"Move fast and break things," say the people who, in an uncanny coincidence, are responsible for breaking the entire planet at a terrifying speed.

It's not that they expect to be rich some day. It's about being invested in a social hierarchy where shit flows downhill. Some people's only joy is watching thier toilet flush into someone else's oatmeal. Sure there's shit in their oatmeal, too, but that's inevitable. It's just a zero sum game.

The idea that we can have oatmeal without shit in it is unrealistic and unfair, and they would rather eat shit than do without being able to shit on others. They think woke lefties want to change who sits where in the hierarchy because they cannot conceive of a society of equals.

My last game played was Baldur's Gate 3. Unfortunately, it was an evil playthrough, so we're talking numerous crimes against humanity. For those who know, I have the Infernal Robe and am on target to recruit Minthara when I get to Act 2.

I feel like people should be more broadly aware of furries, because they are by and large an excellent example of living your weird joy without harming anyone; and we need more of those.

Every aspect of life as a gay man is unimaginably better than it was when I was born in the mid 80s. We beat the plague that was killing us by the hundreds of thousands and then won broad social and civic equality.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Depending on the kind of tree, it can take centuries to grow them back. Google should have to pay enough to cover maintaining the land, including forestry and rangers, for long enough to grow it all back. In the same spot - you don't get to build there now.

"I have been challenged to a duel," she said. "For kissing a woman." "Did she consent?" the swordmaster said. "Yes, but men courting her did not." "Ah. How many?" "Are these men good?" She gave three names. "Far below your level." "Excellent!" She rose. "There are more women I want to kiss."

Common thread: conservatives valuing identity (parent-child here) over actions (why does it matter that the parent was abusive? It's FAMILY!)

Every article has the same premise: Young people are characterizing their normal, happy childhoods as abusive and going "no contact" with their parents over minor disagreements. Every article also, late in the text, blithely acknowledges that this premise is false. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/14/h...

Eating the rich is only revolutionary if we also remember to feed each other.

This is, at present, true. The reason there's so much pressure to shove AI into *everything* is that a lot of rich people *want* this to be true, and have pinned their futures on making it so before too many people figure it out.

But AI has *nothing to do* with digital sovereignty. It is *not* load-bearing. All it takes to understand this is a little thought-experiment. Imagine that we removed all the chatbots from Canada, or the UK, or the EU, or the USA. What would fall down? Nothing important.

Now let me let you in on a little secret: This is why the best plan is to let people figure out what facilities they belong in, then enforce the rules or laws about appropriate behavior equally.

Absurd outcomes happen when the ideological claim that changing sex is impossible makes contact with the biological reality that every single aspect of sex that could be visible to an observer is in fact changeable.

I posted this when Butch Guice died last year: bsky.app/profile/womz...

Kevin J. Maroney, he/him@womzilla.bsky.social

One of my favorite comics anecdotes: On a HeroesCon panel c. 1985, Guice & Paul Smith commiserated about how easy it was for Chris Claremont to write panel descriptions like "200 spaceships loom above in the darkness and a thousand thousand Dog Soldiers pour out." Guice: "Okay, Chris, *name them*."
