Some more background on the role of the digital advertising industry in ad-based spyware delivery. At the core of our new @citizenlab.ca report is Discover-Tech, a company that was deeply interconnected with the ad industry for years yet operated as a facilitator for spyware vendors like Candiru.

"Software will eat the world" is kind of the a16z credo. When you look at how new tech companies value the size of their market, its clear that what they mean by "software." It isn't a million different companies sharing $36TT, it's one company with a boot on the neck of everyone who needs bits.

If nothing else, two fun facts you might not already know: (1) The Tragedy of The Commons is a specific, essentially wrong paper by a guy who turns out to suck, and (2) exploitative scholarly publishing is basically traceable to one guy, Robert Maxwell, father of Ghislaine.

Curious to see what happens to the military-connected "apolitical but still only watch Fox news" guys who take their national security seriously ,as it slowly dawns on them that Trump has left the US wide open to attack, on multiple fronts AND allied them with the Bad Guys.

East Potomac costs $42 to play and hosts thousands of people each year. A lot of the players are beginners. A lot of them don't have that much money. A lot of them are black. This is the course Donald Trump has decided shouldn't exist, and in the past, he's been fairly explicit about why not

It may make me sound like a partisan lib but I actually think it’s Bad that the President thinks he can use a small army of men with loaded guns to disrupt the legitimate electoral process in California simply because he thinks it’ll help him and his party politically this close to an election…

Prediction (and profanity warning): In the not-too-distant future people will stop saying "well that's fucked up" and start saying "well that's trumped up." Maybe not high odds on that prediction, but we could make it happen. It just takes an act of will.

Well sure we gave everyone the raw materials to create semantic bombs that can F up everything from the code that runs websites to your mom's trust in the voice on the line claiming to be her granddaughter. But just think of the benefits! You can have the bomb automatically book tickets for you!

We have to decide whether it's possible to compromise with a radical right-wing pro-slavery minority. So far they've (a) started a civil war and (b) gotten us to the brink of dictatorship, never mind the actual enslavement of people. A system that doesn't manage those people is just a bandaid.

We know who these people are too. It's not like they're wearing hoods anymore. And even when they were wearing hoods, everyone knew who they were. So whether we pack the court or tax the billionaires, we have to acknowledge that those people will do anything to get power.

Otherwise there is a very good chance that in 100 years, the Democratic Party will be overrun by a conspiracy of neo-Nazis and centitrillionaires determined to install the latest arsonist clown, to reverse the VRA and Roe, dis-integrate the Military, institute tarrifs and make America White again.

Americans didn't invent rapacious rent-seeking Capitalism, i.e. "the Aristocracy." But in the US there's a particularly virulent cohesive minority of White people, who merge a toe-sucking love of monarchy with an racist form of chattel slavery even the other enslaving cultures say goes too far.

That is the original sin of America. Those people started a civil war. They forced a premature end to Reconstruction and then imposed Jim Crow. They started a GOP takeover in the 60s and cheered Reagan's trip to Philadelphia, MS to announce his candidacy on a "state's rights" platform.
