If you’re up to help with a documentary about Antarctica, here’s one from a filmmaker and science communicator with a superb track record. And she’ll send you - or someone you nominate - a postcard from McMurdo Station. (Or a cute 3D-printed tardigrade.)

Took in a parcel for a neighbour recently. I dropped it round later and after I’d handed it over I got my phone out and said “I just need a picture…” Oh how 50% of us laughed!

This 19th c lady’s multitool was found in the pocket(!) of an antique (1872) garment donated to the historic clothing archive at my employer. It features a button hook for fitted gloves and a tiny corkscrew. The corkscrew is too small for wine & was probably intended to open apothecary bottles.

Oh my. The tags they are putting on Monarch butterflies are also being put on bats ... are they jusy going through my book (Up - a scientist's guide to the magic above us) and saying "what's next?" (in which case Starlings and fireflies) ...

This Yuma myotis bat (Myotis yumanensis) has been fitted by scientists with a 2.4 GHz 'BlūBat' transmitter made by 'Cellular Tracking Technologies' so they can monitor its movements. It attaches with a tiny bat-harness. Cyber-bat (now with WiFi™)! (📷: Aaron Ambos, Southern Nevada Water Authority)

The OP is about the sexism we face. Women cope with persistent daily sexism in various ways, sometimes by saying sorry for things they do not need to apologize for, because it can lower the probability that men lash out in anger. Seems wrong to hold this against women, rather than the men.

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

A sweater I bought was picking up static electricity, so I returned it to the store. They gave me another one free of charge.

No YOU lost your mind spending six months hand drawing 81 Jokes For The ZX81 because the title popped into your head one day and you thought the title so absurdly irresistible as a personal challenge that you pivoted your entire life to making a niche as fuck book. spelk.press/gb/products/...

How do migratory butterflies find their way? In our new paper in @royalsocietypublishing.org Journal of the Royal Society Interface, we show that European red admirals use solar cues for orientation, with no clear evidence of a magnetic compass, in contrast to monarch butterflies. 🦋 Read more:

Don't forget to look up! I must remember to look up more at Tube stations because there are so many lovely architectural details to admire, like the up lighters, beautiful ceiling structures and windows at Northfields London Underground station.

I was just checking the spam filter for real emails (had one) and I got a stray one for someone else's book, asking in usual style "What inspired you to connect a museum budget dispute with a falconry investigation involving birds equipped with miniature cameras?" OK BUT I WANT TO READ IT NOW
