the last time a team scored exactly one run in the ninth inning to avoid getting shut out by double digits in a world series game? game 6, 1982. the brewers, with a chance to win the series, scored on a wild pitch by john super, who finished off the 13-1 complete game

i think AI has allowed all these execs to finally admit something they've always struggled with: total money-induced incompetence.

Giant skeletons should play football outdoors

Denny Carter@dennycarter.bsky.social

there are too many big skeletons in yards during halloween season now. it's too much. everywhere i look another fifteen foot skeleton. we have to stop the sale of giant skeletons until we figure out what the hell is going on.

i do unironically think people that are cosmopolitan need sorta paradoxically be more chauvinist about it tbh. places and people that are cosmopolitan in outlook are better than places that are provincially minded. the kind of performative handwringing about not being 'authentic' is bad and weak.

love it when anarchists say this because most "local community" councils irl in places like new england or small rural towns are typically deeply *right wing* and hate immigrants and queer people despite representing a "broad swathe" of the entire population. leftism is supposed to be COSMOPOLITAN.

Hell yeah lil buddy

Yesterday, NASA broke a record. The longest distance travelled by a vehicle on the surface of a world other than Earth. The Perseverance rover has now driven 45.22 km, beating the previous record of 45.16 km by the Opportunity rover. Perseverance did the distance in 5.5 years to Oppy's 15.

New Episode! The first practical #automobiles were invented in 1886 and, for the next 20 years, they slowly spread. Then, with new mass-production techniques, they spread like wildfire. It would prove to be one of the most consequential #inventions in all of #history #podcasts

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

Here to tell you that the chemistry and tension in this scene still hits for 2026 teenagers, as evidenced by the very vocal reactions of my students today

As a social relationship, of course! It's changing society right now! But it's changing society because our ruling class and an aligned group of administrators and managers are using it to change society. Not because of the underlying claims about how it works and its capabilities.

@duckworth.senate.gov If you don't think your job is to hold a historically unlawful and unpopular executive accountable, then you should resign so someone can do the job we elected you to do. Christ. Loser. My only regret about this is I don't get to say it to your face. Change your mind or quit.

i consider myself a pragmatic voter who often feels pressured into pulling the lever for candidates who may not fully align with how far left my ideals are and the only pragmatic way forward in the voting booth is zero concessions on trans rights. full stop.

Not really sure where a bunch of liberals got the idea that they can’t win without throwing trans people in the garbage, but they’re stupid and cruel and wrong. If you want a human sacrifice so damned bad put gavin newsom in the wicker man

Y'all don't understand. People fucking suck in my state. Which is why you have to suck too to get them to vote for you. They are too fucking stupid to ever want anything better. And they'll kill you for even trying. This is how it will always be.

i'm skeptical about the idea that throwing trans people under the bus would ever be the difference-maker for dems, but i can accept that people honestly believe it, just as they honestly believe it about women's rights. but then the question becomes, ok, under what circumstances is this "necessary"?

No one there is smart enough for this to be the actual reason. They're arguing over who is taking the blame for Trump's last public diaper dump or whether their shoes fit

This, the article in Wired yesterday about the burnerverse, it's all the same thing, the same low rent grotesques hooting and clapping because they know shame is a thing that happen to other people, never them. It's just what culture looks like now.

It's all just this

There’s such an easy answer to this “gotcha” question and it’s “Sports are inherently unsafe and unfair and it’s ridiculous to single out trans athletes when we allow 150 pound linebackers to go up against 260 pound linemen in freshman football on a daily basis. Let kids play with their friends.”

I think we're at the point where we can incredibly comfortably say that your attitude towards Reform, Restore, MAGA, the AfD etc is how you'd have responded to fascism in the 1930s
