Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

It seems impossible for our political system to hold the politicians tied to the actual invasion of our Capitol to account, but any random Muslim candidate is reflexively labeled a terrorist.

With this monopolized media empire comes not just size but unprecedented power. The power to throw workers under the bus. The power to price-gouge because consumers have few alternatives. The power to decide which stories get told, but more importantly, which stories DON'T get told.

Trump says he's also looking at banning the Washington Post, calling it a "crummy paper" and "disgusting." Anyway, good job, Jeff Bezos! It obviously was worth losing all those scubsribers and turning your opinion section into MAGA-lite, only for the president to continue to call you "fake news."

Just getting round to finishing Silo season 3 (kids make it hard to watch heavy dramas with any regularity). I am not sure there is a better show out there. So damn good! If you haven’t watched it, grab the free AppleTV preview and binge that shit!

This “game” on the White House website, a version of Snake where you play as a white man in a suit and you run around picking up identifiably black, Asian, and Latino men and putting them in orange jumpsuits, might be the most openly white supremacist thing I’ve ever seen the US government produce

Personally, I don't believe the President has the power to change the catapults or the command center on aircraft carriers. There's a whole structure of statutes, regulations, rules, and procedures by which this was done. His duty is to "take care" the laws be executed, he can't just say "nuh uh."

Kai Ryssdal@kairyssdal.bsky.social

This is, bar none, the stupidest fuckung thing I’ve ever heard. And the idea that there’s nobody in the chain of command - civilian or military - with enough courage to say so is a disgrace.

These gloves don't cause neuromuscular incapacitation the way that a taser does. In fact, they only work when applied directly to bare skin. These aren't made for apprehending anyone. These have one and only one use: causing extreme pain to already-restrained captives. In plain language: torture.

Carl T. Bergstrom@carlbergstrom.com

Zero surprise that these are explicitly designed to cause pain without leaving a mark, not to incapacitate. Yes, we're spending $20M to buy ICE agents torture devices.

If ticket prices actually matched inflation, Disney would be $64 today instead of $119. An average concert ticket would be $55 instead of $135. Funny how that works. Almost like monopolies and corporate greed are just making up prices to hoard more of our hard earned money.
