Well knock me over with a feather: Black Press has published an article in favour of proportional representation. It admits that the election results do not reflect the popular vote. That we have to keep going over this is like Groundhog Day albernivalleynews.com/2026/10/26/b... #bcpoli

A 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Omar Yaghi is the son of Palestinian refugees who grew up in Jordan. He just left the US to move to China after raising concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment, like the kind shown here. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/china-than...

People, I beg you: this is ahistorical, bigoted and insane. RFK needs to swallow his tongue.

Maybe this makes me a bad journalist but I’m coming around to the idea that we should just tell everyone the results once everything is counted the next day

James McLeod@jamespmcleod.ca

Quick reminder: As of right now, the result of the election is locked in. Politicians don't "pull ahead" or "catch up." It's just the arbitrary way that the ballots are counted and reported.

NEW: BC Conservatives brought in a priest to exorcise bad spirits before election night at Rocky Mountaineer Station. Same venue where Kerry-Lynne Findlay was crowned leader months ago, right before her disastrous run. Divine intervention clearly worked. #bcpoli #cdnpoli

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

One more BC thread. The NDP are going to spend a lot of time figuring out what went wrong. I think Eby never found his stride as premier, and the path to leadership was where things started to go wrong. Eby wasn't used to being the bad guy, but the disqualification of Appadurai did not go over well.

In British Columbia there is the NDP and the anti-NDP. The latter change their name every few decades. These guys haven't been out of power a decade.

Subscribed. I'll give this a go. It looks interesting.

If you're ever in the Lexington, VA area, there's a bookstore you need to check out. We stopped in there yesterday and walked out with two Gerald Kersh 1st ed. hardcovers at bargain prices, but the place was packed full of the sort of literary detritus that you appreciate.

I've seen several news headlines today crowing that BC elected it's 'First Conservative Government in 100 Years.' Oh, bullshit. Christie Clark, Gordon Campbell, Rita Johnson, Bill Vander Zalm, Bill Bennett, WAC Bennett et al (Socreds, Libs) were just Cons with fake ID. #bcpoli #elxn2026

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

I transitioned under a conservative government. I fought to have gender identity and gender expression added to the human rights code. I worked to end the Christy Clark era.

One big consolation today is #Brazil defeated the fascist. It looked like Bolsonaro Jr. had beaten Lula, via right-wing mayors interrupting transit to the polls, but youthquake/working class actions turned it around and Lula has won! We needed this today. My Latin America housing chat is erupting

🧵Yesterday, British Columbia elected a Conservative majority government that ran on a platform of tax cuts and accelerating the pillaging of nature, or what the party calls “natural resources exploitation.” They also ran on attacking Indigenous sovereignty and trans rights.

Already a million great elxn takes. I'm remembering this post I made 2 yrs ago (about the Fed NDP, but Prov quickly did the same). I could be wrong 🤷‍♂️ But the NDP capitulating on so many progressive issues seems like it gained them ~0 conservative votes, while losing them thousands of supporters.
