What Pablo Torre did was ridiculously impressive. Uncovered a conspiracy between rich guys, withstood a propaganda campaign by one of the richest guys in the world with a pretty good reputation, didn't buckle or panic, and just kept reporting. That's some Pulitzerin' right there.

Dolly Parton dying hits so hard. She felt like one of those figures who always was and always will be. She felt like America when it was trying to be the place it promised to be. As beloved as her music is, it’s even better than people give it credit for. There won’t be another one like her.

YIMBYs, a new moment of triumph is upon us! Atherton, the Silicon Valley enclave that prohibits all but single-family homes, one of the most exclusionary towns in the country, has just received its first multifamily housing project (ever!) under @scottwiener.bsky.social’s SB79!

A class at my kids’ school put up little statements about the good they want to do in the world and I was over the moon about this one - then I learned they meant to say “teach people in jail” which is also good!

I forget where I heard, but these schools are just hedge funds for the wealthy to launder privilege for their kids

It’s more important that the “evil” side that I don’t like definitely suffers a lot…even if it means that I will probably suffer as well.

All this was a choice. I can’t get over how all of this was a choice. A plurality of American voters saw corruption, bigotry, pandemic, economic crisis, coup attempt, and criminal conviction, then opted for more.

All signs continue to point to an exceptional, long-duration, and record-breaking to (in some cases) record-shattering March heatwave initially centered across U.S. Southwest but expanding to much broader region next week. This is effectively a full-on summer heatwave in March.

we appear to have four competing fascist movements jockeying for control: blood & soil nazism under miller and hegseth, darwinian ecofascism from rfk, technofascism under vance and musk, and one Big Wet Hitler who understands the true animating core of the american volk is a deep love for shopping

If you are a person who works in social media, and your job requires you to manage an account on Twitter/X, please ask your boss, in writing, to verify that you are required as a responsibility of your position to be on a platform that knowingly creates and monetizes child sexual abuse material …

I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it. I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.” 1/

my wife says that I am allowed to watch the niners game in the living room with the rest of the family as long as I don’t “bring big ICE energy” and honestly that is very fair and I am grateful for the opportunity.

NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected. And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.* Tax the rich. Greg Ryan in @bloomberg.com:

George Springer is not in the Blue Jays' starting lineup. Evidently his side didn't allow him to ramp up his swinging as much as he needed to. Huge development for Game 4 as Dodgers don't have to face the player who ranked 3rd in MLB in OPS.

Seven years ago today, the Saudi Crown Prince directed the murder of VA resident and journalist Jamal Khashoggi. As we honor Jamal's memory, we are reminded that we must protect reporters around the world as they uncover the truth, inform the public, and promote accountability.

He’s a pretty good college QB . That’s it. Absolute ceiling in the NFL is Jake Browning (who spent years on practice squad before making NFL roster). Some guys just don’t get better

Drew Allar with a game-losing interception in his last two big games. Wow.

I know it's frustrating when lawyers point out when something the administration is doing is not legal. But responding with "the law doesn't matter anymore" is really unhelpful and defeatist. Clarifying the law is important because it reminds us not to comply in advance and to resist and take action

There’s a great Planet Money episode about how pay toilets were made illegal in the US and that led to public toilets mostly disappearing or being in bad shape (Not just a Seattle issue!)

Public bathrooms in Seattle are like that beautiful, undiscovered hike you find but don’t tell anyone else about.

Just absolutely embarrassing that this made it to market. So many people need to approve an ad before it gets national airtime. Just wild that they could screw up a detail like this and have nobody either know or care.

You know Derrick Henry is an all-timer bc even the nerds have abandoned the usual carries/age arguments when it comes to him. Like everyone just acknowledges he isn't a real person.
