as for the upshot of the decision, the republican court has put the citizen children of non-citizens in a position similar to that of free blacks during the antebellum period. their right to enjoy the privileges and immunities of american citizenship will vary according to state borders

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence. They are in charge.

the fact that people were told “today you are going to an elementary school to lie to teachers and kidnap kids” and didn’t immediately tell their bosses to go fuck themselves is all you need to know about why ICE should be dismantled

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.” They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

The business community wanted Trump because no one told them that he's a senile old man surrounded by nazis. The media instead sold a fake version of Trump that was a genius businessman. The reality has been somewhat startling to them!

There are pages and pages of this stuff. Hard to overstate how badly the White House is torching potential for economic activity rn. www.dallasfed.org/research/sur...

I’m really not into the “FAFO” discourse when it comes to Trump voters. Am I angry and sad that we are where we are? Yes. But unless there is a correction, and *fast* we are *all* going down with the ship. Energy should be going to helping people survive what’s coming.

maybe there was actually a pretty good reason for the 14th amendment to have banned insurrectionists who tried to overthrow the government from serving in government and the decision to just decide it was a dead letter and ignore it was a horrible mistake?

I guess I'm too woke because I find the proliferation of this really off-putting and gross. The fact that it's now reached the "enlightened centrists" class is depressing.

low-key one of the most insidious dumb guy beliefs of the last few decades to gain widespread purchase has been this notion that demonstrating pro-social behavior in the hope that others would notice and mirror it, one of the fucking building blocks of any kind of society, is somehow ‘fake’.

One positive effect of watching a lot of basketball is that you get used to phrases like The Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis. It's not good to read stuff like that or know what it means but I sense it will help somewhat when something with a similar vibe and feel replaces Social Security.

My colleague, @democracyprof.bsky.social, wrote this back in 2016, about how states could resist an unconstitutional Trump admin. The key line is this: that the states have a constitutional obligation to defend the constitution, INDEPENDENT OF WHAT SCOTUS SAYS.

I feel like we need a LOT of legal historians, political scientists, and political theory types to immediately start churning out piles of papers, aimed at the politician class, on how state governments can resist (and perhaps in the past have resisted) unhinged federal courts.
