For the 1st time in US history SCOTUS has more rulings on its shadow docket -- unsigned and with no opinions -- than it has cases where it has heard oral arguments and issued signed rulings. IOW they are hiding their deliberations while stealing our democracy. www.propublica.org/article/supr...

propublica.orgA Troubling Milestone: Most Supreme Court Rulings Are Secretive Votes With Little JustificationProPublica conducted a new analysis that shows the court is deciding more consequential rulings than ever before in largely unsigned orders with little to no explanation.

Let me tell you about corporate philanthropy: I once heard a program officer for a large food corp foundation explain that the staff identified two problems in America: childhood hunger and childhood obesity. They proposed funding orgs committed to either problem. The corp came back and said, no. 1/

We make our profits off snacks and cake mixes and canned foods. We are not funding anti-obesity campaigns. And so, in the end, all the local nonprofits gosling funding to fight hunger and no one had programs to tackle childhood obesity. And that, dear friend, is why taxes are superior to charity.

Just to be clear... Prop 40 is a ONE-TIME retroactive tax. It applies ONLY to billionaires and would tax just 5% of their wealth — which grew 30% in 2025. California's billionaires would still be worth $2T+ AFTER the tax. The revenue will fund healthcare for millions of Californians. Vote YES.

Thiiiiiis. I have said this again and again: if colleges wanted to be effective in lowering costs, they would be the #1 advocate for affordable housing in whatever city, town, or neighborhood they live in. Stop being landlords. You don't have $ to maintain all of that infrastructure.

“This, like so many laments about what things cost in America, is a housing story. Public schools that provide a residential undergraduate education are also selling undergraduates an education in what it means to afford a residence.”

This is really strong reporting. And you see how people can both embrace the advantages of power (1.5x pay, determining how others live) and hide from the reality, pointing community members' kindness as a response to the quality of his character rather than as a harm reduction strategy.

If Democrats actually win big because people want a check on Trump corruption I expect every move to do so will be covered in the corporate media as being risky to their 2028 position.

Been interesting to see hard-hitting pieces in NYT and WaPo this week with clear, accurate headlines, appearing right before an election predicted to favor Dems. It's just hedging the bet. If Dems lose or just win a weak majority in the House, their ability to name things clearly will disappear.
