I just discovered that Libby marked a book as ambiguously AI, as the publisher has not claimed it was free from AI content. As the book was published in 2019, I’m willing to accept it as human-authored. I am even more confident of the non-AI nature of ebooks from C20 or before

This supercut is likely to make Trump VERY upset. The difference between Trump and Obama is on full display, and the contrast is absolutely devastating. Watch until the end...

If he really wants to show he’s “all man,” he ought to have this conversation about his pants rather than just his coat

Trump: I said 'do I need an overcoat.' I said I'd rather not wear one. I gotta show I'm all man. We're all men. We're all women. We're whatever the hell we are

Somehow I hadn’t thought of AI-generated LIBRARY books. (Other than maybe plagiarists claiming they wrote something, while covertly using AI.) But this filter is for AI publishing that lacks the grace to be ashamed

“I own I am shocked by the purchase of slaves, And fear those who buy them and sell them are knaves; What I hear of their hardships, their tortures, their groans Is almost enough to draw pity from stones. I pity them greatly, but I must be mum, For how could we do without sugar and rum?” (W. Cowper)

Time that with its strange excuse Pardoned Kipling and his views And will pardon Paul Claudel Pardon him for writing well. The Auden poem is the only reason I’ve even heard of Claudel. In contrast to Dostoyevsky, Mishima, Tolkien, or Wolfe

Just saw an MBTA repair truck with full aggressive strobes going while it was parked in an apparently-legal spot. (Harvard and Comm Ave.) I just increased the dose on my migraine preventative, but I didn’t intend to test it this hard right away.

This is obviously designed for abuse. It only works on bare skin. When a cop grabs for somebody who is resisting or struggling, they usually touch clothing. Most of the year, those gloves won’t do anything at all unless the cop is trying to hurt someone who is already holding more-or-less still.

Truthout@truthout.org

ICE plans to spend up to $20 million on electric-shock gloves that the manufacturer says can force compliance within seconds when applied directly to skin.

Betcha they mean “professor talking to history or political science class” as well as “dean talking to newspaper.” All levels of leadership could even stretch to include “union leaders speaking with budget director”

I wouldn’t take a carpenter seriously who used a laptop to hammer in nails. I wouldn’t take a dentist seriously who used firecrackers instead of drills. Seriously, why would I trust a editor/writer who uses a chatbot as a search engine?

I guess all those people who said they were leaving New York if Mamdani was elected were responsible for a lot of crime on the city.

Wasn’t the Saint Louis ship of refugees forced away from America in early June of 1939? I expect Hegseth to praise the Coast Guard for their brave work in helping send hundreds of civilians to be murdered by Nazis

Dan Lamothe@danlamothe.bsky.social

Hegseth at Normandy: "Sadly, today, different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies. Beaches in Spain and Italy and Greece and Bulgaria. Boats and men arrive. When will European capitals do something about that invasion? Or is it too late? I pray not, and I believe not."
