Happy to say that I helped ruin Brad Bradfords dreams of being mayor of Toronto today

I can usually wind up on the right side of history by finding the white supremacists and then choosing the other side hard. For some reason they don’t seem to like trans people or school lunches either.

bossk baby@bonnnt.bsky.social

found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this

Seconding the 'please, if you have room and inclination, adopt' because what if you DO adopt some little creecher and you're like "I have never had a cat before, he is very cute but what do I do with him" and he's like "YOU DO THIS" for a solid month (Photo from July 2022)

This, but Egyptologists and pyramid conspiracies

This is so hilarious, because the left could not possibly keep this a secret without arguing spilling over into public, a thing they would do because this supposed plan is incredibly stupid.

CBC also broadcast live in studio on election night 1952. These hand-painted leaderboards are being live updated by a female CBC staffer. On the left, she’s moving a tiny, Mayor Lamport and Nathan Phillips, up the steps of a painted City Hall in accordance to their votes.

if you think Toronto is unsafe than carry Naloxone with you, because the people who are using on the streets are at higher risk than you. it doesn't help anyone to deny the reality that it's happening, it's how we talk about it and what we do that matters.

Why did I write a Minecraft book? Because last year a shy 11-yr-old boy brought two huge lobsters to my door I asked how much His dad said: No he wants to give them to you. He hated reading before your Minecraft book & now he loves it. He wants to pay you back THAT’S WHY I WROTE A MINECRAFT BOOK

Ross Thompson@wintermute115.bsky.social

And @catvalente.bsky.social, a generational talent IMO, wrote a Minecraft novel.

Movies Silently@moviessilently.bsky.social

(I have mentioned this before but Iron Eagle is my favorite So Bad It’s Good 80s movie. It is about a pilot shot down and taken hostage by Hercule Poirot and his teen son, armed with his trusty Walkman and mixtape, steals a fighter plane to rescue him.)

If there were more books on journaling like this and fewer featuring immaculate spreads in full calligraphy, we would see a revolution.

Alright what's the over/under that they're gonna let me use this illustration as the example of various ways you can nature journal in my book? I don't see anything wrong with this, why wouldn't they let me use this?

It’s too scholarly to be a true hatchet job, but this is still a joy to read. Goodwin is “a drop-out from academic life who prefer[s] the public exercise of his own unedited anxieties to empirical rigour”. More of a scalpel job. Really good stuff

Yes, of course McDonald’s posting about National Coming Out Day is “performative.” Nobody thinks Ronald McDonald threw the first brick at Stonewall. Nonetheless, the biggest and most influential institutions in American life performing affirmation of LGBT social and civil equality is a good thing.

Anyway I'm not going to DIVE into today's Extremely Silly Hot Take By A Stupid Person, but like... where are people getting these ideas? Do they have any data ACTUALLY showing that (say) men prefer to read men? Women prefer to read women? Crabs prefer to read crabs???? Where are the studies?

people keep making movies where the premise is "it's kind of like a man but it looks like a monstrous freak but it's nice and sexy and doesn't abuse the woman so it's basically the most romantic thing ever" and men keep not getting it.

Bradford wants to hire a THOUSAND new cops?! No. Hell, no. On top of gutting revenue with his cuts, he wants to explode the already massive police budget? Toronto, we HAVE to re-elect Olivia Chow. (Also, citing Malcom Gladwell in a serious policy discussion is instantly disqualifying.) #TOPoli

Matt Elliott@graphicmatt.com

In a question about public safety, Chow says she's supporting more funding for youth violence prevention and neighbourhood officers/safety plans. Citing Malcolm Gladwell (?), Bradford says, "You do need more frontline officers if you want to deter crime." He pledges to hire 1,000 of them.

If you have ever read a book to a baby, you will realize it's not a linear experience. The baby wants to turn pages backward, wants to ask questions (if they're old enough), wants to examine the pages and get really excited if they can say "bear!" even if the word "bear!" is not on the page.

Canada is refusing to issue ISBNs to books primarily generated with AI. This illustrates both the urgency of the problem of the growing flood of slop books, and also the toothlessness of addressing it on the honor system without there also being consequences for lying
