People have argued over this for centuries but pretty sure I can crack this today on bluesky via sarcasm.

not to pile on £9000 car guy but I wonder if he's more representative than he might seem. "graduate uni, move back in with parents, get first Proper Job and spend 50% of your pay on a Nice Car" seems like it could be a fairly common situation. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

i don't think it's that crazy it's a lot harder to use public money to build a complicated interconnected grid of rail infrastructure than it is to use private money to build a bunch of big warehouses. like i don't think it's great only one of those is possible but what i do not think it is is crazy

Being anti-democracy is such loser shit. Pseuds love to act smart but we've got the juice. 100s of years of being the least worst system over the long run. Pass the marshmallow test, support messy reality.
I was having conversations with journalists just a few months ago about whether democracy was doomed. Look at this year: Orban defeated. Vukic defeated. Bolsonaro Jr defeated. Trump heading to likely defeat in midterms. That’s the beauty of democracy. Voters can respond. Don’t count it out yet.

This is the same short form video addled conspiracism that has people convinced anything only ever gets planning permission because of a "corrupt" councillor or whatever. You can see people's chains of thought visibly shortening.
Currently wondering what message the UK govt thought it was sending by dressing up the Minister for Net Zero in a literal Shell logo.

The fact that Western publics are unreasonably mad at objective trade-offs and tolerable living standards (and have to make up new words to describe a nebulous “crisis”) is bad because it generates real crises (avoiding trade-offs causes debt crises, grievance politics cause democratic crises).
“It’s real, even if it doesn’t show up in charts.” How do you know it’s real, then? How do you know that you’re not simply insisting on a reality you prefer, in the face of evidence? How would you support your view? Is it falsifiable, at all? How are you any different from MAGA in this respect?
