There have always been humans who thought: 1) The world will end soon 2) It will happen in a cool, exciting way 3) It’ll happen to me personally 4) I’ll be a martyred prophet, or a warlord, or otherwise special 5) People who don’t see this are lesser “Sexy apocalypse” is a great phrase for that

Never thought I would live to see the day when 18 service members lost their lives and it’s being dismissed as small potatoes.

Shipwreck@shipwreck75.bsky.social

President Donald Trump said Friday that he views the confrontation with Iran as a “military conflict” rather than a full-scale war, calling it “small potatoes for us” and describing US strikes as intermittent.

I hope it’s clear to everyone who cares about the survival of our democracy that we need massive turnout and landslide margins to counteract the lies and cries of fraud that are coming after the midterm vote.

As Ed Elson & @justinwolfers.bsky.social point out on @profgalloway.com's Prof G Markets... ...disordered psychological thinking underpins the failures of both the tariffs & the Iran war. As I wrote on page 128 of @bandylee.bsky.social's, "The MUCH more dangerous case of Donald Trump"... 1/

People have debated the nature of the vibecession and why economic mood is more pessimistic than the traditional indicators would suggest. I think an underrated part of the story is being gaslight constantly about how our major recent innovations, crypto, sports betting, and AI are advancements. 1/x

Trump is saying the 2016 election (when Obama was president) was fair, and the 2024 election (when Biden was president) was also fair, but the 2020 election (when some guy named Trump was president) was a piece of crap.

🚨 We analyzed the Supreme Court’s decisions over the past 20 years and found that for the first time, the court issued more consequential rulings on its “shadow docket” (unsigned orders often decided without arguments) than the traditional merits docket. www.propublica.org/article/supr...

Pentagon delayed publicly announcing U.S. strikes on Iran until after financial markets had closed. The timing was intended to reduce the immediate impact on financial markets, including oil prices.

I would like a side-by-side account of the cost of: the Iran war, the reflecting pool, the ballroom, the Qatari plane, the WWE fight; DOJ settlement payoffs (like to Ashli Babbitt) and any other vanity projects I'm missing; compared with all of the "waste and fraud" supposedly saved by the DOGE cuts

It helps to think of every Trump appointee at DOJ as a contestant in a reality show. They have to keep providing Daddy dopamine hits or they'll get fired.

You can see this new indictment of James Comey as an outrage, which it is, or rather a patently illegitimate abuse of power. I see it as more evidence of his crashing out & collapse, more direct & absurd lashing out while he's unable or lacks the mental wherewithal to right his own political ship.

A week ago, Trump lifted sanctions on Russian oil, rewarding Russia for helping Iran locate & kill American service members, and tonight Trump lifts sanctions on Iranian oil, rewarding Iran for actually killing American service members. Once again, Trump is a traitor to America.

The Republican position now appears to be that you have a constitutional right to openly carry a gun in public, unless you do so while expressing a view that the government dislikes, in which case the secret police can shoot you to death on the spot.

The key question in US civil society isn’t “Do you like Trump?” It’s “Do you acknowledge that Trump is a psychologically unstable criminal and bully whose existence creates a crisis?” Problem is, while many of our institutions answer “no” to the first, they virtually all answer “no” to the second

People keep wondering why they're going after Venezuela. It's because they want to do regime change and control its oil, then use a big tract of land there to keep a tax free "network state" that looks like Dubai but operates like Rhodesia. They are saying this out loud! Believe them!
