The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

Meanwhile, pro-democracy, pro-Europe protesters in Tbilisi, Georgia, are tonight nearing their 700th consecutive day of protest against the pro-Russian government. They haven't missed a single day in the last 23 months.

@gabrielzucman.bsky.social: So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but one man paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?

We finally found the paid protesters Trump keeps talking about

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

Elon absolutely sucks but this is just a preview of the kind of control AI companies are playing for with their push into government, education, and every other industry

Selling pardons is something that Protestants famously approve of.

My brain cannot process this level of corruption. She was being paid $50 million to engineer a pardon from Trump *while working at the Justice Department* as a "Special Government Employee." And it worked. He got the pardon, and she got the money. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/20/u...

In short, I feel like the damages listed in the piece have already been done, and failing to reckon with the damage that has been done is just not a useful way to handle how to manage the Court.

I hated insisting back in 2023 that people should understand the weird cult logics of Silicon Valley, such as longtermism. People were like, Kelly, what is this shit? Why are you talking about it? This moment is why. I suggest revisiting this convo I had with @xriskology.bsky.social back then.

I think that, like every other attempt they’ve made to go after high profile regime enemies through the legal system, this is likely to end poorly for them in court it is also an extremely dangerous escalation and should be treated like the emergency it is by both Dem leadership and the media

They started on illegal immigrants, expanded it to legal immigrants, now are going after naturalized citizens. If you are not one of those groups, you are just somewhere further down the chain, but they will get to eliminating your rights eventually too.

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

I said this in a thread last night and in a thousand threads before it, but you really are doing the work of those who would destroy democracy and the rule of law when you are a doomer. You can be aware of — and vigorously oppose — the lawlessness of this administration without insisting on doom.

Yes, and he's far from the only one to say things like that. For example, LBJ: "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." Was DB the 1st?

W.E.B. DuBois would say that you're on to something. This is similar to how he explained the staying power of a lot of U.S. racism, and why poorer U.S. whites were not doing the rational thing and acting in solidarity with other people of their economic class.

It's kind of crazy that the Natalie Harp news cycle raised some extremely valid questions about the extent of her influence on our octogenarian narcoleptic, none were answered and the press just stopped wondering.

Maybe the reason the economic vibes are so off isn't that things are *worse* than the great recession but because back then we all thought the pain was temporary, whereas the things that are wrong with the economy today have all been getting worse for a long time and show no signs of improving

Happy Stanislav Petrov day! He saved the world from nuclear annihilation on this day in 1983. My freshman year in college would have been so much worse without his courage.🧵

Huh, I guess the whole strategy of cable news outlets not asking the Trump White House hard questions and failing to push back on weak answers in order to preserve their access to the Trump White House wasn't much of a great strategy.

mikespr.bsky.social reposted

Gosh, if only there were some kind of professional organization for White House journalists that existed to advocate for the First Amendment and defend the freedom of the press. They could organize together as a united front against Trump's censorship. That would be something.

25 years ago today, George W. Bush signed the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force into law. Barbara Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against it, warning it would be a blank check for forever wars. History has proven her lonely and courageous vote right.
