Amazing how many Labour MPs do not understand this quite basic point.

Christabel Cooper@christabelcoops.bsky.social

Really worth noting that even in Red Wall constituencies which backed Leave, most *Labour* voters back rejoining the EU. Over 90% of Labour considerers back rejoin - opposition to EU membership is mainly coming from non-Labour voters in these seats. Was on Times Radio yesterday making this point.

This obsession with imperial units is mad. Who under 60 understand them at all? I'm mid-40s and have no idea how many ounces are in a yard. Is it 16? Twelvty? No idea. And with pretty much everything, everywhere sold and traded in metric it simply makes the UK less competitive.

… I’m going for Antonio Conte to come in after Michael Carrick is sacked and Dwight Yorke to replace him on an interim basis after it inevitably goes wrong. Mood lifted, Yorkey gets the job on a permanent basis and the doom cycle starts all over again.

Took in a parcel for a neighbour recently. I dropped it round later and after I’d handed it over I got my phone out and said “I just need a picture…” Oh how 50% of us laughed!

Today I came across a clip from Trump’s 2016 primary debates. The cognitive decline since then is astounding, but the fact that his voice has been a constant background noise in our life for ten years has desensitised us to the extent of his drift.

This won't go anywhere, obviously, but it's still a useful indication of how they'd act if they ever get into Government. Locking up journalists would just be the start

The UK right got Trump, Truss and Brexit totally wrong. Not a little bit. Totally. Such collosal and catastrophic misjudgements should disqualify them from power for a generation, at least. But it won’t.

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.

I think it should be a source of deep embarrassment – and perhaps even shame – that Rishi Sunak has spoken out on this before Andy Burnham has.

I’ve worn a grubby RNLI cap for decades. I sound London, but I was born in Truro and I was a basically feral (Gen X) kid wandering the coast path with a dog until sunset for a lot of my early life. The lifeboats are in the fabric like trawlers and farms and pasties and fish and chips.

Ralph Ferrett reposted

If you think closing an RNLI station is done by people with "legitimate concerns" you really need to give your head a wobble. It's an unforgivable act of thuggery.

I think the worst part of Labour's response to the fascist mobilisation is Andy Burnham's absence. He's the most popular politician in the country, with social media reach and actual powers of persuasion, and he's saying nothing in public. He can actually be of use here but he's choosing not to

Ralph Ferrett reposted

I simply do not understand what's going on in Labour that renders its leaders incapable of finding a TV camera and speaking out against street violence. Even if you assume they agree about immigration, violence is wrong, unpopular AND against the interests of any even vaguely left wing govt.
