This is literally the end of the rule of law. If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.
New: White House attorneys are evaluating whether to issue mass pardons to junior staffers. https://www.washingtonsun.com/whitehouse/white-house-weighing-mass-pardons-for-junior-staff

This should be the cause of soul-searching for every California state politician.
In fact, Texas' solar generation has grown so much that it's surpassed California to become America's largest solar-producing state Texas already had a heavy lead in utility-scale solar, but has now passed California even when you include rooftop

Anthropic may not have intended to write an excellent ad for GLM 5.3, but that's what they did. www.anthropic.com/research/glm... Unlike Mythos, I might actually have a chance at using GLM for defensive research. Anthropic didn't reply to any of my requests for Mythos access for use on OpenSSH.

@governor.ca.gov Thanks for giving us your utter contempt, on this and the Paramount BS. In return I give you mine in the form of supporting my union’s strike authorization and a promise to campaign against you forever more.
@governor.ca.gov AB 1729 passed with a vote of 31-6. Can you please sign it and stop screwing with my livelihood? Also, start bargaining in good faith. Thanks.

Data science teams at DraftKings built models to identify likely losers and target them with promotions, while efforts to build predictive models for problem gambling were shelved. The counterpoint on self regulation is companies can be more incentivized to avoid identifying harm than addressing it

Precisely this—the power attributed to technology makes it incredibly useful for laundering responsibility
The AI industry wants you to say "the AI just did that thing on its own!" Like, United Health's AI that's denying a shitload of claims with a 90% error rate? They wanted you to think it's just the AI.

I wrote this quickly at a bus stop and didn't realize it would go viral, or else I would have worded it better. But the point is that the media is too credulous about AI killing everyone in 10 years (how?) when climate change is killing people now and will only get worse (we know exactly how).
I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

Just did a quick look around and I don't see very many headlines about the President of the US making people pledge allegiance to him personally while telling everyone to commit election fraud and "cheat like hell" to support his party. Seems like it should be a story?
Trump: "Please right your right hand. I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States. That loves us so much he can't even breath. That I will go out with my family, my friends, I'll do it any way - I don't care if I'm registered or not, I'm going to try to cheat like hell..."

Companies have long dodged their obligations to workers by using complicated layers of contracting. The result: lower wages, worse working conditions, and stifled voices. The Delivery Protection Act would address a systemic problem that has been perpetuated by one of the US’s largest employers.
Just had a @bsky.app 2FA code that used a “O” instead of “0”. The world is backwards. Everything I know is wrong!
