First real morning w out the cafeTO/barriers. Streets far more hostile. No buffer. Nothing to slow drivers. Need to recalibrate to harsh winter mode.

One thing about people citing slower car travel times on Bloor West following the bike lane install is, well, that was kind of the point. Drivers were **averaging** nearly 20 km/h over the current speed limit at spots. Road revamp has brought speeds closer to limit. www.toronto.ca/wp-content/u...

Once all the bike lanes are gone, and congestion hasn't improved, we will look back on this as a foolish act of self-sabotage by a government more interested in its own personal vendettas than in making Ontarians' lives better and more affordable.

Why do people get mad at new apartments for being expensive, but are totally fine with the city creating entire mansion-only neighborhoods? If you think an expensive apartment isn't helping you, a poor renter, that can only be more true for a $10 million mansion.

Bikeshare is great for adults but not friendly for young families. Cargo bikes (basketfiet or with a bench on the back) would make the system accessible for riders with children. #TOPoli #Urbanism

We let national immigration policy be thwarted by the median council votes in Toronto and Vancouver and it's nuts to me that's not how this is understood.

The Houthi-aligned Bani Hashish tribes are massing in preparation to “liberate” the remaining Yemeni territory outside Houthi control. It’s a sea of Toyotas with mounted machine guns. I think this is what we should mean when we say Toyotathon from now on.

Perks tries to itemize the negative impacts of building new housing: “You have new population. Do you have enough schools for that, are the sidewalks big enough, are we losing green space?” Many Toronto blocks, especially in his ward, have fewer people than in 1971 and half-empty public schools.

If your servers are compromised by a group of agents, don’t say “we are under attack.” Attack implies intent. Instead say, “computer programs are emitting tokens that, when executed by other programs, are causing network requests that are currently pwning my shit”

Calgary used to utilize “car traps.” that basically trapped cars. They were removed because they “traumatized” drivers. I say “screw that.” Toronto should install similar traps that keep cars out of the tunnel, better to have the car damaged outside instead being damaged in the tunnel.

As mad as I am at my government for starting shit with Canada I have to ask: now you want out? Now you want to distance yourselves? Vietnam or The War on Terror wasn't enough? Y'all act like you're better than us but you're a vassal state and only now that we're hostile you want out.

"We need housing for teachers." "We need housing for artists." "We need housing for firefighters." This command and control shit drives me crazy. Just build enough housing for people.

Most of the good stuff we can get out of the EU is stuff we don't need European permission for (ie adopting their standards, lowering our trade barriers.)

Toronto would build this for over 1.7 billion dollars per kilometer and somehow gaslight themselves into thinking that cost is reasonable because Canada is constrained by land rights, labour unions, safety standards, maternity leave and universal healthcare unlike... France.

German hackers have created an open-source program that allows Bose SoundTouch speakers and soundbars to regain their old functions. Bose removed all cloud support earlier this year. SoundTouch Reborn can be installed over-the-air, say the creators. st-reborn.de

Something else that boils my blood: the driveby attack about how "social science" experts are often biased and impartial. Dr. Saxe is a licensed P.Eng, PhD-holding Engineer. She is the fuckin' E in STEM. Do you think "social science" is just when a woman tells you things you disagree with?

Any cyclist on a street with no bike lane should take up the whole traffic lane (as is there legal right) until anyone with “ford” in their name wakes the hell up. You wanna talk congestion. You have no idea.

The judge's ruling cites "common sense" as the reason that adding more lanes eases congestion IT DOESN'T!! THERE'S AN ENTIRE FIELD OF STUDY AROUND THIS VERY TOPIC!! WE'VE KNOWN ABOUT THIS SINCE, LIKE, THE 1960s!!

What if landlords had to compete for tenants by being good landlords, instead of tenants having to compete for a few vacancies owned by people looking to make a quick buck?
