In my personal life I have moved away from thinking of people as stupid. Instead I just think of people as "incurious," where the Doing of learning has become something they are too tired, scared, or proud to pursue. Curiosity is, I think, the greatest human virtue, the Doing of learning.

to me, Doing is a knife that must be continually honed, however small the grind wheel available to you is, because to me it's not about how sharp the knife actually is it's about the process of honing itself. if you are Doing then you are living. there are always opportunities to Do if you seek them

my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

A reminder that this image depicts someone complaining about the tax burden of rebuilding a recently destroyed school

dame@dame.is

being anti-AI is ableist actually

I didn't realise until this exact post that there was a reason that particular scene spoke to me. Chernabog is who I still want to be. He always struck me as unloved but fundamentally kind, a creator and friend to the dark spaces of the world. Probably not the intent, but it's what I got.

Fantasia was the first movie I ever saw in the theater & I cannot overstate how utterly galvanized tiny me was by this specific vignette. I couldn’t have been more than four years old at the time and other four-year-olds would’ve been terrified of Chernabog I wanted to BE Chernabog

He should be showing all the AI assisted games he is proudly buying and playing if he thinks it doesn't matter

Kim Hu@kim-hu.com

yeh tbh if AI is so great you should be proud of it, you should disclose it everywhere and put a bunch of stickers yourself that you used it for your project showing everyone how cool and cutting edge you are, no? like, it's the future right? you love it right??

Looking for game devs who have been directly inspired by anything BioWare for my next video. I suspect the public likely doesn’t quite realize the extent of their influence on the industry, so I’d really like to highlight that. If you are one such game devs, pls reply to this post!

Must be really rough out there for people actually named "Claude" right now, every time someone says their name everyone in the room's gonna have a barely perceptible flinch

Social anxiety haunted house where it's just a house party that you aren't sure if you're supposed to be there, everyone you make eye contact with asks why you're looking at them, and all the actors are laughing while you're not looking and stop as soon as you turn towards them

because it is relevant to my work, I have tried very hard to educate myself on how AI works, be fair and measured in how I evaluate it, and regularly test new tools to confirm or debunk my priors and tbh AI haters are just nailing it with less work like 99% of the time. keep at it folks

People assume that fighting the computer is what makes programming suck. They're wrong. It's what makes programming rock. You write the correct words in the correct order and, because you did it right, something magical happens and it only happens because you did it that way.

adamatomic@adamatomic.bsky.social

sorry, code is fucking beautiful. its fucking magical i can type words in the thing and fucking TRIANGLES just appear ? oops i typed it wrong and the triangles did something i didn't EXPECT ?? now weird shit is happening ?? this is the best shit of all time. i was born to fight the computer

The other line on this is, why do people think it will stop at pornography, an already famously difficult to define category?

atomly@atomly.com

It's absolutely wild to see how many people are in support of this. I usually think slippery slope is one of the lazier arguments but come on how is this not just obviously a way to get people comfortable with them banning content before expanding the categories to anything they want?

325gb of art and material that artists and animators weren't allowed to use in portfolios to keep themselves fed.

ToonHive@toonhive.bsky.social

⚠️ A massive leak containing model sheets, puppet rigs, storyboards, and other materials from Cartoon Network shows have been spread on the internet. Fans are speculating that the Skydance merger (as Paramount’s content is very notorious of getting leaked) was the cause.

Replying to @veryimportant.lawyer

i do not meaningfully care about this argument but my stance remains: i refuse to generate unpaid content for elon musk the child pornographer, and to model the behavior that lets elon's algorithm show me the optimal unpaid content he wants me to see. it's interesting that you want to do that though

One of the greatest video game stories ever written is about piloting a deeply hungover, divorced, schizophrenic detective through an Estonian DnD group's strange mid-apocalyptic game world and trying to get him to dance with his partner, a closeted petrolhead. AI can never generate a Cuno.

Bugs 🔜 MC Atlanta@bugsmaytrix.bsky.social

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

So in order to keep this game alive it's going to need to bring in $1000 net per day forever. This cost scales up per user.

IGN@ign.com

The developer behind Teach My Little Sister How to Drive, a driving generative AI-powered instruction sim, has been spending $1000 a day to keep the demo running, and now, they've had to take out a bank loan to keep up. https://bit.ly/4rWqe8g

“Strange Scaffold’s distinctive creative lens” yeesh. Barely pretending now, huh. Not all stories are mine to tell but uhh I am highly skeptical about all of this and the uncritical positive framing in all coverage of this studio

I don't know if folks know this, but the thing Bier is describing is a felony.

We could solve so many problems by just imposing a rule "the statements and works produced by a chatbot are, legally, the personal statements and works of everyone with voting shares in the company controlling that chatbot."

Mary Gillis@marygillis.bsky.social

If we had a federal government that wasn't firmly up the ass of Big AI, they'd make it a crime for an AI to put people in mortal danger by sending them into wilderness areas with fictional instructions. If a human kept doing this, they'd probably go to jail, even under existing laws.

it was smart of jacob geller to only post about what he did to his 50k followers on here instead of to his 1.5 million youtube subs or on his patreon. that way fewer people know about it and he limits the financial hit

Christ, Resident Evil is such a fucking good time at the movies. Funny but not insistent on it, knows how to do terror and horror. Bloody, meaty, boney, but it isn't fascinated with gore. The protagonist is radiating little brother energy in the best way.

This is, as far as I can tell, the only use of an em-dash by Reuters in its entire posting history on bsky. Their standard for this would be to either break the headline into two sentences, or use a semicolon, or a normal hyphen. The em-dash is being deliberately deployed here.
