i personally don't believe you have to smile to look stylish. for instance: IG charlie_the_griffon

"Air quality's not THAT bad," he said all summer.... Just washed the outside windows and, hoo boy, we got some filth. Pulling this much dirt from something that appears clear gives me a sense of what fire season does to lungs. Yuck.

I just typed out a comment to a post, re-read it, thought "Oh, right, I'll look like a fucking creep if I post that" and then deleted it, which is a reminder that the reason I came up with "The failure mode of 'clever' is 'asshole'" is because I need the warning as much if not more than other folks

Eisenhower would beat the living shit out of pretty much everyone in the West Wing right now. LBJ would intercept anyone grabbing a chair and finish them off. Kennedy would cheer them on while also banging their wives and/or husbands. Nixon and Reagan would be crying about decorum on their podcast

This is a great example of both the usual reasons crypto sucks (irrevocable automated instant transfers are bad) and ALSO the reasons AI is fundamentally insecure and you should never ever let it within a hundred yards of anything mission-critical or valuable.

A pub for readers. Essentially a library with a bar. And...... No. Fucking. TVs.

Take a break from the discourse and quote this with a business you would want to start if you could afford to lose money on it

this morning, mamdani’s team got in touch with me to float a new tax proposal: if your net worth exceeds $5 million and you dress badly, you’ll be hit with a 10% annual levy for “visual pollution.” i would be in charge of deciding if the outfits are bad.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Evidence that music school was not a waste of time and money: The leaf blower frequency is between B flat and B natural. Also, fuck leaf blowers. Hey, trees ! Hurry up and get naked.

I also had an entirely adequate science education, and recommend rocks in your pockets. Just the average amount will do. Also, if you're being raptured and have size 13 feet and good taste in footwear, leave your address in the comments.

Rapture people! If you're afraid of flying up in the air too fast (maybe you're scared of heights idk) a parachute should also work fine to slow you down going in the opposite direction (up) as long as you're still in the atmosphere source: i was ok at science in school

I'm all for transhumanism but gAI ain't it. Weakening our brains and ceding more control to megacorporations over our culture isn't augmenting us, it's diminishing us. All cyber, no punk.

Talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Game of Thrones all you want, but the greatest US television program ever made is Sesame Street. It's not even close. 50+ years of treating kids across class, ethnicity, religion not as mini-consumers...but as citizens with a stake in this world.

I'm just the billionth person to say it, but we collectively seem to learn so very little, to understand so little of what we see, and forget what little we understand so quickly. Soul sick.
