For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.

An important point to be taken from PRRI's big survey today: Mainline Protestants still don't know what Christian nationalism is. In general, they believe that Christian nationalism is what should be called patriotism - flags in churches, a Boy Scout troop, singing the national anthem, etc.

The US economy is about 12 times larger than the Russian economy and per capita output is six times larger. CA, NY and TX surpass Russian output. It's a minor economic country. But Trump only wants to match the scale of theft and dictatorial, oligarchic rule of Putin, the people be damned.
