My least favourite sentence is 'I've got that bug thats going around'. You mean the bug that your carrying around and potentially permanently disabling or killing people with.

Regular reminder that when you go to things while sick, you are giving those germs to people with autoimmune disorders, you’re passing them to someone’s newborn, to someone’s elderly parents. It’s “just a cold” to you but it can and does severely impact countless people.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

I dont know which Robodebt sequal we're up to at this point.

Penny Allman-Payne@pennyallmanpayne.com

Older people have been saying this for months. Labor's automation of aged care assessments has been a disaster, under-assessing need and priority, denying care and driving up waitlists. It's past time to bin the whole thing and put humans back in charge of decision-making.

We are relieved to see that another Bolsonaro will not take power in Brazil. But only grassroots action can address the deeper issues at play. “If Bolsonaro wins, they kill us—if Lula wins, they let us die.” crimethinc.com/2026/09/29/i...

This is a big fuck you to the worlds elite and I couldnt be happier for the people pf Brazil.

We won not only against Bolsonaro, but against the full force of the USian's Big Techs, Meta, CIA, Trump, the Brazilian right-wing elites, the billionaires' press and more.

Rather than recalculate these, Labor passed new legislation to retrospectively validate debts they had already conceded were illegal. Now people are having to go back decades to find evidence with which to defend themselves. This is beyond indefensible. Spitting in the faces of Robodebt victims.

Every country in the world needs to seriously start treating these companies with contempt and start genuinely exploring and developing digital sovereignty.

Rafa Sales Ross@rafiews.com

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

Broken clocks an all that, but Musk is saying the not so quiet part out loud now. Looking locally at the fragility of 'Ai' data centre firms such as Firmus and now NextDC, we're going to potentially see a bunch of white elephants in form of 'Ai' data centres that are never made operational.

Great to see a mainstream journalist getting away from the shallow reporting on "cost of living crisis", and analyzing how this is about something far more structural: #inequality. #auspol

So the Australian govt has been "the recipients of chaos and rarely the decision makers"?? No. Albanese decided to: - send a surveillance aircraft to Trump's war - maintain the dodgy US alliance when so many are backing away - continue the farce that is #AUKUS - shut down debate on all the above.

i think the real thing that makes someone a leftist is when you start to actually give a shit about movements and issues that don't affect you. anyone can stand up for things that affect them. but it takes actual principles to stand up for groups you're not a part of. most people dont do this.

How much NDIS or Public Housing is $4.3billion? Asking for a friend.

Home Affairs gave a $4.3 BILLION air services contract to a company with no Australian air operators certificate or employees – or the required aircraft – and which was registered to a front company: a real estate agent.

I'll be honest, there is nothing more demoralizing to me than devs saying "I know AI is built on theft, and anti-labour, and harms the environment, but I'm going to use it anyway bc I don't believe individual choices matter". This is how a movement fails. www.molleindustria.org/blog/future-...

I often think about Mundey while riding my bike past my local NextDC 'Ai' data center construction site. What would it take for a modern equivalent from the CFMEU or ETA to push a moratorium on the construction of data centers in so called Australia?

Every company that finds a way to thrive in the attention economy is bad. It's not just that they're ideologically bad—they are ideologically bad—but the fact that virtually nothing is off limits in the endless pursuit of capturing as much attention for the purposes of data consumption as possible.
