Did an experiment today. I asked Gemini AI to comment on the sustainable transport aspects of a planning application. It did a really good job. I can see myself using it as a starting point for the next one I need to comment on.

If this was being done by a climate-denying Tory or Reform government, the condemnation would be resounding. It's beyond dismaying that a Labour Government can approve this decision and an SNP one can cheer it on. Neither is doing what it takes to make a sustainable future possible.

the idea that empathy is dangerous has been permeating right-wing spaces for a while, but it's not an actual element of their ideology as much as it's a defense mechanism against confronting the reality of their cruelty

It seems that Nigel Farage has taken the hint and has decided to spend more time in his constituency of Clacton. So much so that he has bought a new house for himself and his family in the local area:

I was completely soaked coming into the univercity building, a stranger asked me what happened and I explained I was caught in the rain. They gave me this funny look and said "You know what I mean" but I really didn't. Turns out they were trying to ask why I used a wheelchair.

What a load of BS from Tory shadow chancellor on #Today #Radio4. Heathrow T3? Climate change. More nuclear? EDF is already losing hugely to green power in France. More house building? Yes, he says, but not near SE villages. Same old (failed) Conservatives.

RIP Mayer Hillman, a true inspiration to me when I became a transport activist 35 years ago. “Life years lost through cycling are far outweighed by life years gained through better health” was one of his memorable findings. www.transportxtra.com/publications...

My take on the Andy Burnham speech is that my 14yo daughter saw a bit of it on TikTok & then asked to watch the whole thing with me. She told me afterward that the hopefulness of it almost feels miraculous to her because her whole life the people in charge have been purposely making everything worse

The U.S. has withdrawn its last troops from Iraq, 23 years after a Republican president launched a war of choice based on lies that cost trillions of dollars, killed hundreds of thousands of people, and unleashed regional chaos. History doesn't repeat, but it often rhymes.

EDF's CEO, Simoni Rossi, hates renewables because they have permanently priced EDF's Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C nuclear power stations out of the electricity market. HPC, in particular, will never make money. Same thing happening in EDF"s home market in France 👇

Dan Grey@dangrey.bsky.social

France has ended up in a strange position after using some €250bn of tax-payer money to build a fleet of nuclear power stations. Wind and solar power is merrily entering the French power market at prices nuclear production can't match, resulting in huge surpluses of power. 1/
