The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar Vučić can't be overstated. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

The Student List had no party machinery. It operated through university assemblies, protests and hiking between cities & towns. They had 2% of national TV political advertising airtime vs 93% for Vučić. This is one of the most remarkable grassroots democratic victories in modern European history.

Technology should support, not replace, skilled advisers. WyserASSIST helps reduce admin so advisers can focus on people. But advice services need investment to adopt new tools, train staff and build a sustainable workforce for the future. Read our new report: https://bit.ly/4BBT0j5 #AdviceSaves

Do we trust AI with advice about serious matters? "There is a difference between getting an answer and getting advice you can rely on." Really interesting piece by @adviceuk.bsky.social Chief Exec (based on UK poll) about public use of AI for advice, the limitations and what we need to do next 👇

AdviceUK@adviceuk.bsky.social

The question is no longer whether people will turn to AI for advice. They already are. 7 in 10 UK adults have used/consider using AI for advice. Our CEO explores what this means for people seeking advice & how technology, Govt & advice sector should work together: https://bit.ly/4BgErRP

35% of UK adults have already used AI e.g. ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini to get advice or info about personal problems (money, benefits, housing or legal issues). Another 35% haven't used it but would consider doing so. Public are open to AI but trust & accuracy is another issue bit.ly/4BBT0j5

Care workers were given guidance that was detached from reality, including advice to remain two metres from people while providing intimate care. PPE shortages left some working with unsuitable equipment or none at all. The report calls this “wholly unacceptable”. 10/10

It would seem the Home Office has now acquired the ability to impose, without visibility or accountability, shadow bans on students coming to British universities from particular countries. How? Because of the interaction between indiv visa decisions (made by HO alone) and visa rules for unis 1/?

Edward@fornbirkibeinn.bsky.social

Anecdotally what seems to be happening is that the Home Office is refusing all student visa applications from certain countries. The Treasury should have told them to knock if off years ago but at this point the FCO needs to tell them to stop trying to cause an international incident.
