Sean Duffy: "The truth is, transit across America is dangerous. And these liberals -- liberal mayors -- they want everybody out of cars and into trains but they made the trains unsafe so nobody really wants to ride them ... even big men don't want to ride the subway at those times of night."

Then why continue to CUT programs that help people & vote against MINIMUM WAGE hikes that would improve lives for many? Why not facilitate mental health programs and housing opportunities to get people into more stable environments… oh, because then that would be a handout. Can’t have it both ways.

Says the guy who is driven to work every day by his security detail. Anytime you have a lot of ppl on a transit system or busses, there’s bound to be a few incidents. Still safer & cheaper than driving (& parking). Sounds more like he’s scared.

They are so terrified of affordable public transit. Every developed country in the world has a robust public transit system and we refuse to do so because it would benefit everyone instead of billionaires.

I thought he was the secretary of transportation? Isn’t it his job to fix dangerous situations? Oh wait! He continues to crash planes so trains are now someone else’s fault because he doesn’t know what he’s doing! Reality TV is not real. Such an idiot.

I'm a white guy from small town north dakota and I rode the manhattan subway drunk at 3am in washington heights to my shitty basement apartment I shared with 5 large immigrants just fine, thanks, sean.

I thought the “dangerous” areas of San Francisco were much exaggerated & were nothing a functioning health system & society which protected its most vulnerable wouldn’t solve. 🤷‍♂️

And basic data supports you--the NYC subway system had 1,120 violent crimes in 1.1B trips in 2023 (which was relatively high!), so you have a ~1:1M odds of getting injured on there per trip. To incur the same risk of injury by driving in the US, you'd only have to drive... ONE POINT THREE miles!

Driving statistics are absurdly complex due to factors like driver age, time of day, inebriation, wildlife density, and inclement weather - so local drives are prolly somewhat safer. But I really, really doubt Mr. Reality is taking that into account for this evil propaganda!

Did you know that our Transportation Secretary is a "typical Midwestern boy who just happens to be a lumberjack Sports World Champion" who's "going to give you a lot of physicality and skill but not much in the way of drama"? TIL! Only the best people. thechallenge.fandom.com/wiki/Sean_Du...

You're not an attractive, conservative, utterly terrified, helpless and frail Fox News host who gets mugged of her $20 million annual salary every 10 minutes in her own apparent by illegal aliens. Imagine what would happen to these people in the subway.

Subtext: Screw public transport. Every Americans should be driving their own Tesla. What’s the problem here Sure, electric cars aren’t manly, but hopefully Musk can develop a 6.2L 10-cylinder gas burning truck for the fellas.

I am Big Man, and i used to ride the Metra from Chicago to the suburbans. I never had an issue once, but I know why he would be scared of trains. There are a lot of poor people, and people of color, that he would have to sit by.

For sure. I'm just pointing out the insane idea that instead of trying to fix the problem that they claim exists, they want to just have people not use the service that has existed in New York for the last century to move people around.

If this isn’t “let the eat cake” I don’t know what is. They are basically saying that low income families don’t deserve safe transportation after gunning Head Start down, adding a $1000-3000 monthly child care bill to working parents won’t be able to afford a car payment, let alone gas/insurance

I always laugh, I went back to NY last year and it had been about 10 years since I had been in Manhattan and all my family right across the river in NJ. Literally 30 minutes away won’t go in to the city because of the BS they see on Fox. A few more homeless than I remember but I never felt unsafe

Even people who live *in* Seattle thought buildings around CHOP/CHAZ burned down lol. Sadly our city's public radio station participated in a lot of misinformation and the lesser-informed liberals of the PNW ate it with the same spoon they eat all NPR coverage with.

Funny story I actually interviewed for an anchor job on one of the Seattle all news radio stations but I didn’t get it. Would have been cool working down near Climate Pledge.

Fukkin' A. I've been literally everywhere including various "hoods" in the course of biz & rarely felt unsafe. I'm an older woman, not exactly a hulking he-man that the right adores. I've walked alone down DC streets that admittedly were bad but I was committed & carried on. The subway? Pshaw.

What he is really saying is, " Actually, it is the number of guns in this country that makes anyone unsafe who goes shopping, to school, to a concert, to worship, to get groceries, or who rides public transportation.

Yes. Very large pick ups here. They assume we will let them do whatever they want to protect ourselves. I've been pushed off the road. Just Wednesday a giant assh0le just merged at me right before a roundabout, didn't even try to signal, if I hadn't stopped, I would have been hit or hit a tree.

A quick search turned up 339 accidental deaths on transit in 2022 and 42,514 motor vehicle deaths in 2022 50 homicides on public transit nationwide and 141 road rage deaths by gun 413 shootings with injury. Couldn't find numbers for other weapons so that number is probably higher overall

Same, I've never hesitated to jump on the subway when I'm in a city with one. The drive in usually frazzles my nerves so bad I look forward to just kicking back on the train.

I'm a simple guy that grew up in farm country. Visited NYC as a teen. It was my first time in a big city, first time with public transit too, and I felt really safe. Most people didn't care and the people that actually interacted with me were all really nice.

In what way did the liberal boogeymen make the trains unsafe? Also, does the secretary of transportation have any plans to make sure its safe for all those big manly men to ride the rails? Apart from whining that is

Commuting became unsafe when white flight happened in response to desegregation and the civil rights movement. Additionally, emptying out most state owned mental health facilities with no safety net for the disabled and destitute led to more chronic unhoused people sheltering on transport.

I bet these "big men" are scared because they can't tell if it's a hot trans or a hot cisgender and they don't want to touch a wee wee when they are assaulting a woman. But for sure, liberals want everyone to do crazy things like care about the environment and other things like Jesus said.

Bingo. They're drumming up the fearmongering for the fascist MAGA base. Go after public transport right after the orange criminal just made owning a car at least 25% more expensive. These people are the worst.

In my 20’s I would ride the train from my server job south of Houston all the way up to Washington Heights. Often I fell asleep. Late nights (early mornings)! The worst thing happened! I’d be embarrassed when the transit worker would wake me (gently) to exit the train. Sean Duffy is a tool.

houston highways scare the shit out of me. more than once in the past few years i've seen burning wreckage on the side of the road. only city i've ever been hit in, at highway speeds. we're literally moving to nyc for the subway lol

I love the line where he says “They have crazy people who reside inside of subways.” Dude! You have the craziest person residing in the Whitehouse and crazies all around HIM. I’ve been to NYC and taken the subway after 10pm. Guess what? I wasn’t afraid and nothing happened.

That person is from Queens. Does anyone know whether he, or his kids, have ever taken the subway? And I, too, have taken the subway after 10 without incident. Hell, I've been in Central Park after dark and never had a problem. (Apparently the Central Park Precinct has the lowest crime rate in NYC.)

And you are far less likely to kill someone if you hit them with an old school muscle car. Those things were LOW. They’d likely end up on the hood. Those new trucks it’s like hitting someone with a 5 foot tall wall.

They did it by allowing the trains to have more civilian passengers than cops riding them. And, y'know, keeping people from bringing guns on the subway to protect themselves against minorities. And by making us wear masks for a few months instead of spreading Covid faster like Battacharya said to.

In fact, we will ride the train into downtown tomorrow to protest this ish. The 10 year olds sign: Put Trump in the Dump The 13 year olds sign: You can believe what you want but please don't believe my beliefs are wrong or hurtful. My sign: What would Jesus think of that Roman Salute?

I grew up in rural farm area and have lived all over the USA in large urban areas both in core metro and suburbs. The only place where I have ever been a victim of crimes was in rural America. Isolated farmstead theft is rampant. Thieves know when farmers are in town or in the field.

In one if my best friend’s small hometown, when they have funerals the families of deceased have to get people to watch their homes to prevent break-ins. People watch for funeral services to know when people will be out of their homes. I was flabbergasted to learn this.

When my great uncle was being buried, thieves stole his antique black powder rifle. Thefts during funerals are a thing. Another thing was pretending to be antique furniture buyers and talk their way into people's houses and make very low ball offers. If refused, they came back and stole.

Republican snowflakes lol I used to live in central California the closet "train station" is either Fresno or Bakersfield. Now I lived in Missouri we don't have a "working train station" the closet where I live is either Oklahoma,Texas or Arizona
