RFK Jr: "President Trump has a different way of calculating percentages. If you have a $600 drug and you reduce it to $10, that's a 600% reduction."

Candidates should have to answer a question about percentages and if they fail, be disqualified. A simple way to get Trump disqualified.

I mean... there are, sort of. Financial math can get all sorts of bonkers. If you have a stable baseline you can use that, for instance. Even in this case there's the right way ((600-10)/600) and the wrong way ((600-10)/10) but _neither_ hits Donnie's figure.

(Realized how "well, actually" that sounded. Didn't mean that. Stand by multiple ways to do percentages for, say, quarterly versus annualized growth. They're not relevant here though.)

There actually are, this just is not one of them. But, like, you can do ($600-$10)/$600 =0.983, then 0.983 x 100=98.3%, or you can do (($600-$10) x 100)/$600 =98.3%. Importantly, though, both methods give the same answer, and it’s not 600%.

Those are equivalent methods. If you consider them distinct, then there are an infinite number of methods for calculating percentages.

They are different, equally valid methods that produce the same result. That’s a really common thing in math. And yes, actually, there are technically infinite methods, although most involve simply introducing extraneous steps.

No wonder he went bankrupt 6 times. The correct answer - reduce $600 by 600% = -$3,000. Lots of people would like it if they would get a refund of $3,000 every time they purchased a drug costing $600. What he is talking about reducing $600 to $10 - is a 98.33% reduction. So not even 100%.

"President Trump has a different way of calculating" most everything from jobs, taxes, anything he want to calculate. He is a stubborn sleep deprived emotional five year old who can do anything he wants to do about anything and everything including his college sports problem that he is fixing.

That is not how math works! We know Trump has a different way of calculating things, its literally why he was convicted of 34 counts of fraud!

I wasn't gonna get into his entire history of using fuzzy math. I will note he bankrupted 2 casinos, and Casinos have the house advantage.

I know! Let’s all just ALLOW Trump to have his OWN version of math. Don’t correct him. Don’t tell him he’s wrong. Just let the President of the United States MAKE SHIT UP, and let’s all PRETEND that it’s real. That will fix everything.

To paraphrase Daniel Moynihan: You are entitled to your own opinion, you are not entitled to your own math.* _______ * Unless you're Isaac Newton and/or Gottfried Leibniz

I just worked it out, and though I have very little confidence in my math skills, what I came up with is this: $600x0.0167 gives you a price of $10.02. If I’m doing it correctly, that’s a reduction of 98.33 percent. Again, math isn’t my strong suit..

“President Trump has a different view of patriotism and personal ethics. Every dollar that Trump LLC can claw from any source is a win for MAGA.”

You know, because if you are going to ascribe to a "new way" of doing Mathematics, you should follow the rantings and ravings of Trumpedo who has bankrupted 6 companies and (soon-to-be) the strongest economy in the world.

Maybe that exposes the root of the problem of why so many of Trump's businesses fail 🤷‍♀️. Guy can't do math!

Demento is as adroit at math as he is at telling the truth. He is incapable of doing either, so constant lies. Dementia is making it so he can't even remember the lies.

Alternativly, measuring a reduction percentage based on the new value (so for example calling a 75 % reduction 300 % because its 300 % of the new value) would be rather nonsensical way to Express reduction. But even If that was meant, it would not be 600 %, but 5900 %

Yes, you have mistaken the formula. It is: (old price/new price) x 10 =savings expressed as a percentage. A reduction from $600 to $10 would be a 600% reduction, and a drop from $2 to $1 would be a 20% reduction. It's quite simple, really. 😉

That doesn’t even make sense as an example because no way does Trump have a conception of math where something being reduced $590 is 600%. Trump would think something being reduced $600 is a 600% reduction, or something $600 becoming $100 would be 600% less. So even RFK’s fake math is fake wrong.

Trump often treats numbers as emphasis tools rather than exact measurements. - why not just expose this then you don’t need to do the math. Because there is no math.

The thing is, people would be ecstatic to hear a $600 to $10 reduction described correctly as a 98.33% reduction. If you advertised a "98.33% Off Sale!", people would stampede. It's a gift that these idiots can't use because they'd show up their unbelievably stupid and insecure boss

Good lord, these people are so bad with basic elementary math and you’d think since RFK Jr. had direct access to the best schools, he’d know the basics. But maybe he was on cocaine back then … 🤷‍♀️

Considerably less. You'd go to the pharmacy, and not only would they give you the medicine for free, they would also give you $3,000 to take it from them.

That’s absurd, of course, but this also buries the lede. EW was making the point that a drug that costs $200 on Trump Rx costs $16 in generic form at Costco.

You can figure it out however you want. Old school math, new math…but the correct answer is still the correct answer. Dumbasses. Republicans need to stop making excuses for his stupidity.

O man, I can relate. For the longest time I thought “plane geometry” was actually “plain” geometry. It wasn’t until I was well into adulthood that lightbulb came on.

Uh, sorry. Math is math. You have to do it the right way. You know how I know? Way back in the trauma that was Algebra class, I would frequently, somehow, come up with the correct answer, but didn't show the "correct" work, so I got the whole equation WRONG. FUCK BOTH OF THEM!!!
