Ernst simps for Trump's ballroom: "The correspondents dinner where the president, cabinet, & all of our correspondents were put in jeopardy by a gunman -- if we can move those social activities on the premises of the WH, make sure it's secured, I think it's a great investment by the American people"

The President cannot dictate where private events will be held. Will President Trump hold all his political rallies in this "secure" ballroom? The argument is ridiculous at face value, and Ernst should be ashamed.

What’s so obviously ridiculous about this argument, and what should be pointed out (but won’t) in every interview is the fact that every chance chump gets he’s hopping a plane to Florida 😡! What good is a billion dollar ballroom in DC when every weekend he’s busy golfing and DJ’ing at Mara Lardo 🤬!

Billionaires -represented by their GOP/fascist politicians - want us to pay to secure their parties; and they want to party in a very lavish ballroom befitting their status. The cost does not matter to them because they intend to steal our tax dollars to pay for it all.

She’s such a waste of air. And that hair really needs a revolution. Hell you’d think because she isn’t seeking reelection she would just shut up and quit supporting him but maybe she’s hoping for a place in his regime. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔🤦🏻‍♀️

An investment by me usually means there’s at least the possibility of an upside at the end. I’ll get zilch from my tax dollars going to some bloated monstrosity of a vanity project that this corrupt president and his cronies will use to pretend they’re kings.

I love it when they see in power and spend us into oblivion but when s dems tried to spend on real stuff like healthcare or education they sr wasteful. I never want to hear them complain about spending again

Ernst, why not use the existing ballroom?

I just learned this today. There is a huge ballroom that is located a mile from the WH. Holds 1000 people in neoclassical architecture. Was dedicated under FDR and is run by the GSA. "Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium" Why build a second one? He is wasting money on vanity! www.eventsatmellon.com

Or, we could just stop holding these ridiculous, worthless, ego-driven social activities in the first place, Joni.

She forgets to mention that the correspondents dinner would never be held at the ballroom, and, even if it were, it wouldn't be big enough to hold everyone that attends. It's fascinating that Trump has attended this dinner ONE time in 5 years, but suddenly it's like it's an event for him.

Agreed: all maga rallies at the Whitehouse, and all golfing will be played in the secure old East Wing... The previous two Trump activities with long range rifle attempts are reasons to everthing inside the new East Wing.

They think that group of people is irreplaceable? If there is a risk WTF were they in the same place for a unnecessary party?

"investment" 🤡🤡🤡 Most Americans will NEVER see that golden vanity ballroom. It's meant to be a place for the extreme wealthy to party, NOT for average Americans, who right now can't even afford gas to drive to work. What's Joni 'We All Are Going To Die' Ernst getting from Mobster Trump for this?

The White House does not host/sponsor/organize the correspondents dinner. It is organized by the White House Correspondents' Association. The President and Vice President are guests, not hosts.

Yet, there is ALREADY a secured ballroom, 300 feet away from the White House. We use it for our Inaugural Balls and sits more people than the proposed illegal one. #ballroom

Except for the fact the correspondents dinner would have never been at the White House because it’s not a government held event. Trump was invited, he was not running it. These are planned events, he can’t just demand they move everything into a ballroom just because he’s decided to appear.

This event had/has nothing to do with the president or government and it was the first time he ever went. He also goes golfing every weekend and does events at maralargo and other locations, will all those be moved?

The security worked, you idiot. Jeezum H Christ in a handbasket Joni, what does the orange goon have on you? Why do you keep simping for the grift? You're on your way out, you don't HAVE to do this anymore. You're making John Cornyn look absolutely manly.

Hey Biscuit Lady, the Ballroom™ is 1/3 the size of the venue you referenced. Also, Trump doesn't need to attend an event held by a non-governmental association. In fact, this was his first appearance in either of his two terms.

Ridiculous. The WHCA is a private association; the dinner isn’t hosted by the president or the WH. The ballroom—to the degree that there’s a plan for it—wouldn’t be big enough to accommodate it, anyway. And he goes to rallies and graduations…we’re going to move all those events to the WH? GMAFB.

It would be easier to just not invite the president. He hadn't attended before, so he obviously doesn't need to be there. It's not a government function. It should not give them control over who attends. The reasons are plentiful

The party of small government wants a future where any event that invites the president to attend must allow their event to be held entirely in government facilities where control of the event will be removed from third parties and given entirely to the state. Security is always the excuse.

Maybe congress should pass legislation that makes it illegal for the president to appear anywhere besides the white house. You know…for safety. Put in a putting green and say no more golf trips…too open. Presidential safety is paramount.

"I think it's a great investment by the American people" I dare say you do, but then you can afford to put food on the table. Those who cannot afford to put food on the table due to Trump's ridiculous antics in the Middle East and dumb ass tariffs would, I suspect, think otherwise...

Right, that's the silliest part of this entire argument. Is the new plan for the president to never leave the WH grounds during their term? All events worthy of a POTUS visit are solely conducted in their forever-bunker? I can't wait to see how they campaign for re-election from there!

Guess based on recent behavior: They'd allow their favorite correspondents in the ballroom and video broadcast to the rest of the "fake news" organizations somewhere else. The dilemma for Trump will be if he can fit Barron's whole wedding reception in there someday, something along those lines...

Cabinet members, congress members, etc. shouldn’t have better security measures provided by public funding than children in public schools.

Abject, sychopantic drivel. There is not public interest in the WHC dinner beyond seeing the President get a gentle roasting from a comedian. The President is the guest not the host and Trump didn't even show up in his first term. Ballroom has nothing to do with it.

Every item used to be more affordable, adjusted for wages. Food, gas, college, healthcare, childcare all became investment vehicles or extraction points. The shift from public goods to profit centers happened gradually enough that each generation accepts the new baseline as normal.

95% of the American people she’s talking about won’t be able to be part of those who benefit from the taxpayer funded ballroom.

The WHCD would NEVER be held at the White House. Is the ballroom going to be rented out like its a hotel venue? Are private entities going to be able to hold functions there? Thats the part these people dont want us to think about because thats their ONLY argument for it. Sad!

As a 75 year-old American taxpayer who is way beyond sick and tired of my money going for things that don't benefit me or anyone I know, the last thing I feel like funding is a ballroom for the already haves and the elitists. These people are out of touch. That is an understatement.

Every so often, I try to wrap my head around how every member of the GOP has given up any semblance of principle (if they ever actually had any) in service to Trump’s ego despite the fact that he would sell every one of them out if it benefitted him in the slightest.

How does that happen to an entire party? It’s not about values to them anymore, or even ideology. It’s not even about power — they have ceded any power they have had to him. And now, it’s not even about politics since it seems that the party is hemorrhaging support.

I try to wrap my head around it, and I just can’t. Ernst is a good example of someone who appeared principled (although I didn’t agree with her) and an actual conservative. But I guess that was an act. But every one of the GOP is like her. I just can’t comprehend it.
