Mark Carney: "This fall we will begin intense discussions with the European Union, the world's second-largest economy, to build a much stronger and deeper economic and security partnership"

Trump destroyed the very diplomatic alliances that kept us economically strong and militarily safe. Democrats should be painting him as the enemy agent that he has been. He not only needs to be impeached, he and those who conspired with him to undermine American democracy need to go to prison.

There should be a study on how these 10+yrs of Trump has altered the mental health of Americans. As a combat Veteran with PTSD and other issues, I'm growing angrier, withdrawn, depressed and feeling like death would be better than life. I had to untangle all this post deployment, now its back. 🤬

Cool thing about the Senate and House of Representatives every single vote is recorded and online. They can't duck out from under this. All we have to do is look; already recorded for us.

Wait until Canada SMACKS Trump into reality with the energy we get from them! YES! Trump WILL let Americans suffer and die through shortages and outages because he’s NEVER made a deal in his life that didn’t end up costing FAR more than ridiculously necessary.

This is technically the beginning of the Commonwealth Union: the U.K is still an ASSOCIATE partner of the European Union since it would be insane to stop being one when the economy is bad, and Carney wants relations with Malta, Ireland, and E.U associates once ruled by Britain like Israel.

The US is going to have to do some serious soul searching after MAGA. Which of our allies, friends, and partners are going to willingly come back without some strong guarantees when we elected Trump TWICE!! A good chunk of the country lost its mind and took the rest of us along for 4 years of hell.

The big problem here is that once Canada establishes these partnerships, were done. Its not like they'll just drop them if there's a D in what's left of the White House. The EU is a vastly more stable environment by comparison. Were literally a failing nation.

The partnerships have been and are continuing to be established. Our PM has signed agreements with 20+ countries this past year, and has reiterated the committment to following through on what has been signed. I'm certain we're further ahead than the public is aware of, presently.

We already have a lot of partnerships with Canada. Like CETA or SAFE. Intensifying the good relations is just natural. But that doesn't mean, you're done. Both, my EU and Canada still need access to the biggest market on earth. We actually want US-Americans to buy our products. But w/o Trump.

Yes, because how can we be sure you won’t vote in some crazy Republican for President in 4 years? We know what the young republicans are like - stories like that make it onto our news shows. It’s going to take a generation or more before we think of trusting the US again.

Matthew, are you saying that, I, voted for him twice? You do realize there are people in the US that voted differently, right? We did what we were supposed to do, vote. We voted. Despite all the BS, that's how its supposed to work. You cannot sit there and say Canada is free of fascists...

The EU isn't that stable either, though we may have a few more years before the shit hits the fan. If Rassemblement National wins power in France, and Alternative für Deutschland in Germany, then nobody really knows what's going to happen to the Union, but it won't be pretty.

Twenty-seven member countries in the EU. Getting agreement amongst them all + our three levels of government, no thanks. As we have seen with these trade talks some provinces did not show a unified front.

All the member states of the EU are sovereign nations… it’s just an agreement between them and they all decide and vote any policies. It’s as if you said that because Canada is part of the Commonwealth it is not a sovereign nation…

I was responding to a post that said quote "Canada's accession into the EU" Definition of accession -Something that has been acquired or added. Canada does not need another layer of governance.

That is exactly the way that is needed. There is a very real risk of overstretching EU governance if EU authorities would have to, in addition to the very diverse problems on this continent, get involved in issues on another continent it absolutely isn‘t familiar with. e.g., first nation rights.

It would be bad for this to happen. First Morocco's application in 1987 was turned down because Morocco is not in Europe. Second I am not sure First Nations would be overly thrilled being labelled European.

Lay this at the feet of Republicans, who have enabled every insane whim of a mentally-ill President. They did it. Let them know how you feel about it. #Vote #RejectRepublicans

The damage has been done. No other country can trust the US ever again. When in 4 years or less whatever was agreed to can be torn up. The trust and reliability is never coming back. A lot of people think the US is just over now.

That's a reasonable response. A fix (that WILL take years) is a Congress that embraces its Constitutional duties to oversee both the Executive and Judicial branches. We need a SCOTUS that will enforce laws and an Exec that won't overstep bounds. #RuleOfLaw CAN be restored, with enough time.

All useless without the overturning of Citizens United. Corporations are NOT people. We need representatives whose first loyalty is not to their biggest donors.

Canada has every right and every reason to move away from the US concerning trade. Trump and his MAGAts have chosen to bully Canada and turn our long term friendship into this seemingly pointless war. This shouldn't really surprise anyone who has watched Trump flounder as a businessman and leader.

The various crusades lasted from 1096 until 1291(fall of Acre). When Bush invaded Afghan/Iraq the people called them 'crusaders'.That roughly 700+ yr hate is about what the child rapist-supporting US of Shitholes can expect cuz of the Trump/Kushner MAGA RINO anti-ally,hate-mongering gangsters.

True but we have huge natural gas reserves and an interest in getting it offshore. I believe more Canadians every day want to bypass the US for this resource. Then there's gold, copper and many other mineral deposits, and we need to stop selling it to the states for discounted rates.

The world is walking away from Donald Trump. We must do the same. Impeach and remove to stop his madness and begin to restore our freedoms and international friendships. Without which we are just a diminished landmass on the surface of the earth🤷🏻‍♂️

Or any subsequent administration. The US has shown that world, in the last 10 years, that it can't be trusted. In 18 months it has burned through any goodwill capital it may have possessed. The US simply isn't worth the risk.

I meant more for the economics given that’s the scope I was replying to. However, I live in the UK as a gay man and while I’m sure there’s ‘hazards’, I haven’t experienced them. Unlike in the EU where I’ve experienced homophobia and racism as a darker skinned individual.

He was in Québec today thats why. In Lévis a city across St Laurent right in front of Québec city. Its an investment annonce for Davies to build 6 icebreaker ship. Timing could be a great fit sometimes.

I once told my Canadian coworker that I regarded Canada as a European country that just happened to be on the wrong continent :)

Canada, I personally can’t wait to get to know you all better! On a sad and stupid backdrop, I am excited for the future with you. Love Denmark 🇩🇰

i mean.. can you blame them.. they found a new partner.. after calling out the domestic abuse.. they have chosen strength.. not enablement.. oh look .. their first date. (Ps.. tell the the common man at Gen Dynamics how Trump is a great at business)? www.bbc.com/news/article...

bbc.comCanada orders 12 submarines from Germany in largest defence deal of its kindCanada announced the multi-billion dollar deal with company TKMS just as PM Mark Carney headed to a major Nato summit.

or.. when sanity hits the usa again.. anyone buying our hardware will demand the IP/source code on the technology that makes it work (as they will point to our swing states and ask well.. what if you have DJ part 3..) we want the arms + the Knowhow.. or we'll buy from someone else.

My hope is that this decreased demand will help the US scale down our insane military industrial complex and the seemingly limitless funneling of taxpayer dollars to all these “defense” contractors who think they can act with impunity because they’re too big to fail.

Smart. Trump is killing our markets. Sadly the YS shouldn’t be trusted. MAGA owns this along with people that sat out the election or couldn’t vote for a woman. You get what you voted for… Canada you are a great neighbor. I wish you the best!!!

Wait, what? I thought that this had commenced almost immediately after carney was elected and ongoing? WTAF? You mean Carney kicked this down the road, thinking he could out chess a psychopathic extortionist, and not need to end US hegemony or diversify trade? #cdnpoli

Note, the only people taking exception to this post are taking exception to the question "did Carney kick the can down the road?" and not to the point about Carney promising to end US hegemony, and Carney believing that you can negotiate with kidnappers, terrorists and extortionists.

He had to wait out the clock. The previous agreements were legally viable until now because they sunsetted without re-ratification by the US. He was merely demonstrating that we are sober, reliable respecters of the law and our own word. I may criticize carney for other things, but not here

Look, it is not easy for Canada to make the decision to finally detach from the USA. My guess is some USA leaders were asking Carney to wait, but he now has a firm view that waiting for Trump to act logically is a precious waste of time, and that none of the people saying “wait” are standing up.

Trump is the best thing to ever happen to Canada as it fills the void left by the US on the world's stage. 'Do you agree, Mr. PM Carney?"

The EU does not even manage to stop all trade with Russia...we still give tons of money to them for oil, gas, fertilizer. Our companies still bring taxes and directly help the war machine. Every missile that lands in Ukraine could not have been build without the support of european companies.

We even had german construction companies helping Putin realize his blood and soil strategy in Mariupol. And you think anyone would stop business with the US over Canada? If Hitler would be alive today, the EU would finance his war, no questions asked.

In World War 2 Canada provided 95% of Allied nickel, 40% aluminum, zinc, copper, uranium. Million+ Canadians served and 45K died. 323 Canadian companies have invested $45B in US mining sector. The two nations are complementary in terms of reserves and production. Bullying an ally is pathetic.

Some states seriously need to start thinking about separating from the US. Sorry, it is scary & nobody will stop him. As a Canadian I will never trust the US administration again, doesn't matter who holds the house. As Carney said - US agreements are signed in pencil. It was is all unnecessary.

The problem with that, even if somehow it happened, is that the rest of the United States is liable to further implode since the needed votes to stop it go away and that may harm Canada more.

Until the US — as a whole — goes through a MASSIVE positive culture shift (or decentralizes into separate sovereignties) it should be treated like a humongous untouchable off-limits leper colony.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Assumed that the Old Colonies would rush to have New trade deals with their old Colonial overseers. Australia had other ideas though. As did India. And the Constitutional Republic of Ireland. 🇮🇪🇪🇺

He's a traitor working for Putin. The objective to destroy all our relationships. Kinda like how an abuser will try to isolate their victim.

Why not amalgamate the blue states to separate from the US and become a different country? Rename, whole new gov, pattern the laws according to democratic beliefs etc. It would take great patience and time but when dumpster and his thugs are gone it might be a plan. Then set up trade with 🇨🇦.

I wish America could follow your example. Fight back. Speak Out. All countries have issues and checkered history but we need folks to bring back the America we respected and mostly could depend upon.

If California wants to trade with other countries without having said trade controlled by someone with dementia, they should secede from the U.S.

I keep saying, PM Carney should start talking about taking over the west coast of the US (all those liberal counties!) and making them into Canada's 11th province. Leave the interior rural red counties to remain California USA. How does becoming the province of "Pacific Canada" sound?

I’m not sure why there haven’t been blue state governors not actively pursuing sending economic delegations to our former allies? CA, WA, OR, IL, NY, NJ, VT etc; We are in a cold civil war and it’s high time state leaders figure it out.

The trade war with Canada continues to escalate. Trump announces a 50% tariff on a wide range of Canadian goods. Canada immediately retaliates with the nuclear option: an indefinite suspension of all Canadian bacon shipments to the United States. Negotiations are expected to resume shortly.

Allison, I, for years, agreed with this proposition. Since the 2 were equal in bargaining and dependent upon each country's legislature to approve such a contract. When they succeeded, a provision had been breached they were within that right. However, rejoining negated terms of the contract.

That's a myth. What Texas does claim (at least in OUR TX Constitution) is the right to divide itself into as many as five separate states. Whether the federal gov't would have to accept that division and grant us 8 more senators is another question entirely.

What you might be thinking of is this - Texas had in its initial agreement to become a state the right to divide into up to 5 states, a unique status. However, my understanding is that it lost that right as part of its readmission into the US after the Civil War.

There were concessions negotiated in order for TX to join the USA. Succession was one TX advocated for. I am not sure, but flying the flag at the same height as the US flag came about also. If you’ve noticed, they are the only state that does this. All other state flags are below the US flag.

Texas and other states do not have a special legal right to leave. Case was decided in The U.S. Supreme Court when they ruled, in the 1869 case Texas v. White that the Union is perpetual and indestructible.

It exported wine. But then some Adam Schiff (D)Moronic Eejit got on live TV and Told Canadians to Lift their Voluntary Boycott of Californian wine as his Electorate are Losing Money. That's the Nature of a Bleed'n Boycott. To Lose Money. Phuck. Is there anything between their Ears. 🇪🇺🇮🇪🇨🇦

And many other States. Remember when border was basically a check point and we drove or walked through? Trump wants it to be his next losing war zone. Everything Trump touches dies.

In Canada, an unpopular Prime Minister and his government would fall. In America, the path is through impeachment. Don't tell us you're not on board with Trump after electing him...phone your Congressman.

Yeah, not having access to your natural resources is going to really hurt us within a decade and only get worse. Where are we going to get those resources from, China, conflict drenched countries located in Africa , Central and South America? Trump is pushing away an absolutely critical ally.

Today is the anniversary of a very auspicious day in Canadian-American history. Hey Canada; if you wanna give it another go the rest of the world will swear you were with us all the time, if you get my meaning...

Despite all the undoubtedly good Americans with common sense, they have, for the second time, elected a lying, criminal, corrupt president with a serious metal problem. Who will definitively lead the US into a ruin.

The “we can because we’re trusted and reliable” part of this clip is what folks in the US should be concerned about.

Trump blows dictators and screws the US for decades. It will take the world decades to forget America could elect a moron commander in chief, a gutless Congress and have appointed the most corrupt Supreme Court Justices in our history and they all hold Republican power simultaneously. We all fucked.

I don't think MAGA realizes that Trump, Bessent, and Lutnick have chosen an economic war against an actual banker. Like THE BANKER! America is bringing pool noodles to a knife fight...

Donald Trump is political malpractice on steroids fed by the House and Senate Republicans who continue to enable him with complicit silence. Alienating America' strongest ally and once-closest friend is a disaster for which they are *all* responsible. Remember that in November.

. There is a massive trading block which, unlike Trump, would treat Canada with respect and give it a fair deal. It would be USA's great loss and,a big win for both Canada and the EU. . www.politico.eu/article/cana...

Everyone is making plans without the US because they have determined we cannot be trusted. This is, um, what’s the word I’m looking for? Oh yeah, bad.

Oh boy, our nearest neighbor will be looking toward Europe to strengthen economic and strategic partnerships?! We will feel the isolation Russia, North Korea and China feel, as theirs are not the voices of reason. We will learn what it feels like to be out on the periphery, as credibility tanks.

My spider senses tell me this will be short-lived, as they welcome him into the fold, but they will soon be positioning for full separation as Drumpf will want dominion over these dictator allies (and they have no intention of abdicating their thrones to some Harry-come-lately).

Ah, the classic geopolitical "it's complicated" status update. We’ve gone from "divorce" to "intense discussions" in record time. Turns out the economic gravity of the EU is harder to ignore than a Terms of Service agreement.

How uncomfortable for the wider Canadian diaspora who live in the United States who make up so much of American culture. I have nothing but sympathy. To make your neighbours your enemy is an icredibly low bar and history tells us nobody wins. They must be

As a USA citizen, this also makes me sad. Canada covered our backs during the immediate aftermath of 9/11, taking in and housing stranded USA travelers as USA leaders tried to figure out what happened and whether there would be more attacks. It is sad that a madman is pushing away our strongest
