v1.122 is rolling out today, featuring a better way to discover and share articles, blog posts and newsletters across the Atmosphere via new, dynamic Standard.site link cards. 🧵

This is part of our ongoing work to make Bluesky a great place to connect with the rest of the Atmosphere. We’re pleased to see others recently investing in making the same connections. WordPress now offers a plugin that lets any WP site publish to the network as well.

activitypub.blogATmosphere 1.0.0 — LiftoffThis post isn’t about the ActivityPub plugin. ATmosphere is a separate plugin from the same small team, for the other half of the open social web: the AT Protocol, the open network behind Blu…

Other major improvements: You can now use YouTube, Substack, and beehiiv links to go live. We’ve also introduced a split view to chats, so you can see your other conversations while you chat.

The release also includes a rebuilt GIF picker, a refreshed photo viewer, expanded moderation labeling at the account level, and a fix for a bug that was silently dropping some iOS video uploads.

The chat is totally messed up now. What kind of vibe-coding clown came up with this BS? The content is off-centered, massive amount of whitespace is blocking the screen for no reason, and the left menu is reduced to icons and cannot be expanded, which is also inconsistent with the feed view. #fail

just throwing this out there truthout has made it known that fraudbook aka facebook, has made it quite difficult for truthout to run their fund raising thru that platform might be worth your effort to fill in that gap thank you dave

It moved to the lower left for some bizarre reason. I'm still trying to figure out why REPLY and POST appear at the TOP of the window when, typing brings your eye, and thus natural inclination, DOWN. They should appear at the bottom.

Open formats get really interesting when multiple tools can read and write them without breaking the workflow.

What I need is a button that appears when I type too much text or paste in too much text into a post Pressing that button then breaks the overflow of text into additional tweets Maybe call it Chunk, Chunkify, Span, Dividify, long windify… It’s up to you

I still don’t know what standard is. Is it a repository or archived for posts? That’s great. Does it happen behind the scenes or do I write my post on their platform or here? I need a place to post long length posts bc I’m tired of breaking up a normal size post into 10 smaller posts to fit here

Use your words@useyourwords2.bsky.social

@bsky.app @support.bsky.team Feature request: Have you considered allowing users to create full length formatted posts (no length limits)? And then allowing me to link to them in a repost? Example below:👇

what the fuck are you talking about, no one uses any of those looking forward to when y'all remember about THIS site & do anything to improve it

This was like 99% an external team effort. Like even the new cards were created by the external team and not by the Bluesky team. Remember this is an open source project that accepts contributions by external non-Bluesky PLC devs.

I kinda like labels. They are great to both filter people that have very repetitive toxic behavior, and also add things like pronouns or fan labels to recognize people with similar interests.

I have a very polite question, for once. I am too exhausted to roll my eyes at this. Have you, at any point, considered how the new account-flagging system will interact with the post-labeling system?

If a completely unnotable photo of a puppy or a sunset is marked at NSFW because OP posted a photo of their bum one time, who is this helping exactly?

I'm here for art, and as such I don't want to get an artist I would enjoy hidden from me. I have the same right of finding nsfw art as the people who only want sfw. This just puts puritan people as a priority and it is discriminating. While tagging is important, I don't think this is the way to go.

people often intermix their nsfw and sfw posts. labelling an entire account as nsfw when there’s both nsfw and sfw content, ESPECIALLY WHEN POSTS CAN BE LABELLED INDIVIDUALLY, is going to decimate people who use your site to be able to make ends meet. humans aren’t a monolith, ye?

Still can’t be bothered to add editing but can be bothered to add a new system label entire accounts as adult based on a single suggestive post I don’t blame the developers (if there are any left that haven’t been replaced by ai) but Bluesky is becoming more and more impossible to like every update

I want to like this place A year ago you had a good thing going If you just took in more feedback instead of going in directions nobody asked I would be singing your praises right now The people in charge of this place seem to be completely against criticism though so I don’t expect any improvement

hey so maybe if you don't want people yelling at you then consider not doing things that make people yell at you. just a thought we don't need you hiding accounts that sometimes post NSFW. this is a decision we can make on our own. why would you think we want this

Please rollback expanded moderation on an account level. I already have adult content set warn for images I don't want to see. If I don't want to see the the content an account posts besides those flagged posts I already have the option to unfollow, mute or block them. This is just a nuisance

The comprehensive post labeling tool for sensitive content is the entire reason I'm on this site. I have been singing the praises of the ability to safely share both nsfw and sfw art on my account since I joined. Tagging entire accounts as NSFW removes one of the USPs I recommend this site for.

Yeah, it will massively hurt accounts like mine. Yes I post NSFW art and my account is very much 18+, but I also post a lot of SFW content which can be hidden from people following me just for that

We don't need to hide entire accounts because they chose to post something 'adult' now and again. This is stupid. Stop with the enshitification please. The current warn system was working just fine.

your AI labler is shit. marking whole accounts as nsfw does the opposite for visibility. it would be a million times better to be able to manually blure/ hide a picture. what a garbage platform you create. why not rename yourself to X the everything app already

Please roll back the account level NSFW shadowbanning, we already have content filters that work really well for individual posts and most accounts post SFW as well as NSFW or only post NSFW on occasion! You've broken your system that worked well, people will leave your site

Hey, so the account labelling? Awful idea, terrible, no good, very bad. Like what's the point of the flag system if you're just gonna go ahead and bury folks who drew a butt or happened to cosplay a suggestive character? Or got mass flagged and reported in a targeted attempt to run them off?

Please just let US label posts NSFW instead of effectively muting entire accounts..its stupid..not everything someone who posts NSFW content posts will BE NSFW..some will be SFW..

This is going to cause many problems for accounts automatically labeled "adult" who already tag/label their content. We don't need this. It will hurt livelihoods.

Dude literally just warn and suspend people for a day-week if they misuse tagging system instead of just slapping a bandaid on mistagged posts it’s not that hard I know you guys suck ass at listening to anyone whatsoever when it comes to anything but come on

Hey, staff, this kind of defeats the entire purpose of the flagging system you had already implemented, which worked perfectly well. All it does is serve to further silence creators who are already struggling to maintain an audience in an increasingly purity-washed climate. This sucks!!

Marking accounts as adult and effectively censoring them from the general public view is exactly what caused Tumblr to crash and burn during the time the net neutrality bill that came up & was shot down in 2018, Verizon bought Tumblr then added a bot that exists to this day and still causes problems

Why are ya’ll so committed to making this platform worse every single time you update it. Why is your code such shit. Why are you doing this. You could have just been a good twitter alternative but ya’ll are so fucking bad at this.

with the vast majority of my fellow bsky users vehemently outraged about everything bsky is doing, over and over again, i have to wonder whether bsky even really understands what they're doing.

do you guys not realize that you're already almost as hated by your own users as twitter? at this rate, the moment a reliable competitor launches, you're done for. @kagi.com hey i got an idea

The NSFW filter doesn't work and is being applied to accounts that don't or rarely post anything remotely risque, and not being applied to full on porn accounts. The system we had before was fine. Most people remembered to add NSFW tags and the ones who don't usually got caught by the auto flag.

It feels like you guys are just doing this to get rid of the auto flag and appeal system so you can have AI replace even more work and save you a buck. Y'all may have built this site but you'd do well to remember who made it successful.

I'll also add that it COULD have been fine if it was purely optional. There's definitely some of us here who would like to avoid minors and puritans at all costs and we wouldn't mind risking losing a couple potential followers for those who don't know how to unhide NSFW posts. But y'all fucked it.

You guys might as well had done a tumblr and just outright removed NSFW content entirely because what the actual ass is this update? You're rendering the entire platform useless if you post any adult content whatsoever Which you guys totally won't just rely on AI vibe coding for that, riiiiight?

Not a fan of the new picture viewer. 😕 Saving an image is now two taps away. But worse, the menu is very in-iOS, on the left side (instead of right), making it harder to reach. It’s also using vertical-aligned dots instead of horizontal. It’s just breaking the UX pattern with many other apps.

Also, the placing of the indicator multiple images at the top is strange instead of at the bottom. And if you’re trying to save multiple images, the image saved notification keeps being in the way of the menu.

Hi you're gonna roll back this crap where mods or algos label somebody's entire account NSFW and hide even their SFW posts. That's some utter bullshit. Artists need to live.

It seems like you're trying to run a website into the ground. Would you like some tips? Just look at what Twitter did, and copy their playbook! That'll completely alienate the users who came her and MADE this platform. Remember, DON'T listen to the users! You'll fail JUST like Twitter!

And nothing mentioning a new account-wide "adult content" label being applied to accounts, essentially rendering the content filter feature pointless? Y'all just NERF'd a perfectly good tool. If you want to see accounts with that broad label, it's all or nothing bsky.app/profile/deen...

Good job on your account-level censorship, Bluesky. I don't want this at all, but you didn't even get your reason right. #Bluesky #censorship

I’m getting increasingly frustrated that platforms think AI is what we need in our lives. Just let it die already this shit is a waste of money, and we are not consenting to it. #FUCKAI #NOAI #AntiAI

Who is paying you bums to go super gross prude mode? These gods awful, obnoxious and frankly puritanical rules your implementing *against* porn creators and other adult content makers are just plain stupid and no one wants them. Porn built this app. Adults built this app.

This is an unjust act of hatred towards artists like me who don't bend to your view of the world. I know this update was created without consulting your users. I will be sending a message on your feedback though I sure that you might file it away as a complaint, I will make it will that make listen.

If you chose the name Atmosphere because of its association with the blue sky, then allow me to suggest here that we should call Bluesky posts 'zephyrs'. I trust this will be properly discussed at the next meeting.

Stop treating NSFW creators like garbage. Individual posts having the labels makes sense, slapping the label on the whole account makes that worthless. Punishing people for labeling correctly means that people stop labeling-- stupid asinine censorship

So... instead of making improvements to your often faulty post moderation (that sees a sliver of naked body and labels it sexual no matter the context and appeals usually aren't even looked at), you're just gonna hide entire accounts? I wonder what happens when people get no traffic to their pages-

-anymore... oh right, they're not gonna want to keep using ur platform! They don't wanna post into a void! They're gonna leave!! Congrats, way to make it worse for everyone involved. Let's all clutch our pearls together and embrace censorship. Literally nobody asked for this. Highly disappointing.

choosing to moderate whole accounts when automod can't even flag posts correctly is embarrassing, and redundant since moderation exists for individual posts. There's no point to flag a whole account except to punish the user. We want to use the moderation tools already in place please just let us

The new NSFW account punishment is very hostile to users. It completely defeats the purpose of the existing content filters. If I want to see someone's SFW posts but usually don't want to see their NSFW posts, I'm shit out of luck now. Just a giant step backwards.

This is like the boss asking "What would you like in the break room?" Employees, "We'd like a functional microwave." "Ok, we'll shove an AI trashcan in your face, and you'll like it! We'll MAYBE get a microwave this year... probably next year." States the out of touch boss.

literally how is this correlated with AI..? the thread explains why it is a MAYBE and not a definitive. if only you knew how to read..

having to open every single post by an account i choose to follow because it's been labeled adult, with media posts having to be opened *twice*, is clunky and it sucks. users should be able to label on a post by post basis, not an entire account. it punishes adults on an adult-majority website.
