v1.122 is rolling out today, featuring a better way to discover and share articles, blog posts and newsletters across the Atmosphere via new, dynamic Standard.site link cards. 🧵

This is part of our ongoing work to make Bluesky a great place to connect with the rest of the Atmosphere. We’re pleased to see others recently investing in making the same connections. WordPress now offers a plugin that lets any WP site publish to the network as well.

activitypub.blogATmosphere 1.0.0 — LiftoffThis post isn’t about the ActivityPub plugin. ATmosphere is a separate plugin from the same small team, for the other half of the open social web: the AT Protocol, the open network behind Blu…

Other major improvements: You can now use YouTube, Substack, and beehiiv links to go live. We’ve also introduced a split view to chats, so you can see your other conversations while you chat.

The release also includes a rebuilt GIF picker, a refreshed photo viewer, expanded moderation labeling at the account level, and a fix for a bug that was silently dropping some iOS video uploads.

The AI said you made too many dick jokes this month now it's time to put all your posts in the no-no box

I advise you to roll this change back or at least make it so that only the account owner can decide whether or not their account is “adults only” and also let people tag their posts as needed without the risk of auto moderation making their accounts invisible.

Get rid of the account-wide adult labeling, the per-post label is perfectly fine. Let occasional NSFW posters exist without getting their account practically nuked, due to adult content being toggled off by default or entirely unavailable to users in countries with age verification crap.

consider changing it to a label for users who frequently post NSFW content *without* labeling it themselves? I understand stuff sometimes slips past automated moderation but users who diligently label their own content should not be punished with an account visibility nuke

stop hiding adult accounts/content under multiple filters. i've seen several accounts i follow having their posts hidden, and their content hidden under that even when it's not sexual. their comments aren't visible unless you specifically click on the post either. this is a terrible feature.

The account label makes the nsfw label as a whole worse When I have it to warn, I want it to stop me scrolling past genitals in public, I don't want it blocking someone talking about their pet cat while I'm in private. You've turned it into a game of roulette.

account labeling will be weaponized against people you hate, and for nothing else. remove it. it's a horrendous feature, and we will fight you on it at every turn.

Accounts that sometimes post NSFW don't need their entire accounts censored, especially by an AI bot that mislabels everything. There was already a labeling system per post! This choice needs to be reverted.

This is just going to hit anyone that's posted a modicum of skin. Fix the NSFW image filter instead of rolling out this crap no one asked for. I stopped using the discovery feed because it was filled with unmarked fetish content and this is what y'all are working on :I

Your moderation labeling is a terrible idea. The labels are there for a reason. Stop moving the goalpost on creators. We’re tired of bending over backwards to try to get our work seen.

Not possible ever in the ATProto ecosystem because who account A follows is entirely contained inside account A's data (which can be self-hosted instead of on BSky servers, federation), so account B can't modify account A's data. Even if you block someone they still follow you if you check the API.

hey just curious, what the heck is this? accounts that post labelled adult content should be allowed to exist in public, not filed away in some void. you had a system that made sense.

Fuck off with the arrogance, seriously. It's like the more the userbase here swells, the more you fuck us over and (try) to gaslight us into thinking it's a useful feature that's for our own good. Roll back this whole-account labeling shit, no one trusts your AI to apply it correctly/fairly.

This account level adult flag is asinine. Mod content. My experience is not improved by having to click a button to see a one sentence post about how someone wishes they were playing a video game right now.

Labeling entire accounts as adult and effectively muting them sitewide is a garbage change. You are swiftly blowing through any and all good will you had when you spun up this website.

girl please do NOT introduce moderation at the account level 😭 don't you know what happened to tumblr? The community and userbase there was growing and thriving until they cracked down on "adult content", and then everyone left in droves. It's practically a ghost site now. Please learn from history😭

particularly important to note that it's not just nsfw accounts who left Tumblr. SFW accounts also left in droves. Everyone submitted complaints, and when the devs wouldn't listen, we all left as part of an organised boycott. This WILL happen to bsky too if yall dont start respecting your userbase.

Hey, let us turn off moderation by account if we don't want it. Moderation by account creates more uncertainty and hides SFW material I want to see.

Hey, my app just updated, and it's very convenient (sarcasm) that saving a photo now requires two clicks at the top of the screen instead of one click at the bottom, where my fingers were already. Could you reverse this change?

Kindly go fuck yourself with this censorship rollout. Your platform was partially built off the backs of NSFW artists and your overreach is disappointingly ungrateful. Your previous system of user-led boundary needs worked fine

What the fuck yall r stupid yall need to actually moderate shit stuff gets auto flagged for no reason all the time!! I made a species refrence in tan colour's (like parchment) and it got tagged THERE WASNT EVEN ASS

Oh wow... that account level labeling is implemented like shit. The labels were beautiful, preventing sudden nudity from popping up in public... Well time to turn off the warning so I do get to see all the people bsky moderation deems worthy to shadowban. Great job making your features useless!

That rebuilt gif picker is complete garbage. At least, the site it uses to source stuff really sucks. It couldn't find half the things I looked for. As for the adult tagging stuff, that's expected outta the people who run this site, all I can say is LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT

Please revert the NSFW account label thing! There is no way of knowing if clicking on a post on my dash is going to reveal an innocuous text post or giant oozing dicks. I do not want to see the latter and the previous content warning settings ensured that I could avoid them. Now it's a dice roll.

Like, what's under there? Is it a risque pinup drawing, which I'm fine with seeing? Is it a giant ejaculating wiener, which I don't want to see? Surprise! It's neither! It's a regular text post complaining about this change being really poorly implemented! :(

I've shared my opinion on their official Git Hub, I suggest you all do the same if you have an account there.

I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this update.

Honestly all we needed was the ability to label text as well as images so I could wax lyrical about my love of the noble sausage without bothering anyone who doesn't want to hear about it ...

The sheer disconnection of Bsky's staff from their audience, or even basic common sense is astounding. Sure there are SOME accounts who only post NSFW, but the previous system of manually labelling images worked well! And if someone forgot the label? Just add a way to apply it later on!

Don't use the full account moderation! It defeats the purpose of your post moderation and customizable filters system if someone only occasionally has an NSFW post but the entire account gets hidden.

Broadsweep auto-moderation always ends up in failure. People are best at keeping other people in line. Instead of taking away agency from accounts, please add tools for users to moderate each other with the help of staff. It might mean more work for staff, but at least you're creating jobs!

(Contd) Training staff for moderation and hiring for customer support should be a priority for moderation! For paying said people, maybe ads or fundraisers, premium accounts profits, or Bluesky merch? I'd buy a tiny Bsky Butterfly nightlight to decorate my desk! Stickers too!

your expanded moderation labeling at the account level is making it impossible to tell whether an account is posting text or an image I have to gamble every time I click on the content warning now. this defeats the purpose of custom filtering on my end for those accounts. please revert until fixed

The adult label is handled quite poorly and needs to be reverted immediately as you risk silencing the majority of people that make this site thrive.

It's a little bit silly how the entire platform we're standing on can rally together to say that account moderation labels are Fucking Stupid™ and you still push it anyway as if you won't revert it immediately after

Can't wait to see people posting pictures of the Starship Enterprise to get shadowbanned by your nonsense AI for being too sexy. jhfc this is a terrible, garbage idea

The new Adult Content (Account) label is extremely poorly handled. Effectively muting entire accounts if a user chooses to use image filters is an egregious level of censorship. Please reconsider this change, or at the very least create a separate toggle for the account level filter.

Oh they changed things...it used to work so well 😭 I always had nsfw content to hide so I could decide to click on it of not depending on what the acc normally posted (like if it's art and I'm not with family/friends I'll click show)

I use Warn for this, since Hide hides the very existence of the post (unless you're specifically looking at it on the respective account). They use this distinction to hide entire accounts from users on the basis of those accounts being Rude (transgender).

Why on earth would we want account labeling....the whole point of labeling posts is to warn for the content in them so people can hide it if they want, not to label entire people as degenerates or whatever. It's so puritan. But sure, just slap a scarlet letter on anyone who ever draws a cock I guess

bsky.app/profile/high... oh ok this is why

pup quat@highlysuspect.agency

Ok lmfao bluesky's started showing me the "Adult Content (Account)" warnings and WHO FUCKING ASKED, so I guess I'm back to disabling the adult content filter on my client. If i ever reblog something untagged, I'm sorry it's because i literally cannot see whether things are tagged or not anymore

rip bluesky. you were supposed to be the solace for people being evicted from Twitter and tumblr for their overreaching moderation on NSFW. now you join the digital capitalist fascism of main stream social media.

Oof yeah this one is rough. It’s been on and off my plate for a bit, a lot harder to suss out than it may seem 😩 rest assured it haunts me and every now and then I take a few more swings at it

The adult content label is ridiculous. I don’t want to never see it again, I want to know what the concern is and make an informed choice. You’re creating a punitive system for anyone who chooses to filter their work or their views rather than leaving control in the hands of the creator and viewer.

Putting blanket labels on accounts that overrides their own personal moderated/curated post settings defeats the entire purpose of labeling posts in the first place. Individual post labels was one of the biggest advantages BSKY had over Twitter. Account-wide labeling just repeats the same mistakes.

No. Your auto moderation labels are already often inaccurate and mark a fair bit of posts that are completely and totally SFW as containing adult content. Do not do this at the account level. This is effectively shadowbanning for anyone that doesn't have their filter settings set to warn.

I sometimes draw nsfw but my social media account is primarily how I get eyes in my cute chibi sfw merchandise, this would make it more difficult to get eyes on my sellable work and so would harm my income, business, and livelihood, this is a bad and harmful policy

I don't even want to see NSFW material, but had no issue with how things were so far. I also don't want to hurt people whose livelihood depends on such accounts. I can filter stuff out and hide posts that (infrequently) fall through the net of my filters.

adding my voice to those who calmly ask you to revert labelling a whole account as nsfw; this will not be applied equally, and the moderation tools you have are quite robust AND default to nsfw off

Y'all are really starting to piss me off with this nimby shit. Nude art is art, nobody wants to us a site that cries about it. You're a legitimate site even with nudity, do not accommodate fringe lunatics, do not accommodate a "moral majority", they can shut the fuck up and go to church, not here.

Your account labelling feature is hurting people & helping those who want to hurt people Do you even run your potential updates by people who actually understand how social media works?

You guys can't even get your auto-labeling bot to behave properly! We've literally asked you guys to allow us to use multiple labels on a single post or to be clearer with labels, but you ignored us. People post SFW images that get auto-labelled as "suggestive" or "adult" constantly. And now this?

So what's going to happen now... the bot's just going to Twitter-style shadow-ban the account on us with no rhyme or reason? Now, if the account owner and <-ONLY-> the account owner has control over making their account "adult-only", I can see it having use for people who want that. Otherwise, no.

And, once again, this is just another feature most people didn't ask for. Can we get polls? Can we edit our own posts? Can we get *something* people have been asking for?

For a company run by people that should know the path not to take to become the next Twitter, you guys sure seem intent on following your previous footsteps. Labelling accounts themselves as adult is going to do more harm than good to those accounts.

Genuinely why would you add all these granular settings to let us moderate our own timelines just to choose for us? Screwing over people for tagging their posts correctly is bafflingly stupid. Account labeling sucks. Throw it in the trash. Some of us aren't scared of titty.

Labeling entire accounts as "Adult content" even when they're not does not help the userbase or increase the users trust in your team. And with how inaccurate the current Automod system is, I wouldn't trust it to not mislabel even more SFW accounts until you have no users left.

ou won't label AI but you'll give people a "mature"y scarlet letter. I make money by selling my art, I need to advertise it on social media. If you hit me with a mature account label because I drew one breast and I'm trans you're effectively ruining this platform for me and I have no reason to stay

wow thank you bsky throwing some random letters in here that I deleted before posting GREAT fucking website please add more features we don't want

like we all know you're going to use this to further marginalize trans people and sex workers who built your platform. you fucking suck for this

Hey guys, the nsfw account thing is absolutely backfiring. I don’t know if this was an effort at some compliance with something or what, but it makes my timeline unusable. Can you share what the basis for the judgement is?

listen to people when they tell you you are fucking up when you only fuck up like 25% of the time, you can ignore that shit but yall losers fuck up like 80-90% of the time, you cant trust your own judgement

Please allow us to choose our own moderation. Almost everything can be chosen at an account level, please make it not biased to the developers/owners wants that aren't violating the rules of the site, otherwise there is no reason to advertise "Your timeline, your choice" if we cannot choose.

I believe every user should willingly be able to label their own posts or risk getting tagged by another labeler for their own reasons. The biggest punishment should be at the discretion of a user and it should be written what's not allowed to not be untagged on the site rather than solely reports.

How long until you start labeling any trans folks or just people who call out T&S abuses as “adult” accounts and send them into the shadow realm for no other reason than just because?

Here's a better idea. Remove the auto label bot and don't implement dumb ideas to hide the porn when thats what made your site popular to begin with. Remember what happened to all the other sites who turned on their NSFW creators? Sent to oblivion, abandoned, forgotten.
