Ignoring the fact they still have no clue, their *plan* is let the guy who has been at Target forever try to fix it? Someone steeped in the culture that led to this?

Freebie 50K consulting advice: Once you turn something to ashes, you can't put it back the way it was before. It's a one way street. Still on the homophobia boycott from the 90s myself. Their options are lean in to the fascism they chose or perish. Have fun in your new gig!

Here’s a starter plan: Make a statement Nazis aren’t welcome. Make a statement LGBTQ are welcome. In fact display Pride flags. Put back DEI, call it whatever you want.

Cool beans. They already lost that forever. You cannot betray and then just come crawling back. How are they going to earn trust? They cannot. This is the opportunism of capitalism. O will always remember they wpuld kill me to make an extra dollar.

JUST CONTINUE TO BOYCOTT TARGET AND DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO DESTROY THEM. THE OLIGARCHY MUST DIE. THE MAJOR CORPORATIONS THAT HAVE PROVEN THEIR ABUSIVE NATURE MUST DIE. OBJECT. LESSONS. MUST. START. BEING. MADE.

I stopped Target, never eaten Chick-fil-A, don't go to Starbucks, won't go in a Hobby Lobby. If this feels like virtue signaling, it is. If you think I'm saying my virtues are somehow better than yours, yes, I'm also saying that. Stand up for people, not money. Eat the rich.

They have gestapo cameras in the parking lot monitoring customers and work with the gestapo against their own employees. No thanks, would rather shopn at a company that doesn't absolutely hate their community.

About the only thing that can save Targét (note to CNN: that's how you would spell the pseudo-French pronunciation, with an accent) is if a private equity bought it, sold off the real estate and data, fired the workers, borrowed against it and then let the brand whither and die.

That's so funny, because I literally did not understand what the word referred to until I read your comment. I thought it referred to some kind of corporate speak for a kind of product branding ethos. What idiots.

Then you've entirely missed Target's reputation with a lot of their customer base. Which is fine, if you're not part of that, but is not good if you're CEO. There's a Somali saying that a leader is a guy with a bunch of heavily armed men following him and he'd better be real sure about why.

Fake fancy, more akin to Mrs Bucket of Keeping Up Appearances than real French. If we're trying to spell it the French way, a g preceding the et would actually give the appropriate soft g sound, so no spelling change would be necessary.

“Once that [line] is crossed, there are few routes back. There is no ‘final straw’—a price cut, a promise to ‘do better’—that can be reversed to draw them back in, nor was there one that could be avoided. The triggers for each individual are different, but their effect on the group is cumulative.”

Live in a small town don’t shop target or Walmart. If forced to choose in a crisis I will go to Walmart. At least they have always been honest about who they are. In the past I went to target all the time. It’s not Tarzhay it’s TarNAY for me

Retail rushing to attract wealthier customers because they won’t lower prices. The truth is wealthier customers are also impacted by the increased prices and there are not enough to support Target, Chipotle and the like that want to focus on people with more money.

How *not* to have an effective turnaround. People feel betrayed by Target knuckling under to Trump and his goons. Letting ICE stage their vehicles in Target parking lots says a lot more about company priorities than any rebranding they may attempt.

I am not a DEI zealot- I understand the pros and cons…my issue w Target is that they dismantled their DEI program cause an orange idiot “commanded” they do so. The lack of backbone to support their own policy was embarrassing and just too predictable. I have not been in a Target in 13 months

I haven’t shopped there in over a year and a new PR campaign is not going to change that, in fact it is just insulting that they think this would work over meaningful restitution for their behavior.

I went to a Target last week because I had gotten a gift card for Christmas and not using it is like giving them money. Forgot the gift card at home (which is how too often I roll), so left without a purchase. I'll go back with it, but I'll give them as little of my own money as possible.

🖕 Never again, will I ever shop at Target. I used to go there exclusively, for my yearly Christmas snowglobe purchases and wrapping paper. Target failed the easiest test imaginable, for the worst reasons, and shit on their customer base doing it.

They wanted to tongue pump Trump's rump and are out here wondering why that isn't going so well for them. Too bad they can't turn back time, but baby those days are gone; they can get sores in the bed they were in such a hurry to make. Some customers actually prefer ethics.

Corporate America is constantly showing how incredibly stupid board room group think can be(including cnn). All this research that showed inclusivity is good for the bottom line, but target got frightened by a lot of noise/bullshit,panicked and looked weak, meanwhile Costco just laughs and laughs.

Given how instantly and aggressively capitulated (the one nearest a college campus that has 1970s San Francisco density of LGBT people didn't even have any Pride stuff last year) I find the explanation that the board already wanted the change and used Trump as an excuse to be pretty credible.

yeah I've just accepted a little less convenience and won't go to target. you aren't providing a unique service, you're a store. when you squander brand loyalty what other differentiators do you have??

Target might also want to go back to selling quality clothing, instead of the ugly cheap looking shit they've had on the shelves for the past several years.

Sorry, I was already planning to boycott Target was because I had to wait 30+ minutes in an aisle because everything was locked up & there wasn't enough staff to open the case for me. For a cheap rice steamer. Then they did the DEI thing. They can fail

Duh… It’s all this: "it’s also made strategy mistakes. It scaled back Pride displays and rolled back DEI programs, angering its liberal customers.” ^^^This is the reason why.^^^ Still missing the boat.

They don’t get it. If your brand relies on those ‘liberal’ customers, telling them to eat shit so you can appease the MAGA crowd, who will never shop their anyway, is a horrible idea. But fuck em.

How does he expect to get back the customers that decided to try Costco memberships and discovered it’s way better than Target ever was? Probably not going to go over well. 🤷‍♂️

This strategy will not bring back any of us who left and aren't missing target in the least. We'll all be at Costco where they don't cater to bigots and Nazis.

Whatever. In Trump's 2nd term brands have told us they have no principles and will absolutely throw any one of us to the wolves for a dollar in profit. There's no reason for any American to show brand loyalty to any of these vultures. Go where you get the best deal. Steal what you want if you can.

It didn’t help that the alienated, a major part of their customer base specifically at a time when the stores were already struggling—increasingly disorganized, rarely well stocked, poorly staffed. Trying to buy something like a matched pair of lamps was a nightmare. Don’t miss the place at all.

Target management: what if we became really okay with black folks being treated like shit? Like, what if we were super on board with demeaning non-whites? Target management after: okay, that was fun and all but how can we make money? TM even later: maybe we shouldn’t look so racist?
