They should make some movies with positive representations of liminal spaces. Like when you work at a convenience store and you can go in the walk in behind the drinks. You can smoke back there and steal sodas. Why don't they show that on the movies

I can’t remember the name but there was a movie about a record store I vaguely remember that had some of those spaces if I remember right. It’s been so long but I remembered thinking it was cool as pre-teen.

I worked in a Kmart when I was 20, and there were like 6 places you could absolutely hide out for multiple days if you wanted to, without someone finding you. It was wonderful.

At a community theater I worked at in high school, we found an empty unused space you could get to by squeezing by an electics tower. Someone had brought in inflatable furniture and a beaded curtain. We called it the zen room and it was the best place ever.

I would watch a movie about two 7-11 slackers who steal so much that the manager is getting suspicious, so they fake a malicious klepto poltergeist as a cover story. Sure, fine, the real poltergeist shows up in the third act I guess, if we must.

Every time I go visit another library, I'm always like "Show me the basement and/or the attic" and you can always tell so much about a library, and sometimes a community, by what is in those spaces.

Stairwells are only represented in chase scenes. The "I'm just going to stand here for a moment and then awkwardly start walking when a door opens" moments are under-represented.

Shows set in hospitals seem to break this a bit, patients or staff hiding in stairwells to either smoke or have existential breakdowns. Nice little stairwell pep talk, get back out there. Probably way easier to film an elevator convo than a walking in the stairwell convo.

Back at university we used to hang out in this book-lined room on a seemingly-abandoned floor of our building The coffee machine there not only worked, but was better than the one downstairs!

I used to get paid decent money to patrol empty offices that were well secured in an industrial park. I was creeped out for, like, a day. I patrolled with this lady who used trauma dump about every terrible thing that happened to her. I smoked weed on the clock. No one cared.

*... and they said that it was septic shock. No one ever explained to me ..." <stoned, incapable of speaking, barely sensate, nodding and pursing lips> "... but it punctured my liver, which can regenerate ..." "Heh. They called it the liver because it makes you live. Heh."

Idk if you watched any of the show Peacemaker but the part where he has a portal to another dimension where he keeps his stuff is real. Every restaurant has those. They just keep big cans of diced tomatoes back there instead of guns

I want one about showing up just after dawn to your bullshit facilities job with a checked out supervisor where you spend two hours drinking 711 coffee out of a stupid big thermos and loading up the work truck while sunbeams filter through the tress and pierce the steaming dew rising off the grass

You know sometimes in buildings there will be doors that are like half-width, or half-height, or like five feet above floor level because the layout changed at some point? Yeah, some day I'm gonna work at a place that has that and THEN I'LL GET TO GO WHEREVER IS BEHIND THE MYSTERY DOOR
