Trump is on the brink of betraying Ukraine and the UK. Britain must lead in Europe by increasing defence spending immediately and all political parties should get round the table to make that happen. I fear what happens if we don't take this step.

He has already passed over the brink. He has betrayed Ukraine, Europe, NATO and the free world. Please do not make the mistake of thinking this is something that can be reversed. The new reality is that our former greatest ally is now our enemy and we have to adjust accordingly.

Yes, or I suspect Trump and Putin will be dependency building in the West like never seen before, by controlling the world's energy market. Russia will move West as far as it can without resistance from the U.S, as NATO will be made defunct and the remaining Europe disunited and left begging.

The serious & patriotic politicians/partys yes, but not the traitors & incompetents from the tories & reform. I would like us all to be united in the face of this impending struggle but politicians such as Johnson & Farage have questions about their links to Putin that must be answered in depth.

There has never been a more important time for Europe to be united. European countries are becoming pawns in America's geo-political game of chess with China. It needs Europe to bend to its mighty will by turning its countries one by one into anti-democratic states- proxies.

Suggest that there's a new tax "Defence Levy" chargeable on all taxpayers bar those currently serving in the Armed Forces. Whether it is on Income, Land or Wealth I'll let you decide. Set it at level to raise the 3% of GDP & reduce ordinary Income Tax. We could nickname it a Trump Tax.

This is Lammy’s speech at G20 (it seems someone forgot to press ‘record’ so no video). He condemns Russia’s behaviour and commends Zelenskyy, but doesn’t mention Donald Trump at all, as if he’s not throwing a “Putin plunders you or we do” deal into the mix. www.gov.uk/government/s...

It has to be European defence spending to develop our technologies and capabilities otherwise we are just funding US military dominance over us and financially supporting what is now a fascist state allied with Russia

Yes, true, Ed. Defence spending now is AS crucial as pandemic spending was during COVID. Borrow, trim what can be trimmed. Get Defence budget UP. Europe needs to meet Putin toe to toe & UK should show the way to EU. Be a friend.

Carry on like this Ed, drop the daft stunts, speak sense, back our place in Europe and I'll be voting for you from now on. Make Starmer up his game. And get more media time. Stop being ignored.

If ever there was a time to be a member of the EU, this is it. The foolish people wouldn't have thought about a situation like this. We should be seeking a way to return to the fold before things get even more deeply troubling than they currently are.

Keep saying this Ed. Europe needs to show a united front and stand up to Trump and Putin. If Trump has his way, Putin will not stop with Ukraine - it will be the Baltics and Moldova next.

I fear for the world. History is repeating itself, only this time the world doesn't have the USA to save it. Who will provide the economic and human power to fight the evils of Trump&Putin? Europe alone does not have the resources

To be clear, Trump is not betraying Ukraine and the UK because he has, and has never had, any intention to protect or support them - this from November 2024 and they blocked US funding while in opposition

In my view this should include a tax increase targeted at those (like myself) who are lucky enough to have the broader shoulders - rather than cutting services already struggling to help those in need.

Time for Britain to increase defence spending to 2.5% as quickly as possible. Politicians should get around the table to look at going to 3% of GDP. The question is not whether we do this - it's what happens if we do not.

Agree with that. And yet we've been here before. many times. - West could have stopped Putin in 2014 and didn't. - West could have stopped Putin in 2022 and didn't. The price of stopping Putin only increases with time, yet we seem incapable of dealing with it. Will this time be any different?

Wealth tax. It's the answer to all the country's money woes. The mega rich are rolling in it. They took it from us in unpaid wages and tax avoidance. We want it back.

Quite. If you, Canada, and Western Europe do this, you’ll be relatively safe from Trumpistan. If Germany does it and faces east, you’ll be safe from Russia. If you don’t, you’ll be Trump’s prey.

Keep this up 👏 3.5% paid by a wealth tax. In honesty I'd happily pay more tax as we are in a situation where we (&EU) need to de-align from US military dependence. Spend on improving wages to ⬆️ recruitment, accommodation, long range missiles, Ewarfare and a lot of cheap drones like Ukraine are using

The industries involved in defence! Such as shipbuilding, weapons manufacturing. It's fuel for an economy.

All Trump can officially do is stop US aid to Ukraine. Although it will be interesting to see who supports his degree on Ukraine. I’m guess Putin, the N Korea guy, and probably China. It’ll be when each team shows which side they’re on. Also fuck Trump

During his first term, Trump was in the midst of a regime change, attempting to restructure the entire geopolitical landscape w Putin, giving him the remainder of Ukraine to increase his reach into EUR. Twice he mentioned this. I had no doubt he’d finish the job if he was elected. This is so tragic.

You really need to stop this overblown, vainglorious nonsense about the UK 'leading' Europe. The very notion is absurd. The UK needs to start more modestly by learming to be a reliable and supportine partner in Europe. #Politics #DadDancing

He doesn't even recognise Zelenskyy's right to be at the table. Total disrespect bsky.app/profile/kyiv...

⚡️Zelensky is not 'important' to negotiations on ending war, Trump says. U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Feb. 21 that President Volodymyr Zelensky is not essential to negotiations to end Russia's war in Ukraine. kyivindependent.com/zelensky-is-...

America, the country, will always be a friend to the UK. The American Dream inspires many. But America is sick. It has a cancer at its heart, that is eating it alive. We need to fight against it, to help our friend survive this ordeal. King Donald and President Elon must be opposed.

You are not our friend. A friend doesn’t vote for a leader that puts tariffs in you, destabilises your continent, and threatens a realm of our King with invasion. That’s what an enemy does, and the quicker we acknowledge that the better.

I'm from the UK. I know and respect many fine Americans. They're really struggling under this new paradigm. I won't turn my neck on the people because of a corrupt tyrant. We had Johnson so we're hardly immune to bad judgement.

Johnson is not Trump’s level, not even close. The fact is that enough of them see the whole world as either their enemy or their poodle to elect someone like this means they cannot be a friend. It’s as simple as that. It’s 1938 all over again, and this time we aren’t acquiescing.

He beyond the brink. And his attempt to strip $500 billion from the Ukraine economy must be stopped. But also, Britain and the EU should write off Ukraine's debt. And pressure the World Bank and IMF to at least reduce their exorbitant interest charges on Ukrainian loans.

Agree 100%. It's all very well for Starmer to say he will act as a bridge between the EU and the US, but I want no bridges with a Russia run by a KGB agent who aspires to Tsar status. Perhaps Ukraine would be interested in using its mineral wealth to put into NATO. It must have occurred to Zelensky.

One utter priority is to give the MoD culture and procurement process a kick up the arse: they’ve been singlehandedly responsible for more waste, delays and non-delivery of key systems than any supplier.

I would be very interested to hear what Nige and Kemi respond to this!! We also need to consider the US bases in the UK. Might be time to rip the plaster off, but those areas are likely to need help from the govt in place before we kick them out.
