No, don’t worry about it. I don’t think we’ll see that level of impact until a majority of Americans are all encouraged to be on extremely low doses of GLP-1s for their entire lives.

To be honest I don't know how much it matters. They will just lie about data anyway if it doesn't suit them, like when they used this chart with a completely made up date for when Trump left office, and which claimed to describe illegal immigration but was about people stopped at the border.

nah, he's caused so much unhealth that the hockey stick will show up after he's gone (and also because GLP-1 agonists will keep getting better and cheaper)

I can damn-near guarantee that the demolition being done to US public health will outweigh any relative decrease in obesity-related conditions for the minority of the population that can afford these medications

also the disease outbreaks and stuff too, and the fact that he actively and openly despises medicine There were a lot of ways the fashies could have locked this in, but they just refuse to

Counterpoint, this won't actually be effectively statistically backed up until RFK Jr is long dead, if it ever will, so it will barely matter for relevant near term discourse/political valence.

I want to say that the press has been surprisingly good about separating Kennedy's woo from the benefits of semaglutide. But then I remember the people who voted for Mamdani because they thought he must be a conservative since he talked about "prices" and "the cost of living."

We're in luck, fellow Kansans! Cuz we're handling the dead babies for like FIVE STATES! (NO BUT SERIOUSLY & that is a lot, but we got this, right? We will just...employ more doctors & nurses specializing in ob/gyn...stuff, I guess? That seems kinda good, actually?)

Unless there's another pandemic. In which case, God help us all b/c we are all dead with that maniac leading HHS. I don't want to go through another one, but man, that would kinda feel like just punishment from God or Something Close To It. Ok, knocking on wood now and self-STFU.

with so many of our watchdog groups permanently dismantled I'm worried the next pandemic will only be noticed once we start running out of refrigerator trucks again.

Let's just hope that the Europeans & Canadians (or Mexicans or Chinese, or anyone, really) are as skillful at detecting new diseases as we were once upon a time. In theory, it's not like America is the only capable global actor in a pandemic. We just kinda act like we are.

Lolwut. Measles is back. Half the food in the grocery store might make you shit yourself to death. I will concede I've only been around for three and a half decades but in that time this is the *only* time I've had to worry about either of those things. Feels like a step backwards to me.

It *is* an issue because it was a disease that had been eliminated and now it's back. That's an issue on its own, but also I'm not content to let children suffer and die just so adults can choose to put more children at risk of the same fate. Just because I'll be okay is irrelevant.

Suerly you understand that very very few people will buy in their eyes random shit they have to prepare themselves and then put it in their body? Like im not arguing about the effectivity here but unless this gets widley avaliable by standard means it wont have an effect

Oh my god. You desperately need to listen to maintenance phase. Most studies that correlate body fat (obiesity is a political term) to morbidity are cooked specifically to demonize fat. In addition, causality is just assumed.

Eh there are undeniably a lot of health issues with obesity (this comes from someone who is aswell so I really dont mean it as a personal attack). Altho Thorne is definitly overestimating the impact of these things and how easily accesiable they are for people.

I lost 80 lbs on GLP-1s and am trivially keeping it off after never having anywhere near this level of success before, you can't convince me this is a "fad," so I suggest you devote your energy elsewhere

I’m glad it is effective for you. I hope you have long-term success using it and staying on it. Your individual outcome also doesn’t determine whether or not it is a fad. Time will tell.

With modern data analysis and now AI, it won’t be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff and understand that despite any health improvements from GLP-1 agonists, there will be huge increases in infectious diseases and heart disease from excess animal fats.

That’s ok. Will be evened out from measles, screw worms, and parasite infested lettuce. Maybe polio makes a comeback as well. It all balances out in the (sooner than you think) end.

Maybe? The article notes heart attacks are growing in the under-40 population by about 2 percent a year, so it wouldn't take that much of an improvement from GLP-1s (or other changes) to stop it.

I just personally dont really think its worth worrying abt tbh.

If ur worried abt people attributing an improvement in population health to RFK Jr’s tenure, ive got some news thats gonna be a huge relief for you. bsky.app/profile/jenk...

No, most people who need GLP1s - and I mean actually medically need - can't afford them. They're mostly for the rich to abuse. It won't make a statically difference though since most people with a real need for them won't get them.
