One of these days people will wake up and realize that there's been one good Star Fox game and half the reason it was good was because it was insane that they put new weird math chips inside the cartridge.

Not to mention they've never come close to emulating the coolness of those original StarFox puppets. They looked like real animatronics straight out of a George Lucas movie.

I was going to say it was from the PTSD it gave us for losing our teammates to permadeath. Starfox 64 having them come back after being away for a level just wasn't the same.

It was so crazy that Nintendo Power had to give you a papercraft Arwing so you could conceive of what they were doing with triangles to make shapes in 3D, people had rarely seen these things in console games, and if they did it was like 2 frames per second in Race Drivin' or something.

I played X-Wing at the time but I still was drawn to the arcade action of Star Fox, or Galaxy Force II. Terminal Velocity on PC gave some of that type of fun too. There's something to that style of game. Maybe it just isn't going to make that huge an impact but it serves its audience.

OG Star Fox is great but IMO it feels like an early attempt at what turned out to be Star Fox 64. I grew up with both and at least for me, most of my nostalgia is tied up in the 64 version.

my own take is that Nintendo (or Miyamoto specifically) wants Starfox to be Le Epic Space Opera Game but every step they've taken away from "experimental space shooter with funny animal people you can play through in a couple hours" has been a mistake

Command tries to be 2 resurrected but the problem is it's stapled to those Le Epic Space Opera Game ambitions and so where 2 is a tight, replayable affair Command ends up a slog you'll pick up once for the novelty and put down on account of the touchscreen controls

The issue is that Star Fox 64 dropped when I was 12 and didn’t have an income of my own so all I had to play were two N64 carts and I played the hell out of Starfox 64 because of it. It’s a great game, maybe even one of my favorites, but I have very little desire to play it ever again.

i have fond memories of 64 but let's be honest if 2 had been released it would have changed the brain chemistry of a generation in ways 64 could only dream of

If Nintendo wanted to remake a Star Fox title they should have remade the SNES release and kept the retro low poly aesthetic. Love that game to pieces but it’s hard to play these days.

It was nice to have a good rail shooter that you could play at home (and wasn't something dire like the Rebel Assault games). I think that's part of my problem with 64 - it wasn't enough of what I liked about the SNES version
