this guy's bubble popping (and the tech press' scurrying to explain why they endlessly mythologized yet another unremarkable asshole) is going to be delicious
one of the two major U.S. parties literally just passed a bill that creates a permanent unaccountable masked gestapo funded by mass human death and he's all fucking butthurt because one man in NYC suggested billionaires pay their fucking taxes
Yeah, I knew I hated this guy early on. Ending billionaires will make everyone's life better. And they can just imagine how much money they can save when they don't need as much security around them 24/7 because we don't want them off the mortal coil any more.
I don't know but if I were a billionaire, I would simply live a wonderfully rich life with the people I cared about, travel wherever I wanted to go, and shut the fuck up so hard that the media would forget that I existed. This should not be hard.
They want obeisance, blind worship, and a weird parental fondness, all at the same time.
They may just need someone to pat them on the head and say "you're a clever little business monster, despite at all the pain and suffering you cause just by existing, we still love you!"
Objectively, no you wouldn't, which is why Billionaire wealth shouldn't exist. No Billionaires just chill with their money, because that level of money is an economy in itself, not an income. It's incredibly inefficient and morally bankrupt, to put that much of our resources into one person.
"...does not think billionaires should exist" is purposefully scary framing. It mirrors the framing around Israel.
It is wrong that they attribute something to Mamdani that he would never say. He frames it differently because he obviously doesn't mean they should be exterminated.
I hope the societal parasites think we mean they should be exterminated, tbh. We should all be shouting “billionaires should not exist!” with our whole chest. However the oligarchs choose to interpret that threat is not our concern right now as long as they’re scared, imo.
I don't think every individual should have a private jet and forty houses and thousands of times more money than they could spend in a lifetime, actually. I think this would be bad for the economy.
also I don't want everyone to have private jets and multiple mansions and weddings where they rent out half a fucking city. I want *no one* to have any of these things.
"I'd rather hear from candidates about how they are going to make everyone have the stuff billionaires have instead of how they are going to eliminate billionaires,"
They do, it’s called paying your taxes, you goofy bitch.
Delicious? Idk, man. It's inevitable, but I think it's actually going to suck for everyone because so much capital is exposed and the AI emperor is definitely naked.
I suspect Altman’s claim of “political homelessness” is part of priming the public for Musk’s so-called America Party, which will bring together the tech oligarchs and fuel their plans of ruling over a deskilled, surveilled public while the tech overlords live in “freedom cities.”
Yeah, generative AI is here to stay and maybe someday in the near future it will actually be something more than a fake excuse to fire swaths of workers, but at this moment I am 99.9 percent certain that Altman is not gonna be the CEO who cracks it.
how to make everyone have the stuff billionaires have?
1. take the billionaires' stuff
2. divide it up among everyone
step 0 is left as an exercise to the reader
"We should encourage people to make tons of money and then also find ways to widely distribute wealth and share the compounding magic of capitalism,"
Either he is an idiot or a liar in that he cannot see the contratration of capital results in political capture by the capitalist class.
These billionaire tech-bros are all libertarians because they assume the world is best when they are completely unrestrained.
Their lack of self-awareness is precisely why we need governmental oversight & regulation.
"Why doesn't everyone go out and make a lot of money and then share it in a thoughtful way?" Good idea, Sam. Why don't you set an example. I'm sure the people emptying your wastebaskets at night will be taking notes.
Dems must start work now on controlling AI so that it cannot interfere in our politics the way social media does.
It must not be allowed to disseminate false data/disinformation.
AI tools use social media info to answer questions, like Musk's Grok on X where Musk supports disinformation.
Politically homeless means maga. He’s maga …. Until the political wins definitively shift. But until then he may not post maga but he’s definitely making maga 💰 contributions
Democrats let the tech bros do literally whatever TF they wanted for decades.
Then, when it became clear they couldn’t be trusted to self-regulate as they promised and rules had to be implemented they bit the hand that fed them and defected to the most malevolent GOP ever.
Fuck Sam Altman.
Didn't this piece of shit initially do Open AI as a public benefit corporation, but then later changed it to a for-profit corporation? Artificial intelligence is both the product *and* the maker.
So let's see if I have this right.
He's complaining because of ONE politician said something that injured his ego.
Sounds like he's just another billionaire that does want to pay taxes.
How bout you go back to your office and innovate.
He's in a different room than the rest of us. He spends his days with silicon valley douche bags who wear blazers with ironed Banana Republic jeans but sneakers so they don't look uptight. His room is a sycophantic bubble of wealth.
Altman is a great argument for capping personal wealth at $1 billion or less. That way, we don’t have to listen to such nonsense. He’d just be another well-off idiot.
He's either talking about hyperinflation or he's even dumber than I thought. It's not possible for everyone to be billionaires because the draconic hoards of business monsters limit how much gold there can be circulating in the game world at any one time.
Eventually the game world will spawn mission giving foozles, who send tax cavaliers to suppress the dragons. It may also randomly spawn rogues to steal from that horde, or vandals to put pressure on local infrastructure that the business monster relies on.
*By "entrepreneurship" he means scamming people into investing into a massive bubble of a tech fantasy that no one can deliver. And by "innovation" he means, if he could deliver it would lead to massive unemployment, lower wages, and destitution around the world.
Folks like this want to be small r racists, not big R racists who run the party today.
They want special treatment instead of being equal in the eyes of the law.
And they don't want to pay taxes bc that's their money, dangnabbit, and they know how to use it better than the gubmint.
Sam thinks it’s the “stuff” billionaires have that people want. No sir, it’s the power, political and otherwise that comes along with those billions of dollars. That’s what we’re all fucking sick of.
Every other week with this guy. “Please regulate ai(kneecap my competition), lol jk, I made a marketing splash on an ai wearable, nothing to worry about. Oops, didnt work out. Guess I’m politically homeless now because I’m not sure which money spigot I need at this exact moment.”
"'We should encourage people to make tons of money and then also find ways to widely distribute wealth and share the compounding magic of capitalism,' [Altman] wrote."
There's a difference between being gainful/productive/profitable and being obscenely greedy.
Billionaires should be taxed on their net worth, they shouldn't get tax expenditures (deductions, exemptions, and preferential rates), and their kids should get $10 million each with the rest going to the Social Security Trust Fund.
That would be great if billionaires were helping to fund programs and initiatives that would uplift people and give them opportunities. Instead, we are taking away education, food security and healthcare from those that need it most to give tax breaks to billionaires.
BILLIONAIRES have a right to exist, but I don't believe the federal government should help them pad their coffers at the expense of every other person in the US. OF COURSE, that is just an opinion.
Tech bros on a mission to destroy the country that allowed them to become billionaires. How much more could you possibly want when you have everything you could possibly need for 100 generations?
We need an economic revolution, based on a reimagination of what we can achieve with Co-operative enterprises in the internet age. One that builds sustainability while fighting oligarchy and proliferating economic democracy.
Perhaps people wouldn’t be against billionaires like Altman, Thiel, Musk etc if those guys didn’t think they have a right to rule over the rest of us, either directly or through controlling policy. We all want what billionaires have? Callous, arrogant, disconnected? Hardly.
No no no let’s hear from one of history’s great men tell us untermenschen why they’re a superior form of life who not only deserve all the worlds wealth but also total control over the rest of us.
Cause, ya know, they helped invented a fucking app.
We get it, democrats threaten your way of life because they think that maybe after a billion in net worth you should step up a little more to help society… We get it that, having re-read Ayn Rand in your adulthood, you find this appalling.
How about growing up a little bit instead of blaming Dems?
I mean, having my own space rocket would be cool and all, but I would settle for having food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, childcare, education, enjoyable employment, entertainment, and a vacation now and then.
Yes, affordable shelter would be great. Off course Altman never has to worry about that. So, not having to worry about affordable housing, yes who wouldn’t want that. Dumba—
I just read his official pitch deck to Australia which is essentially the government should help imbed his company in society and any services they provide (pay for) like ed and health. FOR PROSPERITY. I imagine a similar document is floating around my country. I want to scream.
Oh, Sam.
What Mr. Mamdani was saying is that billionaires should pay their fair share of taxes and - as you yourself say - widely distribute those gains afforded to you by capitalism. Instead, many billionaires pay near 0 in taxes.
You’re not politically homeless, you’re politically clueless.
His right wing 'magical thinking' based on the 'Trickle down economics'.
Unfortunately the old human frailty - GREED - is too often a feature of the rich. They are NOT interested in spreading their wealth - but accumulating more for themselves.
Exhibit - the horrendous DT bill just passed.
Democrats are not lining up behind meme coins, toxic AI data theft and phone based gambling at a rate Sam Altman finds acceptable. Is this an endorsement?
Pretty sure he's psychologically incapable of that. He seems firmly convinced his every thought needs to be made public -- and he's got compliant journalists ready and able to give him a microphone.
Also I never know what the fuck these douches are talking about, it’s like, “You don’t let us do whatever we want with zero regulations even though we all got ungodly wealthy under your competent and fair Administrations, so you’ve given us no choice but to support fascists and white supremacists.”
Rule of thumb: anyone with "politically homeless" in their bio not only has a political home, but a twelve-storey political home with a magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24-hour porterage, and an enormous sign on the roof, saying "This Is My Political Home"
Fuck Sam Altman. Better to be “politically homeless” and disillusioned by Democrats who consider the existence of billionaires immoral than to actually be homeless. Get real, asshole. You sound like a whiny little bitch.
