On Sunday, parents across the five boroughs got a night to themselves while NY's Cutest enjoyed free activities with NYC Parks staff at select recreation centers. Free & accessible child care doesn’t just make our city more affordable — it gives parents time to rest, recharge, or enjoy a night out.

This past weekend, New York City launched its first Parents’ Night Out, a new initiative by Mayor Zohran Mamdani to give families four hours of free babysitting. It was a hit.

The ultimate UX upgrade: treating childcare as essential infrastructure rather than a luxury subscription service. Now if we could just apply that same logic to the MTA.

How nice. Let’s hope they don’t need EMS. You raised the cost of ambulance care, have not made a valid offer to the union, are making them work with out a contract, pay them less than door dash workers, and can’t understand why over 1,000 providers are leaving causing longer response times.

AND what ELSE is great about that program? It allows some parents to enjoy a quiet dinner out, thereby generating extra income for local restaurants. = A "full circle" investment in the local economy = a gift that keeps on giving! Just brilliant, Mamdani & team - may other cities follow. 😘🫡😎

I was wondering if his team is tracking the effect on local restaurants and businesses, and if restaurant owners are taking advantage by offering “Parents Nite Out” specials

Every Mayor in every city across the US should start taking notes because Zohran keeps showing the citizens of NYC how governments can work for the people everyday and sometimes in ways they didn’t know they needed. The bar has been set America!! Great Job Mr. Mayor!!

what a great idea! I think childcare and recreation opportunities are just infrastructure like a street or fireservice. Everyone pays through taxes, everyone benefits! I remember being a parent of young kids and getting some child free time in was a rare and wonderful thing.

None of us want to be unable to meet our own basic needs, be they shelter, sustenance, health, or holiday. The Epstein class are too greedy to grasp this reality but would do well to remember what has happened to all others in history who thought they could ignore it.

Well that’s brilliant. Now those parents can spend money in local businesses going to dinner, seeing a movie, doing a little shopping and help the local economy! How capitalist of you!

Speaking from the experience of being a parent, they might just go take a nap and be thrilled! They might go for a run, bike ride or a romantic walk in that fantastic city.

damn the 'no can do' hate you esp. on SM. Sadly hough a City Island 'clamdigger' yep born in back of uncle's truck lasted 65 years but priced out. Win lotto? Yes 'I can go home again' parents, friends, legacy all in Pelham Cemetery overlooking water & Hart Island shh couple dogs buried in the yard

Hussan hussan killed by obimas strike team, none of the highjackers survived ramming the trains into the towers and the ones that died when the passengers fought back so yes theyre all dead not every Muslim is involved

Much better use of the city's funds than adding additional police officers who may not be needed if the children learn to live together, peacefully, and that they share lots of activities and interests!

I think this is great. Parents can actually talk to each other, spend some money into the economy and the kids get to make friends and build a community that cares about each other and will stand together. Making the future great.

Reminds me of hanging out playing sports and games at the YMCAs etc back in the 70s, when kids had far more options of all kinds of things to do and parents didn't have to be so frightened for their safety until curfew. You could be out all over town or countryside without adults if you wanted to.

Conservatives want families to stay together. Healthy relationships need down time where people can enjoy each other’s company without kids. Single parents can maintain supportive friendships. Looks like NYC mayor Mamdani is helping to keep NYC families strong.🎉👏
