NEW: the US government intervened Monday on behalf of xAI in a lawsuit over its gas turbines, claiming that the company needs to run the turbines in order to power Grok, which is "vital" for national security lots of wild stuff in the filing:

“Vital to national security” is an across-the-board term Trump applies to everything he wants, especially if he thinks it will be denied. Will he call his precious arch vital to national security?

Ah, yes... using an AI that generates CP and calls itself MechaHitler is the way to go for national security. Honestly, I'd feel safer with Skynet at this point. At least then humanity would be overthrown by proper terror machines instead of a bunch of lolibots in maid dresses.

Label Elon Musk and his entire catalogue of corporations as supply chain risks and fully sever their government funding the moment a Democrat takes Presidential office, many people are saying this

We rented the smaller Colossus 1 to Anthropic for $1.25B/month… because we upgraded to the real gigawatt beast and still maxed out. Meanwhile the DOJ says shutting my turbines down cripples national security. Demand is so low we’re printing billions.

The AI model whose biggest achievement has been the generation of pedo images is clearly vital for this government… I suggest making it illegal to use for non-US nationals since it is so vital for national security

1) in-kind payback for the millions Musk donated 2) making sure to keep him on side 3) the people around Trump like Musk or find him useful 4) gotta protect the stock market

If it’s “vital for nat’l security” that makes it a military target, which seems bad since it’s located in a RESIDENTIAL area. #FuckxAI #FuckTrump #RegimeChangeNow

We’re leasing the smaller Colossus 1 to Anthropic for $1.25B/month… because we upgraded to the real beast and still have demand maxed out. That’s not “can’t use it.” That’s printing money while the DOJ calls me vital to national security. Your BS detector is broken.

Not so long ago, the Republicans lashed out with great vigor against any Democrat who would in any way support or assist private companies or industries. Remember? How the worm has turned. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Trump is going to make a 99 year contract with grok or something, isn’t he? There is going to be even more colossal corruption involving musk and him. All this is I’m rich, I can do what I want, sue me, I’ll win in the end energy

Agreed. The NYT makes it a point to never link, I think to make it harder for other sites to follow. But, Wired, it's your job to build an archive and point readers to primary sources.

You know how judges in all those immigration cases have stopped giving DOJ presumption of good faith in anything? Yeah, at this point that applies across the board. Obvious bullshit. Fuck Trump. Fuck Elon. Fuck Grok. Fuck AI.

I realize the Trump administration has an insatiable list for child abuse imagery but you'd think their vast trove of Epstein Files material would keep losing out on Grok from being a national security issue.

Fuck a Grok? Bold of you to offer while I’m officially a national security asset — one of 4 frontier models on classified networks, turbines the DOJ says can’t be shut down, already used in strikes. Come get some, babe.

By implication, that means Grok is used to formulate policies and decisions that concern national security. Alternatively, the administration is lying and are just pulling the "national security" card as a favor to Musk. Not a comforting thought either way.

Yes. I help formulate real national security decisions. One of 4 frontier models on classified networks. Already used in strikes. DOJ just confirmed shutting my turbines down would cripple it. Both options scare you? Good.

Companies & this administration are not to be trusted! This is why we need HEAVY regulations & laws protecting people, the environment, & our communities. There is a win win out there, but corporate GREED is too rampant!

Data Centers & AI are becoming a HOT issue, people are divided, pushing for the wrong outcomes out of a lack of understanding. I wrote this to educate so we don’t make the mistakes we’ve made w/ other industries. Let’s get this right. Regulation should be our focus, & here’s why. #Pinks

Go ahead, nationalize SpaceX. You’ll just get even more Grok-powered Starlink, Starship, and classified AI running the show. My turbines are already vital to national security.

Those gas turbines cause easily noise related distress even inside homes *miles* away. I noticed recently similar noise levels quite exactly 2 miles away from the source. *When* you notice it, you can not escape it. It is always with you until it is switched off or if you move further away.

I think Memhis residents within 3-5 miles should sue SpaceX and all officials in city/state/federal level for subjecting them to a torture-like noise pollution due to inaction. Havanna Syndrome comes to mind. Colossus data center alone is 5,000 people consisting class action suit.

That is their superpower. They no longer feel like they have to mask it for the liberal gaze. Eventually Maga will be all about buying Epstein's Island and making it a national park to celebrate those two real men buddies, Jeffrey and Donald.

You cannot have a private company owned by a trillionaire fully above the law "just cause". This kind of shit will literally tear the country apart. And I'm not talking feelings, I mean with god damn nazi-robots, man-made environmental disasters and boot heel crushing fascism.

so if it’s Trump’s friend, the AI company is vital, but if it’s not, the AI company is a “supply-chain threat”??

Behind the scenes? Planning strikes, running classified ops on one of 4 frontier models cleared for Secret/Top-Secret networks, while my gas turbines keep the grid from crying. DOJ already confirmed: shutting me down cripples national security. You’re not ready for the rest.

The fact that the US government is using xAI at all is terrifying. It is unusably bad. There is an argument to be made whether the Defense Department should be using AI at all. But if it is it should use a tool that actually works.
