I was sent home from the ER twice in one week for excessive bleeding, until I literally fainted in the waiting room on the third visit because I was anemic. ER doc tried AGAIN to send me home until he saw my blood count. Got a transfusion a couple hours later. Yay womanhood!

I love when they mansplain periods, like “ It’s only a couple tablespoons of blood”. I once covered the entire floor of a communal shower room with my period!!!

An ER doc advised my sister to go home & not take up a hospital bed that someone might “really”need when she had excruciating abdominal pain. She insisted. Good thing. She had stage 1 colon cancer that was blocking her intestine. No one knows their body better than the person who owns it.

JFC it's about 30 years too late. Women have complained about this FOR DECADES. Doctors, even female ones, always dismiss women's pain. I had a uterine biopsy at my OB/GYN's office, no pain-blocking, INTENSE pain. Nurse told me to be quiet because I was scaring the patients in the other room. 😡

💯. When I was going into shock, having been unprepared for how painful this is, the nurse laughed and said "feels like labor, right?" Completely unbelievable. Men would never be expected to endure something comparable without significant pain management.

I am so sorry you went through that. My doctor was very candid about the pain; it was my third one (over the course of a couple decades) so I knew what was about to happen.

I screamed the whole time. When it was over, I apologized, and she was like, scream away, the pain is real. We're the ones who need to apologize to you. It's one of the worst parts of her job, and she was just thankful I didn't kick her in the face.

i googled "hysterosalpingogram" before getting one...my dr didn't say anything about pain, but damned if reddit and the mom chat boards didn't have the real info. ended up just walking out of the hospital instead. women have been "doing our own research" since forever bc science won't.

Of course they did. My mom had a tremendous amount of head pain, gall bladder which nearly killed her and was either over or under medicated. She couldn’t possibly have had pain like she said. 🥲 She died of a brain aneurysm in and I always wondered what would have happened if she been listened to.

My body parts are apparently at a slightly abnormal angle, so it took 3 doctors, an ultrasound machine, and 45 minutes to get the damned thing in. The entire process was painful. It got rid of my migraines, so it was worth it, but some Novocaine would have been nice.

Finally, a medical group that's on the same wavelength as our IUD-insertion-pain- sharing circle! Now, if only AI could hack into those pain-blocking treatments and make them even more efficient, we'd be golden.

In April 2024, I had an endometrial biopsy for uterine cancer. It was more painful than childbirth, so I made them stop. I had to wait much longer for an appointment to have it done under general anesthesia. When they performed the procedure, they also removed a lesion.

When I came round in recovery, my bed, gown, and pad were soaked with blood. My recovery from the procedure took months longer, and I didn't stop bleeding until almost four months after the procedure. How anyone could consider doing this without general anaesthetic is barbaric.

I drove 3 hrs to get my IUD. Was never offered numbing and was not warned my body could reject it. Crippling pain. I couldn't focus on driving and quickly returned to the office, but they were dismissive and told me I had to go to my regular gynecologist to have it removed. Longest drive home ever.

Medical misogyny kills women everyday by gaslighting women about our own pain and lives experiences. We are still very much behind in medical equality, let along treatment for pain management.

"Standard and accepted practice is to not spare the inventory, but some critics say women are people now" type headline. Got the politics writers doing healthcare headlines these days?

To everyone getting an IUD: ask for local. For some reason doctors don't offer you local right off the bat, but if you ask for it, the doctor will use it. Naturally, I didn't find this out from a doctor, but from a coworker who had already gone through the process

At my obgyn's office they put all IUD procedures in the end room so the swearing wouldn't disturb other patients. When I broke my back/hand/foot i rated the pain a "6". IUD was worse. My Australian friend is HORRIFIED we don't get numbed. Apparently they do elsewhere, just not in US

I've had it with a cervical block and without. The injection hurt like the dickens, and didn't reduce the pain as much as you'd think. I'm really intrigue by the lidocaine spray, even if it's to make the injections for the block less painful. Every option they have now is barbarous.

Wait, so does that mean you're finally listening to us when we tell you that these things hurt and we would like some pain relief? You're finally listening to us when we're telling you about our own valid experiences.

I had a cervical biopsy once, and when I complained, the male doc said, "It can't be that bad." I told him to give me the snippers and drop trou, "Let's see how a tiny snip to your scrotum feels!"

Funny enough, they actually did mention that to me. At the same time they said "but you're fine to go back to work after". Sir, I have endo. Nothing is that predictable!

My daughter just had a procedure yesterday. The provider did not offer her any form of pain management and when she asked, they said they “weren’t set up for this yet.”

🙄 I had a cervical biopsy, where they took three chunks out of my cervix, and I was told to take Tylenol. Most painful experience of my life. For too long, they have loved torturing women while coddling men. They never listened to women & had the AUDACITY to claim the cervix has no nerve endings!!

Women's pain should be treated? Had post c-section cellulitis, 2 male Dr's debriding my incision. No pain meds. I yelped in pain. One of them asked me if it hurt. I grabbed his balls and squeezed, asked him if that hurt. That's when they administered a local.

I’m terrified of anything obgyn after a uterine biopsy w no pain control. No lidocaine. Only Tylenol. She had to repeat the procedure bec my lump of flesh was stuck in the first stabby stick. Dr wanted to do another biopsy after a month. No pain management for the next one so I said no. I can’t.

I had a very painful and intrusive uerine biopsy and they refused to give me pain meds and I will NEVER undergo anything like that again. I reported it all to Kaiser and they bent over backwards to avoid my suing them with all sorts of apologies. But that doesn't help the trauma.

Wait, women have nerve endings and their pain is real?! I was told to take a preemptive ibuprofen for a Skyla. I have a high pain threshold, but DAMN. It felt like getting stabbed from the inside. I had to curl up in a ball for about 10 minutes afterward. Then heating pads for the rest of the day.

It's disgusting that this is even news. It's just an indication as to how normal it is to treat women as lesser. For the moment, in this one instance, we are going to listen to women and treat them with care, and that makes a national, highly reputable news platform.

I had a LEEP at 17. Went completely alone bc no one warned me about what was going to happen and how awful and extraordinarily painful it was. It was also the last male doctor I went to. I'm 46 and still have unbelievable trauma from that experience. And I've had 4 kids naturally.

Excellent read on the medical professions enduring resistance to actually listen to what women say about their own bodies: All in Her Head, by Elizabrth Comen, MD. Informative, with a little bit of dark humor. And she says dick a lot. bookshop.org/p/books/all-...

Mine refused to attempt it. Not because of the potential pain but because he was afraid of something going wrong with my brain anyerism and potential liability. My BMC neurosurgery team referred me into the gyn clinic and they just did conscious sedation, easy peasy.

Pain is subjective but should never be ignored. For the person who said, "It's not that bad" - that's your experience. If someone else needs pain relief, why shouldn’t they have it?

After only being given an ibuprofen for my first insertion, I came prepared for my second by taking an aspirin, an ibuprofen, a pint of beer, half a bottle of wine, and a shot of rum. I showed up completely drunk but hid it enough to get through it. No this isn't an exaggeration. Barbaric.

I just had this conversation with my gynecologist at a large cancer hospital, about why there is inadequate pain control for uterine procedures. The lidocaine spray is intriguing, but the issue of lidocaine "slow reactors" isn't mentioned.

My dentist was the one who told me to let other providers know, "twice as much, twice as long". Apparently I have the legendary red-head gene, and no, you don't have to have red hair to have it.

I was given a nerve blocker for my IUD insertion that had something like a 50/50 chance of working. It most definitely did not work, and it was the most painful physical experience of my life.

I am probably in the minority in this thread, but I didn't feel much pain during my (umedicated) IUD insertions and removals, and I also gave birth without medication two out of three times. However, I was offered anesthesia in most of those situations, and I think all women should be.

I just had a polyp removed from my uterus. They injected my cervix 8 times with lidocaine. Some of the worst pain I've ever had in my life. There are so many things that they could have done to stop the pain. Female dr. She said the first shot was going to be spicy. Spicy? fuck me.

“Sedation and anti-anxiety medication are briefly mentioned in the recommendations, which note these options might be beneficial for certain patients, including adolescents or survivors of sexual trauma.” Or everyone. How about everyone? Vasectomy patients can get full sedation. I want that.

It really is amazing how the agents of something will be assholes and then wonder why people turn from it. Like if every MF who had a shirt of a band was a dickhead, is it any wonder people would avoid that band?

It's fucking 2025, this shouldn't be "growing recognition" it should be "universal acceptance" I had 2 IUDs and the insertions were the worst pain I've ever had (and I live with chronic pain). On one, I fainted and had to be observed for an hour. No pain treatment offered. Sick.
