In recent months, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy have all been photographed wearing shoes that look a half-size or so too large for them. It’s an affliction — and not one relegated to the Trump administration. nyti.ms/476cwGN

The New York Times will do ANYTHING, and I mean ANYTHING to gaslight us into believing complete nonsense that we all know to be false. When Trump forces his staff to wear clown shoes we're told it's a completely normal TREND. BS.

I can’t wait until Trump makes his whole Cabinet shit their pants and you have to scramble to find a viable “walking around with shit in your pants” trend to report on.

June 2026: "Emperor Trump's new streamlined, ultra-minimalist sartorial style has a lot of tongues wagging among his critics on the left. But maybe it's time we all took a long, hard look at whether clothing really is the necessity that we've been to believe it is."

From the picture they look like slightly less obvious platform shoes. The front area at the laces is too steep. The back has extra room so they look "normal" but allow the heel to sit when the foot is angled further upward than normal

so the story widely circulates that trump is buying these stupid shoes for the guys in his inner circle, presumably to try and normalise wearing lifts. And now the NYT is trying to claim that it's just a "guy thing" to shift the narrative away from this bizarre cult like nonsense. pathetic.

and here I thought you guys were just "boot-lickers"...I see you've moved up to grossly oversized Florsheim's. Also, you should cancel your NY Times subscription.

This is who the "NY Times" gives the fashion beat to? Tell Jacob Gallagher he can relax; there is no correlation between penis size and shoe size and he can buy clothes that fit since muscle size is also not correlated with penis size.

Same age. I also know that on the off chance a guy wants to buy another guy shoes he would find out his shoe size and not guess. And if the aforementioned shoes didn’t fit they wouldn’t walk around in them in a professional setting with cameras regularly everywhere.

Yikes! You guys have truly lost your fucking minds. Men buy shoes they think fit and are comfy. Like maybe 1% are awkwardly embarrassed at having small feet or something, but to allege this is anything other than Republican weirdos is very strange.

I'm sorry... You've taken an absurdity - Trump guessing shoe sizes of his officials and buying them shoes which they then feel obligated to wear - and normalized it by asking why "men" buy shoes that are too large? It's not "men." It's Trump sycophants too afraid to say anything to the Emperor.

Why would you go out of your way to even write this stupid article? Not only is it nonsense but it’s a clear attempt to cover for the administrations ridiculousness. It’s pathetic. You could have just said nothing you know?

Literally no one -- not even the people in this article -- bought shoes that are too big for them. It's a bunch of people too afraid to not wear the ill-fitting shoes given to them by a petty dictator.

Power dressing meets quiet insecurity: oversized shoes aren’t policy, but they signal something—image over substance. When leaders obsess over optics instead of outcomes, governance turns into performance, not service. Fit matters, in shoes and in office.

Since trump is a sinister nasty person - I am sure there is a trumpian hidden message in giving them big shoes. Perhaps, saying they could never be man enough to fill his shoes . . .

This is, absolutely, not a thing. Your article conflates discrepancies with dress shoe sizing vs. athletic shoe sizing as being the mad king's underling's wearing large shoes to please their master.

"Affliction" is absolutely the WRONG word and not what the author intended. This is clearly a mistake; odd for the NYT. Perhaps they meant "affectation", and were subverted by some kind of auto-correct, but it is hard to guess. Maybe this whole stupid article is just an experiment in ai bullshit.

Lol, covering for all the Trump bootlickers I see. Typical New York Times also deep throating for this administration. The person who wrote this is probably wearing a pair of shoes Trump bought them and are too pussy to take off too

I know the NYT has been bullshit at least since Trump came down the escalator, but this? This feels like they've reached a new level. How does anyone manage to type this without their major intestine leaping up through their neck and throttling their brain to stop them?

The geniuses at New York Times: "We've observed a rapidly growing pattern of men wearing overly large shoes: What could be the cause of this popular new trend that is captivating corporate America?"

LOL! I was asked if the photo on that post was supposed to represent the "men wearing overly large shoes" or the "geniuses at New York Times": I'll let you decide! 😂😂

lol why are you generalizing from trump’s MAGA flunkies and trying to sane-wash this? All of the men I know wear shoes that actually fit them. Shoes that don’t fit are actually really painful to wear.

Hey NYT, I think y'all misdiagnosed the issue, ignoring that those guys were wearing too-big shoes that Trump sent, and those guys are too chicken-shit to wear shoes that fit around him instead of the must-please-Master shoes.

JFC, @nytimes.com it absolutely IS a Trump Administration thing. MEN don't buy shoes too big. Not like that. Sometimes wide isn't available so you buy regular a 1/2 size up. That's just to fit. Only spineless chumps like Rubio, Vance et. al wear clown shoes cuz daddy gave em to them.

Did Big Shoe write this? A half-size is when it's a little loose. The picture is what it looks like when a man who wears 8s is trying on 11s from the budget rack.

Apparently the orange pedo likes to guess the shoe size in his subordinates and then buy them shoes in that size. Since they’re all losers they wear the shoes to please Dear Leader.

You’re really trying to claim that shoes that are a HALF SIZE TOO BIG LEAVE AN INCH GAP BETWEEN THE FUCKING SHOE AND THE HEEL? One of 2 things is true. A. The New York Times doesn’t understand how shoes work B. The New York Times is a propagandist rag that doesn’t deserve to collect puppy shit

More boot to lick, yeah? Man, if we didn't already know this rag will launder whatever shit comes out of this White house, we do now.

There's a great story about clothes and a ruler you should read. A Danish guy wrote it. Then you wouldn't have published this utterly embarrassing commentary on the stupendous cloth of gold.

I am going to assume from this that Sulzberger has insisted that male reporters at the NY Times wear the same shoes—and not only has he chosen which shoes, but he’s ordered ill -fitting pairs for them, which they have no real choice but to wear….even though it’s humiliating.

Oh, the fact that the U.S. President requires them to wear matching shoes and ordered shoes for them/-but didn’t even bother to get a variety of sizes to make sure they’d fit--is most DEFINITELY an affliction unique to the Trump administration. Despite NYT’s attempts to normalize: it.
