I’m opening a movie theater in which I show recently released films that I ripped from the internet but the studios are welcome to opt out if they wish.

Exclusive: OpenAI is planning to release a new version of its Sora video generator, which creates videos featuring copyrighted material unless copyright holders opt out of having their work appear.

Excellent point. What really worries me about this situation is the big studios have plenty of money for Lawyers to crawl the web looking for things to opt out of but independent producers will not be able to keep up with this if it becomes a trend. Class action is the only solution.

Will assume their consent is implied unless they show a telegram signed by Queen Victoria and Pope Urban (and endorsed by all the supreme courts on the planet) saying they do not agree.

It seems like you could train an AI on their films and then ask it to spit out an exact duplicate that isn't subject to copyright (AI works can't be copyrighted.) If your training data is just the one film, the will be no differences! Fair use, am I right?

They're gonna get the shit sued out of them by Hollywood. They've managed to get by with stealing people's writing but they aren't going to get away with stealing Disney, or Paramount, or anyone else's IP from the entertainment world. Those companies have the money to take them on.

It is such a weird business strategy. Each new model cost more than the last one, the improvements are lower each time and every new customer they get cost them more than they can every possibly hope to make back. This bubble is going to sink nation states when it happens.

Yeah but everyone spent so much money on a non viable technology (LLM's) that they are all, all-in. If(when) the bubble bursts, it's going to be trillions of dollars that are going to disappear. In today's econonmy, it's going to be very ugly.

Anytime anyone wants to yell at me about how socialists want to ban private property, I’m just going point out that AI fanboys already think property rights don’t exist. So, yeah. Holy hand grenades.😒

I remember early Internet arguments about “fair use” of short clips of copyrighted material in creative performances. AI has stolen everything, thrown it into a blender, serves the AI slop back and charges for it.

Let me know how many pre-emptive letters you get from studio's attorneys, just based on one inoffensive tiny post. (My guess, greater than zero. If you were still at WaPo, more than 5)

How long do you think this'll last before too many people opt-out and they have to come up with an excuse as to why they're ignoring artist's requests?

OpenAI will pay me a lifelong monthly €5000,- stipend, tax free, without any obligations on my part, unless they opt out by their CEO personally handing me a handwritten op-out letter within 48 hours.

This is what traveling in the developing world was roughly 2005-10, and it made Hollywood furious. Hostels, hotels, bus lines, air lines, all pirated. And here the AI crew are just bragging about it in the open.
