I get that rules about manners are classist and stodgy but if you are wearing a baseball cap in a nice restaurant, you’re a dope.

I agree wearing a baseball cap in a restaurant is just being Dopey, but they might be socially Bashful or too Sleepy to take it off. If you ask them to remove it and they get Grumpy, they should see a mental health Doc. A medical one if they're Sneezy. Anyway, I'm Happy you went out to eat. 😁

People do have skin conditions that they may want to hide, scarring, eczema, psoriasis, alopecia and so forth. While the baseball cap may not be the most sophisticated choice, it may reduce unwanted starring and actually reduce the “discomfort” of the other restaurant patrons.

Well, that's fair because it is an environment where you are entitled to have expectations in behavior. But in a public setting. Strangers do not need to comply with your irrational standards.

There's this NY food "influencer" who wears a stupid baseball cap into every restaurant he visits, no matter how elegant. It's a branding exercise, but sends a terrible message. The restaurants tolerate it because of the visibility and power of his platform.

It’s also stupid, because a critic should be relatively anonymous or at least unannounced. Who cares about the review of someone proudly announcing their intent to basically blackmail the restaurant into a positive review? Fuck “influencers”.

I find it infuriating. My son always wears a hat due to a bald spot, he’s still young enough to be a little self conscious, so I got him a couple of nice fedoras to replace the baseball cap, though I think even those shouldn’t be worn while fine dining, at least it’s a little better.

Of course, that goes without saying, even within families :) I remember my grandma had a pet peeve about not pouring your can of coke into a glass if you were sitting at the kitchen table. My dad would do it anyway, whether to tweak her or just out of stubbornness I never could tell lol

Good for your dad. My mom has gotten so backward that she wants me to wear only dresses. Which I don't comply with, but at this point, I do not even want to have any contact with her.

My Dad once explained to me that in the military, only those authorized to carry weapons, such as MPs, wear "covers" (hats) inside. To vets, wearing a hat indoors creates the appearance that are inappropriately trying to act "combat ready," or are just lazy.
