Thats because they are. The MN Fraternal Order of Police made a statement earlier saying exactly that. Cops will always side with ICE because they're the same.

If we are honest, police, like neo-Confederates, are a set of families that are determined to violently dominate other families. That framing may offer helpful insight. If some people in those families do not support all aspects of the dictatorship, maybe they need to network together and say so.

ICE and police are the same culture and the same families. I don't distinguish between ICE and 'real' police. They have the same ends and the same means. Saying "Aha but that is ICE and my family are with the Sheriffs Dept: TOTALLY different." Same body counts. Same lies. Same bosses. The Same.

It's as though the Minneapolis Police Department and those in charge really don't want ICE to disperse from the area which is the point of the protest. bsky.app/profile/star...

I can understand their fear , there are a lot of very upset people on the streets, that is dangerous. That said they should respect it and facilitate the protest , it will be worse if they give people more reason to distrust them.

A lot of reforms proposed in 2020 got sidetracked, but no city should have police with the authority to just "declare" something to be unlawful. If anything like that exists, it needs to come from civilian political leadership, to a judge in a court, then the police get specific orders.

It's not a bad idea ... protesting is important but emotions are so raw, this is in the interest of public safety. I'm also guessing that the police department is stretched to the max .... they need a break.

Where’s that fucking useless Regime pimping chief of police who crowed about protecting and serving the people yesterday. Oh yea, back in the Regimes side…. Again.

Does the Governor, elected representatives of MN not control the police? As a non-Smerican this always confuses me. The Gov and other senators and such from MN are in support of the protest, the police are not. Who controls the state police in US?

In most cities they control themselves as a largely autonomous force. Laws only count as enforced, and the appearance that they aren't autonomous is mostly maintained by a careful agreement by mayors to not ask them to do anything they don't already want to.

The governor does oversee and appoint people to head the DPS, aka who oversees the state police or “state patrol”. It’s a branch of the DPS, but yeah, I don’t blame you for being confused because it’s confusing. When governors are against it and the head of the DPS apparently isn’t, there’s a prob

Thanks. But, even your mayor is publicly against ICE, thus he should be pro-protest. So the DPS can go against the state's Governor and the city's mayor and declare his own political stance? Either of them cannot override this order?

Ok. Maybe that was too harsh But you really really missed the point here and called me a spammer bc you think I think mayors can call the chief of police and say “sir! Arrest these ppl!” Which, come on. So condescending, such a bad faith read of what I’m saying - it’s been a rough week igi. But FFS
