Oh My God! The stuff of nightmares. Bad enough that some train seats are configured like that, but on planes? No! Having just flown from Heathrow to Brisbane, via Singapore, a 24 hour journey. I'd absolutely refuse to use this seating idea! Fuck that. 🤮🤬🤦🏼♀️
Flew on SW for Gpa's funeral. Didn't know you "pick your own seat" as there was a number written on my ticket near where is said "seat". I proceeded to that seat and they guy said he was not moving and the only available seats was one that faced towards him from PDX to MDW. I wanted to die.
I think it would nice if this arrangement was available on a limited basis as I can see families booking it. The entire plane though, is a definite no.
I mean, if you're flying as a group of four I'd be fine with it, especially if you can change the positioning of the seats like you can with the seats on trains in Australia
Naked airlines would certainly speed up the painful part of security where everyone removes watches, belts, pocket change, phones, keys, coat, shoes then have to reassemble.
It would actually be safer if everybody woud sit backwards on planes as that way the seat could perfectly protect you in case of high g-values in a crash. It rarely happens that a plane is rear-ended.
Sat in bulkhead seat on Southwest flight, worst flight ever. Sitting directly it front of someone in a seat that didn't recline. Also, due to slight upward pitch of planes in flight and forward motion, felt like I was going to fall out of the seat.
I don't think there's going to be an issue during normal flight since speed changes are far less frequent and abrupt than on the ground.
But start/landing and any extraordinary motion is going to be a major pain.
Flew from LA to Vegas on a Southwest flight that the front row was like this. WAS SO WEIRD! More so when your opposite is also tall so it was 2 hours of knees touching no matter what you did.
No thanks!
Allow me to haunt you further. That drawing exists bc abolitionists couldn’t get slavery abolished and wanted to at least improve conditions on the ships. This was their proposal for improvement.
Facing to the rear is the most uncomfortable position flying in a plane I’ve ever been in
You feel like you wanna recline the entire time but there’s a force just pushing you off the seat slightly
Never again
I remember some having that configuration in the first row, but haven’t seen since the mid 90s. Not sure which jet it was. I know it was southwest though.
Forget the people, planes need to upgrade to more comfortable seating for people with back problems. Last flight left my lower back in a worse way than before I boarded.
one time i did the train from Paris to London and only seat i could get was this configuration. Although relatively short trip was horrible. Strangers staring directly at you while you eat/read/nap. plane the terrible amped up by 100
The passenger behind who puts his feet up on the arm rest ahead and crowds your space will, in the passenger facing configuration, put their feet up in your crotch. Something else to thank the great passenger service and comfort obsessed airlines.
They used to have tables in between. And they didn't put strangers in those seats I think they were used for families.
Now? Who knows. Taking off sitting backwards was fun.
I think Southwest used to have them? Took a couple of flights in high school for competitions and we'd get four of us able to play cards together during the flight (dating myself pre devices). It was great if you only used it for groups.
I pretty much only flew Eastern airlines between Charlotte and Tampa at the time. My mother would send us to my grandparents. Unaccompanied minors... in the 70s Lol
Trains (at least in my experience) tend to have a table or something beneath facing people; like, the same car will have one side facing the same way, or people facing each other (usually 2x2) with a table between them
Have you been on the London Underground, and some of the journeys can be quite long, such as Uxbridge to Baker Street, with people standing next to you in the aisle.
Got a train that does this. Its alright since they give you more space but its awkward when youre traveling alone and have to sit with a group thats not with you.
Oh FFS ?!
THAT has to be the
Airlines attempting to:
A) improve disease spread
B) eliminate passenger storage space
C) upsell "but 4 seats, get a bed"
D) cut back on expensive video screens
E) escalate customer anger
F) force women to face leering jackasses
G) All of the above
Some people would rather die than have to entertain a stranger on a plane. Me myself I like to chat it takes away my anxiety until the double whiskey kicks in. I do enjoy the look in the attendants faces when I ask for whiskey at daybreak lol they always swallow hard ❤️
Try reversing the seats ... you are much safe on landing accidents, as you don't get thrown forward. They are safer, but cost and weigh a little more. QF offers them on Dash 8-300s.
