We’re a small town. Many Portlanders recognize friends & loved ones in these vids of nonviolent protest, & many of us have been down there, singing, walking silently in prayer, & building an altar of flowers to the taken. It was the same with the 'red danger' and communism before, but worse. A country founded on oppression and white supremacy always had the danger of turning into this. Because at the base it was feeling better/killing the ones they saw as 'less' than them. Dehumanizing and destroying is part of it.

I saw the original caption on this video; it identified this unit as a search & rescue unit of national guard. These guys took an order to step BACK about 10 steps away from peaceful protesters. These guys do not want war. That unit is full of people who rescue people in disasters!

I ran the Portland Marathon years ago, and the best part: three guys that pulled an old, dirty upholstered couch out to the street, they were enjoying a few beers and making bedraggled runners happy. Mass crime? Only when the yarn store didn't have what I was looking for.

hey Christy, thanks for responding. Bizarre times for sure. Portland couldn’t be a nicer city. The reality is a lot of rural Oregon quite frankly is scary. When I was there, I was a rock climber with long hair and little round glasses and I got a lot of looks not in a good way. Take care.
