I'm always reminded of when Dominic Cummings got brought in and some Johnson stan said this is revolutionary, what we really need is a radical young guy shaking up all the suits at No.10 and I just posted this picture and got blocked

The UK already doesn't buy oil or gas from Russia or Iran. Opening Jackdaw will not stop other European countries – such as landlocked ones with Russian pipelines – buying from Russia. Other than that, great argument.

Everything Lindell does is an absolute train wreck. Here is the Zoom call he had, talking about Trump possibly coming to campaign in MN, and there is a guy above him actively chewing, zoomed in on his mouth. This is a freaking master's class of unintentional comedy.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Mike Lindell says he talked to Trump and Trump gave him the impression he's coming to Minnesota "once or twice before the election" for rallies (also get a load of the guy chewing on camera LMAO)

If I was a conservative, I'd be less concerned about liberal thought-control in universities and more concerned that educated people seem to have completely rejected my philosophy.

So from @andrewsparrowgdn.bsky.social's life blog, Zia Yusuf has said that "We’re not going to be sending people back to be tortured or killed." Which presumably needs a process for working out if that's going to happen to someone or not. Which starts to sound a bit like an asylum process?

There is 73% support in Britain for the principle of refugee protection - including in the UK - while 20% are opposed to this. The peak of support was 2022 at 80% (largely because the images from Ukraine had more impact than images from the Channel that year, though boats + migration were high)

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

All three Yandex AI supercomputers are reportedly offline: Galushkin in Vladimir, Chervonenkis and Lyapunov in Sasovo, whose data center shut down after the Oct 8 strike. Yandex Cloud outages also threaten thousands of Russian firms relying on it for websites, databases and payments 👏

The first Russian diesel cargo heading for the US left St Petersburg on September 22, two weeks *before* Trump announced the deal with Putin, Windward reports. The Greek-flagged tanker Minerva Zen carrying 275,000 barrels of diesel/gasoil is due at the US East Coast around 11–12 October.

Huge respect for Caroline Lucas this week, repeatedly standing up to antisemitic entryism while remaining staunchly critical of Israel and the government's failures on that front. You can see why she used to be leader

ZELENSKYY: At this very moment, when we are talking about peace, America gives Russia the opportunity to export diesel — that's millions, billions. It all goes toward the war against people, against Ukraine, against all of us.

The discourse on antisemitism in the country is such that Mike Rogers can simultaneously attack Abdul El-Sayed *as* antisemitic, as a scary foreign Muslim critic of Israel, and also *with* antisemitism, as a tool of the foreign-born Jewish puppeteer.

NEW: Kemi Badenoch’s flagship party conference policy document, The Right Way, overestimated the cost of net zero by nearly £500bn, seemingly after someone accidentally double-counted figures on a spreadsheet. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Don't know what's funnier, the Tories absolutely cannonball diving on trustworthiness on the economy, or the Greens no longer being seen as the most trustworthy on the environment and climate change

The Tories call them "savings". They are cuts. On BBC Radio 4's PM yesterday, Julia Lopez put the planned total at £71bn. Every £ is lost income, a lost service or a lost job. Let's look at who pays, who gets the tax cuts, and why it is fantasy economics. 🧵 #bbcwato #wato #PoliticsLive

Badenoch has spent half her conference making unfunded promises, and half lecturing the country on fiscal responsibility. We’re all still paying the price for Conservative financial mismanagement. Liberal Democrats will act as the firewall stopping her handing No 10 to Farage.

Ben reposted

This section about fiscal discipline would be a lot more convincing if they didn't keep announcing spending commitments funded by the same set of ruinous welfare cuts over and over again.

Ben reposted

Call me old-fashioned, but I just think that if you are announcing £10bn of spending, then if the Shadow Treasury team and the leader's office are doing their jobs properly, the leader should have clearer answers to these questions:

"I'm not a defence expert." Even by Kemi Badenoch's lamentable standards, this is agonising. Just give thanks she will never, ever be Prime Minister. 🙏 #politicslive

I cannot tell you how many times in the last year I have said to folks here: Politics changes very fast nowadays; do not pledge devotion from party to party easily; leave yourself the intellectual and emotional space to assess things in the round much closer to an election, armed with more data.

A common theme that drives me absolutely wild with elections/polling these days: 1. Right wing wrecks everything 2. Left of centre figure elected 3. Left of centre can’t fix all the damage in 5 seconds so the right wing, who have got 10x worse in the meantime, lead polls again/win next election
