You can always report potholes, problems, and yes – cracks – with the Find It, Fix It app. We caught up with @mayor.seattle.gov and SDOT Acting Director Angela Brady on 2nd Ave in downtown Seattle.

incredible barometer and sign of the times — also is impressive to see how quickly Bluesky has shifted to being more “pro-AI”… there’s still a lot of bad behavior from anti-AI folks on here, but it’s radically different than a year ago
The poll so far between Twitter, Bluesky and Mastodon. I think it looks less absurd than last time, but still pretty clear that the base is divided. bsky.app/profile/mits...

If you don't have time to do anything else, send this letter so that there's a record of support to offset the historic boards. admin.actionnetwork.org/letters/safety-first-means-giving-sdot-the-ability-to-act
Update: I was wrong, there will be a special council meeting on Monday to approve Saka's traffic safety bill and Bob Kettle will be putting forward an amendment to strip out the historic district provisions. Someone tipped off the preservation folks about this so they had more time to organize.

Every day the present becomes more like a Peter Watts novel. This week things are looking a lot more like Maelstrom https://x.com/IntCyberDigest/status/2098564982598209732

In Seattle, we use giant concrete panels that were put in place a hundred years ago. They are fundamentally indestructible and will outlive us all. No one knows what is under them. Ripping them up costs ten million dollars and requires sign-off from 60% of residents within a 2 mile radius
Workers constantly dig up and relay brick sidewalks and streets in the Netherlands. Water pipe break? Laying fiberoptic cables? The same team opens and closes the and does the work. This team is smoothing out a street that got uneven after 20 years. "It's normal maintenance, just sand below."

Need these here
At Doña Casilda Iturrizar Park in Bilbao, Spain 🇪🇸, they use a geodesic dome with a high performance textile membrane to shield a playground for children from the elements. The fabric helps to block rain and harsh UV light, while diffusing natural light to make a more comfortable environment.

Climate change denial takes many forms. Anger at rising insurance premiums is one of them.
A memo from senior insurance-industry officials warning that insurance modelers are being pressured to downplay climate in their models & that many insurers are already planning their exist from key markets. An explosive fuckup on the scale of the mortgage crisis is building.

I swear to god so much of this is literally just people confusing measles and chicken pox
Minnesota Republican state Sen. Bill Lieske: "Back in the day when the measles vaccine didn't exist, measles was a joke! ... yes, there are increases cases. How many of those are actually resulting in deaths? Are they just going home with the sniffles? Back in the day, people had measles parties."
Did he get his ballot before everyone else? I'm still waiting for ours to be sent.
The October morning sun is out and today is a great day to vote! One of the easiest calls on my whole ballot? NO on I-645 – NO cuts to education, NO cuts to health care, and NO tax cut for the top 1%. @no645.bsky.social

it's like if a space has ever been used for cars they think they have permanent "take-backs" we gotta find good ways to defend against that. perhaps in high profile cases like this (and pike place market) we gotta start physically transforming it asap: bollards, curbs, demolishing segments of road

Unfortunately, @transportation.seattle.gov needs to face up to the fact that, if it wants to achieve Vision Zero, we can't have multi-lane streets anymore. One in each direction, plus a bus lane, is the maximum that can be made safe.
