Microsoft literally told fragile white guys to use AI to compete with Black co-workers.

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

unbelievable how many developer-hours have been wasted over the years because json doesn't allow trailing commas

"Why won't you use AI?" I have stopped a nearly fully Copilot-generated PR with a custom JSON parser (in JavaScript) and a fully Copilot-generated PR with a custom parser for a very small subset of BASH (in BASH). Today. Both of those came across my screen *today*

Intent is an integral part of code. I write two kinds of PR comments: "do X instead, for reason A, B, and C" and "why?" That second type is useless in an AI-generated PR because there is no "why." No one has thought about the code, no one has decided to write it like this.

Did you intend to write half of the error logs to stdout and a log file and half to stderr? Did you intend to write a nearly identical code block in two separate files? Did you intend to mix async and sync filesystem calls? A computer doesn't have intentions therefore a computer mustn't write code.

"I've never been so productive before, you should try it!" Your productivity is destroying mine. AI-generated slop PRs are worse than those written by even the most junior of junior developers, for at least that junior developer has put thought in what they did—even if every line is wrong.

It is funny (in the joker way, as per usual) how so many people's lives were completely shattered over copyright trolling from companies who treated downloading a song as a capital offense but the moment they could make money on it themselves it instantly stopped being relevant

Darren Dahly@statsepi.bsky.social

They hounded Aaron Swartz to death for downloading papers from jstor but society is now supposed to just accept mass theft because this thing can write that TPS report *for* you. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_S...

Here's what I actually think these incidents reveal (instead of a rogue AI terminator situation): Much of the infra we expect to be hardened is actually being held together by glue and popsicle sticks.

Unless there's some way to estimate how much money we have to give to AI companies before they cure cancer, we should at least consider the possibility that the true sum is "more money than exists now and that will ever exist." 26/

You used to be able to google the time of the sunset, and Google would give you the exact time right on top every single time. Thankfully, with artificial intelligence, you can now ask Google what time the sun will set and it will conveniently tell you "I don't know."

one interesting thing so far about loudly hating AI is the way AI lovers are like "wow so you're just totally closed off to hearing another perspective??" as if their perspective hasn't been relentlessly pushed down our throats with no space to push back (particularly in professional settings)

Google is transforming Search from a list of links into an AI-powered experience filled with conversational answers, autonomous agents, and interactive interfaces — a shift that could further reduce traffic to publishers across the web.

watching the tech industry burn out all the people i know who actually care about delivering things that aren’t perpetually broken, all at the altar of infinite velocity, is making me utterly utterly furious.

Interesting isn't it, that homosexuality (for men at least) is seen as unacceptable by the Evangelicals because it's forbidden in Leviticus. But then so are cheeseburgers.

I appreciated this article by Michael Taggart, on the temptation to use some of these coding tools and the pitfalls, from the POV of an experienced software engineer. This is why it's important to fight these issues collectively rather than at the individual level. taggart-tech.com/reckoning/

taggart-tech.comI used AI. It worked. I hated it.I used Claude Code to build a tool I needed. It worked great, but I was miserable. I need to reckon with what it means.

The cool folks from the Eurosky team just brought you a new site: eurosky.tech, portal to the Atmosphere. I'd say it's the crispest explanation so far of what the Atmosphere brings: 1. one account 2. that works with a bunch of apps, and 3. your data from all apps is yours, portable, interoperable.

I’ve never used any of the LLM chatbots, avoided them even in the early days, because they had all the hallmarks of a major cognitive and psychological hazard from the very beginning “I’m not gonna use this shit unless I can be sure it won’t mess me or others up” is an entirely reasonable position
