“Why shouldn’t I custom-generate all of my child’s media?” Because the point of children’s literature, music, art, and movies is not to optimize leisure time, it is to provide your children with cultural, emotional, societal, and epistemic touch points via which they can relate to the wider world.

Do not use AI to generate little bespoke stories for your children every night

The DfT just posted this self-congratulatory propaganda on Facebook. This is horseshit. Battery trains have a very minor role to play as a transition technology, but in the foothills of a seismic energy crisis, swapping one form of energy dependency for another is crap politics and worse planning.

For some it’s a lifeline. For others (like me), it’s guidance. For others, it’s the availability of options. Refusing a diagnosis is a violation of the right to health - ADHD remains a disability, with all the personal and societal consequences it holds. This is not just appalling - it’s dangerous

Dan Sohege@danielsohege.bsky.social

A formal diagnosis can help some people, it doesn't help everyone though. Restricting the ability to get diagnosed though is disgusting. It is all part of this ongoing trend of trying to deny support for neurodivergent individuals and act like we don't exist. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Heard a BBC vox pop (truly the bottom feeding of broadcast journalism) complain that the RNLI might not be able to get to ‘genuine people’ because they were busy rescuing from small boats. ‘GENUINE PEOPLE’. Imagine being that level of soulless d**k.

Hot Take Saturday: I think we are on the cusp of a MASSIVE humanities revival. I’m talking handmade, craftsmanship, maximalism, art collection for everyday folks, rich music, unfettered written masterpieces, deep thought experiments…all in rejection of AI and our corporate overlords.

This is cool as hell.

This is bracing, remarkable reading by Will Self about Jason Arday, naming names in blistering terms, including several prominent TERFs who joined the kicking of Arday. May Kathleen Stock and Sarah Ditum and everyone else involved never live this down.

I have to say: “it is the sacred duty of the British press to expose liars and bullshitters defrauding the public” is one of the best and most insulting gambits yet.

This is fully deranged. Columnists reference Nineteen Eighty-Four all the time but this is Brave New World-esque; sorting children definitively into categories before we’ve even tried to give them a better chance.

that is in fact literally in the bible. it's Matthew 6:5.

I mean, it does look like America has demanded an explicit figure in military spending - most of it, I’d assume, from US arms companies - with threats of what will happen if we don’t pony up, doesn’t it. If it isn’t that, then it’s weird how much it looks like it.

I think we are going to need to talk more securing the public (esp. kids') access to grounded facts, given that our govts & big tech: – replaced web search with generated fiction – block kids from talking to other people online – are replacing teachers with 'ai' – are shredding &defunding libraries

Starmer having won a landslide on 33.7% of a 59% turnout isn't the defence you think it is Starmer lads. It's a deep criticism of a broken electoral system that Starmer has failed to address. A loveless landslide should not even be possible.

Here’s what this government extremism tsar considers to be extreme, by the way. Ask yourself: how exactly did almost every post for ensuring equality or tackling extremism come to be filled with absolutely roaring wingnut cranks? Did that happen by accident, are they still there due to an oversight.

This episode of "Today" desperately needs a historian of policing, to explain why things like anti-racism training were introduced in the first place. This wasn't some departure from a world in which the police treated everyone the same. It was an attempt to bring that world fractionally closer.

Oh wow, well, that is certainly very fortunate timing, isn’t it. And oh look, who does that nice lady Laura work for? I’m sure nothing has been storyboarded and choreographed, and the stars have simply aligned this week by natural means, like an eclipse or a meteor shower.

flyingrodent@flyingrodent.bsky.social

Oh no, how unfortunate to see these definitely not planned and closely choreographed events
