One thing I've learned in life is that whenever someone says "What you have to understand about [some group] is that they're [some description]," the description always applies to all humans everywhere. This from the WSJ is a real classic of this genre: wsj.com/opinion/reve...

If I went to Switzerland and won a Swiss watch precision contest, I would literally never talk about anything else

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com

I went to Geneva a few weeks ago and spoke on a panel about the nature of time for a Geneva Watch Days event. While I was there, on a lark, I entered a competition to most precisely calibrate a Swiss watch. And today I found out that I won! 😃 www.instagram.com/reel/Dd6hUTB...

Neither of those examples are fussy! The pantyhose example might legally be sexual harassment. The lighting a cigarette example should have the reaction of, "what the fuck are you doing. Get the fuck out"

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Is asking someone to leave the beverages at home for an interview as fussy as reminding a lady to wear pantyhose or a gentleman to ask before lighting a cigarette? We assembled a team of Post staffers across the newsroom — and commenters — to find out: https://wapo.st/4dwx0LS

NYT has now independently corroborated all the major allegations against Susan Collins in the ProPublica report, including that investigators were prepared to move against her and then Trump intervened to shut it down. This put Trump in a position of exceptional and extortionate leverage over her.

I’m a Texan trans kid who almost died because of Ken Paxton. The world should know what he’s done. This was very difficult for me to write, but given what's at stake, I cannot bear to stay silent about what I went through at Paxton's hands. He must not be rewarded for what he's done to trans kids.

They made 50 of these Black Lance uniforms for a single scene in Wing Commander IV. One of the producers commented at the time that they would have to destroy them afterwards, lest they end up instantly equipping an entire hate group.

The only way to make this better is, in the off chance the meter reaches ~95-100% full, go full Las Vegas Jackpot and shower the screen in rainbows and showering gold particle effects while the words "BONER ALERT!" vibrate in neon at the top of the screen all while doing nothing to the game

This summer's food recalls are broader in scope, longer-lasting, and more severe than past years as regulators are slow to respond. The parasite surveillance staff at the CDC, which responds to outbreaks (such as cyclosporiasis), was downsized last year by DOGE from 11 people to three.

Turns out stoking the flames of fascism as a flamboyantly gay noncitizen doesn't work out long-term, cannot believe it

I submit this is the most important story of the day. In 2017, a sailor told the President that the old steam carrier catapults were better than the new electric ones, probably in the same way your elderly neighbor says carburetors were better than these new fangled fuel injectors.

President Trump has directed the Navy to tear out a complex system for launching jet fighters from its aircraft carriers and instead go back to using steam catapults. 🔗: on.wsj.com/4i2qDD6

I was about to say "Hold on, this isn't something general purpose AI can actually do except maybe for a few public domain books where the text is easily available online. Everything else will be a hallucination" and... well, at least they were ahead of me there.
