Ed update: HeroicWife still astounds, SmolDottir teaches us new things every day. My dear old mum is exiting slowly. My health hasn’t been magnificent but all in all I have very little to complain about. Oh, and the state of the games industry being what it is, I’m retraining as a podiatry nurse.

I could make a python script that extracts all the constants defining cat and attaches them randomly to a handful of buttons. I have no idea what this would look like but I'm confident it would be completely untamable chaos

This is just the maddest argument. These people would trap us in poverty to keep a decade old commitment, which no one ever actually made, to an electorate which no longer exists.

Exactly right. It's why the idea of "UK PLC" was so grotesque - as if a nation was just a limited company, that could be wound up, taken over, merged or dissolved, with no roots in the past and no responsibility to the future.

This is not a "you didn't KNOW?" post because I truly envy and respect anyone unaware of Linehan's output BUT he's been EXTREMELY racist for years now. I took this after walking the bridge during the No Kings protest back in March. The patina on the bronze is regal, speaks to their history, dedicated in '51. The original estimate for this gaudy gilding was $2.4m. It actually cost $5.1m in a no-bid contract.

Trump and Musk have given the best reason why not to buy American. Customers - governmental and private alike - around the globe will take note of this and act accordingly, and I wouldn't be surprised if this won't be limited to US military products only. Alternatives are now national security!

The recent Starlink / Starshield incident in Ukraine has created a dangerous precedence for the US export industry, many haven't yet grasped. The sudden deactivation respectively curtailing of those systems without warning not only cost precious lives, but also equipment worth millions.

The New Racism is just as serious in its potential impact as the old, but it is far, far, far, FAR more stupid. 'The calibre of racist has gone sharply downhill' sounds like it should be the start of a joke, but it is also: just demonstrably true!

A weird change that has taken place in my lifetime is that in the past, British racists were aware of what mixed-race people were and were furious about it, as opposed to the New Racism, which frequently seems actively confused by the birds and the bees.

The first shipment of Russian diesel is on its way to The United States. Trump is giving the Russians billions of dollars and lifting sanctions on Russia. This is stupid and will probably just make diesel prices more expensive for Americans.
